If this doesn't take the cake I don't know what will. We have the Government and Mainstreammedia constanstly harping onw what's good and not good for us, and yet we have occurrences like this going on. (Not to mention the expense this Nightclub will attempt to create for the people) I say the Nightclub if it goes through with this they should be prosecuted for participating in fraudulant practice and made to pay back anymoney that the food stamp participants spend and as for the food stamp participants, they should be thoroughly investigated to see if theyare even qualifid and if they weren't then restitution time for them as well. (I actually don't mind the fast food ideas, if you're homeless where would you cook the food you get from the stores, but a nightclub party, ridiculous.

A nightclub in Montgomery, Ala. is raising eyebrows by hosting a “Food Stamp Friday” party on April 6 that seems to glamorize life on the federal government’s food assistance program. An invitation for the April 6 party obtained by The Daily Caller tells patrons of the Rose Supper Club in North Montgomery that the Friday night cover charge will be just $5 if a “food stamp card” is shown upon arrival.

What's the usual cover charge? $6 ?

There are so many jokes in this story, it isn't funny.

I think the media is and places like this nightclub are just playing on the openly absurd. This whole debate over using a benefits card at one business but not another next door all because of the nature of one vs. the other is silly. I couldn't agree more about accountability and control of our national benefits programs, but lets stop micromanaging people to death and calling it a mission accomplished. Simply driving people insane with nanny state meddling isn't exactly a solution.

Some segments of the nation have shot this down like a missile into the Hindenburg, but I've never seen the problem with simply requiring work for those taking benefits. There is a lot of litter out there to be picked up..and if I hear my city say they don't have money to solve a problem that is almost entirely a manpower issue to work on I'll scream. We have almost 50 million Americans on Food Stamps, and those not working can help support those gaps the citys are constantly crying about.

Two birds with one stone and it doesn't require Uncle Sammy becoming Uncle Naggy. Enough with that...

Cover charges for night clubs are usually five to ten times that much. Sounds to me like they're trying to give the poor a break as a gimmick.

So the cover charges in Alabama are 25 to 50 dollars? Maybe in NYC or the like, but not in Montgomery, AL.

Exaggerate much?

The usual coverage is probably $10. The type of people it is obviously attracting gives off that information.

You may call my statement hateful but I assure you no high class club would have a foodstamp friday's.

They aren't using

foodstamps at the BAR,

they made a flyer that LOOKed

I know of crappy little dive bars that routinely charge 8 or 10 in South Carolina from personal experience. It's a pretty comparable cost of living to most of Alabama, so I have no doubt that a middle of the road club would cost 20 or 30 to get in. If it's an upper scale one, then I could see 40 to 50.

I'm also from alabama and there is very nice bars with all of the pretty little college girls and "rich kids" and the cover charge is $5. Now there is a pretty strict dress code to keep gangs out, sloppyness out, and other things. For instance you can't just go in with gym shorts and a white tee. You also cant show up with a plain red T, it has to atleast have a logo.

There is no way this place was $5 AND a free shot with a foodstamp card if the actual entrance is 30ish dollars. All of these food stamp people wouldnt be able to go..

You are correct that the OP didn't read his own article, but still the whole idea of it is bs. It's a party celebrating the fact they have foodstamps. Like foodstamp pride or something. Early would would it "one of them money checks :]"

You know some of these people with the foodstamp cards are going to feel like real "gangstas" because they got in for half price and got to drink that shot and try to act cool about it.

Very depressing.

Now nothing I wrote was to offend anyone on food stamps, just the ones that know they can get it so why try kinda mindset.

I collect food stamps. I believed in the American dream at one time. I had a good paying job and brand new truck and my own appartment. Until my job was shipped over sea's so some ceo could increase his bottom line. I lost everything I had.

Now If I want a job I have to work at Walmart for half of what I use to make. With the cost of auto insurace gas and car repairs on an old clunker. 3/4 of my pay would go just to get to work. If I'm going to work for nothing I might as well sit on my rear and do nothing.

Up yours America!

This is the kind of activity going on while us WORKING STIFFS work our lives away. All the TAXES being forced out of my paycheck to fund their PARTYING and FREE-RIDE.

Not talking about the ones who GENUINELY are in need of food stamps. Talking about the ones who dont even THINK about EVER pulling their own weight in life. Such degenerate scammers make it VERY bad for those who temporarily DO need these benefits.

Some are having a HELLUVA great time every night while I have to go to bed early every night and work tons of overtime everyday to contribute to their life of PARTYING and good times seeing nice 'booty' at the clubs and wearing 'phat' clothes and lots of 'bling-bling'.

Why the HELL am I even working??

One of the artists performing..Deuce Komradz..
Well, I was going to post a video with one of his songs. However, well, I would have been post banned on sight had I done so. On the cover of this particular songs were 4 or so guys around a tricked out suv, one holding a baseball bat.
This is so going to be bad

Edited to add this: Here is more on Deuce Komradz courtesy of urban dictionary

The Gump 53 up, 10 down Montgomery, Alabama. a word made popular by the rap group Deuce Komradz "State Trooper tailin' me but he know who I be, escortin' me back to tha G-U-M-P".."The Gump, there you have it" ..

In terms of crime: west and nawf side gonna shoot it out all day long, south side does them drive-by's, and the east side is most likely where you will get robbed. Agreed...

...however it begs another question. The food stamps are a supplement intended to help support those of lower income. No problem. They can't use the food stamps on alcohol at the bar but that means they are spending their cash at the bar...the little cash they have in the first place which qualifies them for food stamps.

There is nothing better to spend that cash on? The food stamps in this case amount to an alcohol subsidy reinforcing stupid behavior of the individual. With that being said, I cannot fault the bar for anything more than questionable advertising. The patrons taking advantage of the $5 special cover, well...

Per my interpretation..
The Food Stamp cards were not for payment of services, rather, a supplementary means of identification.
