I believe that you are correct. The title definitely says "the last orang-utans get killed" . Unless my grip on the English language is failing me, that would indicate that the species is extinct.

It is obviously not true that they are extinct. They still exist in the wild, and even if they didn't, there are still captive ones alive.

Not extinct.

OP title is not true.

As to whether the thread should be closed, that is up to a mod.

Ok, you the title *might* be slightly exaggerated, but it is no worse that the thousands of doomsday-threads that state that a meteorite, comet, WWIII will strike the earth within the next week, or month .......

There has been plenty of environmental destruction accomplished by systems other than capitalism.

You should read at least a few of the linked
Articles before you start to write something
so ignorant!

The Fires are massive and ongoing,
when there is not a Miracle happening soon
the last Ones getting killed at the end of this Year
and this is more than sad, it's a Crime
and a Genocide!

The equivalent in an asteroid thread would be to say that it has already struck the Earth.

The title says the extinction has already occurred. Not an exaggeration, but a falsehood.

The OP title is a falsehood. If disagreeing with that makes me the crazy one, then call me stark raving mad.

Deny ignorance indeed!

That's a bit backwards. Greed is the root of all corruption, capitalism is just the clothes greed is wearing while it destroys the orangutans.

if this thread gets closed down and not those countless other BS idiotic thread i might actually just stop coming here.
The fact that you came to this thread and are more concern about a title then the subject at hand makes me feel sick and sad.
learn to pick your battles is the advice i give you.

EDIT: just to add to the OP don't let him or others get you down, or bog down your thread over childish arguments.

Numbers of posts are what have the power of getting a thread recognition. If I was like the OP, I would state that I have made 90% of the posts on this thread!

Just in case you didn't see my first post on this thread, here it is:

I'm ready to get flamed. I understand the urgency, but just where does it say that " The last Orang-Utans get
killed "? IOW, I find the OP title misleading.

Some people care about the truth, I can see that you don't. I have been blamed for not caring about the orangutans, and nothing could be further from the truth.

Here is what is really important for any of you that think that I am doing something wrong.... Please alert a mod if you think I am breaking the T&C's of this site!

I'm sticking by what i said, learn to pick your battles. If you had a problem with the thread name report it. If you did and the thread is still here then i guess they saw the bigger picture of how governments are practically supporting the extinction of a species.

I didn't report it, I have nothing against orangutans, and I take offense to your and others assertions that I don't care enough about them.

I read your advice about 'picking my battles' twice now. If you want to repeat it a few more times, feel free, but if you believe that I don't care enough about the orangutans, what possible reason could I have to value your advice?

The OP title is false and when I point that out, I am told to 'deny ignorance'?

This place has went downhill since I joined.

listen i get what your saying but honestly i don't get why you do not make a thread and complain at how the rules on thread names aren't enforced enough(because yeah every other thread has a over exaggerated title)
Its not like i can change the title only the mods can.

@ Real Spoke,

thank you very much for the Videos,
Pictures saying much more than a Wall of Text,
thank you also for bringing this Thread back Ontopic,
some People are really, really deathly cold
and i was really thinking about to delete this Thread,
spec. after the Moderation changed the Title without even contacting me,
when hundreds of this People are killed in the first Weeks of this Fires
and we need to wait until the middle of the Cold Season (January) we can calculate
that not many staying alive and the Wood People who stayed alive
are maybe not fit to reproduce!

When we exchange the 6.600 Orang-Utans (100% of the Woodpeople, there are not more left)
to 7 Billion Humans (100%)
and a few hundred of the Utans are killed,
let's take a small Number of 330 (5%)
this would be at least 350.000.000 People
and as i said we are just in the beginning of the burning Season
we would see in the next 9 Month the death of at least/ minimum
2,1 Billion Humanoids (30%)
and this is a Extinction Level Event!!!

This are small Numbers, the Reality could be much, much worse!

Please be active and call at least the Indonesian Embassy,
show and articulate your Anger and Frustration about the Corruption
in Indonesia, call also the People who are behind this Fires (The Wiki-Article)
They are exactly the People who create a bad, bad World!

The Company is:

Jardine Matheson Holdings

And you can contact them via their Web-Site:

Fires in Indonesian swamp forest may have killed a third of rare orangutan population there

Fires raging in an Indonesian swamp forest may have killed a third of the rare Sumatran orangutans living there and all of them may be lost this year, conservationists warned Wednesday.

The Tripa swamp forest in Aceh province is home to the world’s densest population of critically endangered Sumatran orangutans. About 200 still live there, out of a world population estimated at 6,600, the conservationists said.

Cloud-free images from December show only 12,267 hectares (30,311 acres) of Tripa’s original 60,000 hectares (148,260 acres) of forest remains, said Graham Usher of the Foundation of a Sustainable Ecosystem.
---
“If there is a prolonged drought and the fire continues ... then orangutans, tigers and sun bears within it will disappear will be exterminated before the end of 2012,” he told a news conference, held by the Coalition to Save Tripa, which includes Greenpeace.

The number of orangutans killed in recent months must be at least approaching 100 or if not even more, the groups estimated, while about 100 others perished between 2009 and 2011 either killed in the conversion process or due to starvation and malnutrition.

Op-Ed: Outrage as palm oil companies exterminate hundreds of orang-utans

And the land grab means the creatures may have only weeks or a few months, before disappearing forever. The fires are the latest move in a sickening and gut-wrenching war waged on orang-utans by palm oil companies over land in northern Indonesia, says the UK's Daily Mail.

Hundreds of the arboreal great apes, recognized by their reddish-brown hair and uniquely expressive faces, may have perished in the fires allegedly started by palm oil companies in the Tripa forest on the coast of Aceh province.

It is one of the largest remaining populations of wild orangutans in the world. More devastating, are the reported claims of palm oil employees forcing fleeing orang-utans back into the burning forest, to their deaths.
---
"It is no longer several years away, but just a few months or even weeks before this iconic creature disappears." A few months or weeks. Where is the global outrage? Where is the government of Indonesia?

The latter is best answered by the state of Indonesia's rain forests. Once boasting 160 million hectares in the 1950s, just 48 million hectares remain. A devastating loss for native orang-utans, currently found only in the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra. Yet palm oil is the principle ingredient found in approximately half of all packaged goods sold on grocery store shelves. It is used in cookies, breakfast cereals, cosmetics, soaps and detergents.

Our desire for such products is one of the sole reasons Indonesia's forests are disappearing. And greedy palm oil companies will satisfy this desire, no matter the cost.
