Predator is a unique machine vision algorithm developed by student Zdenek Kalal for his PhD thesis at the University of Surrey in the UK. Having worked on machine vision software myself I know how good this system is. Best of all you can download the source but unfortunately it requires MatLab

The algorithm is surprisingly simple and performs extremely well. I guess this guy has a bright future.

The video shows Predator performing a variety of difficult machine vision tasks tracking objects rotated in 3 dimensions and at different scales.

Of course the algorithm is being commercialised by his company TLD Vision tldvision.com...

Can anyone think of a innovative use for this?

Well, you can already guess what this is going to be used for.

Pretty impressive though.

Oh yeah. I can see this being implemented in new weapons systems whether it be smart missiles, smart bombs or smart bullets.
Could you imagine having this type of tracking system on your sniper scope with computer augmentation?
