Why be a Mod?

Oh, I shouldn't...but I must ask a silly question. Have any MODS found that special person, that all elusive love connection, while being a MOD?

Haha, i'm pretty sure MODs also follow the "no relationships in workplace" attitude. It can only lead to bad ending.

I've met a Lot of Great Folks, both here on the boards as well as 'behind the scenes', so to speak.

Nearing 7 years later and I wouldn't trade it for Anything. - like family.

Well, we do get along (usually), but as with any group of about 70 people, you're going to have long debates about everything. Staff is like a box of chocolates... you never know what you're going to get until you bite into one of them.

I get to be a part of the best staff on the internet. Forge life long friendships with other moderators and the owners/admin. As well as get a first hand taste of what it is to help run this wonderful place.

Being mod is nothing more than being a member, the only difference is that we are entrusted with tools that allow us to moderate the boards and make sure that everybody is conforming to the Terms & Conditions.

Do you get paid or get any freebies for your time and effort?

Nah we save all that stuff for our annual sacrifice of to be banned members...

But no, we do this for free, because we love this place.

Do you enjoy being a mod?

Yes I do love it. It's tough some days dealing with the ins and outs of T&C infractions and members that are less than cordial, but mostly the interactions with members are always enjoyable.

Are there any drawbacks to being a mod?

As stated above, there are bad days. They never outweight the good ones. I think the biggest drawback IMO is having your opinion somehow looked at differently because of mod status. But that's easily handled and not such a big deal..

as for being the 'yarn' and all..

I consider each and every a filament part of the fabric, which when loomed together, makes ATS the overall mish mash of 'like kind' minds it would seem. - Interested Individuals. (?)

I love this site, and I have thoroughly enjoyed this thread OP. It was great to read comments from some of the Mods I have seen their names, but have not run across them, or only seen the after effects of their work, scorched earth

It is clear how much you love the site and each other, ATS has a great heart, I see it from the Mods,Owners and the Members 99% of the time I spend on here. The other 1% and some days 100% I am laughing so hard I am crying.

As a 'familial unit' we'd likely rank but a mere notch or two above dysfunctional ... .. but, on the whole, we do strive to do our level best to be as straight forward, upfront and even-keeled as possible - no one's perfect

... no matter those who might claim to know or speak to otherwise ....

Simply cos this is such a great thread and apart from that little bit in the middle I think its great that the mods and members of ATS can interact in such a light hearted way.This is what I love about this site and it just goes to show everyone here (more or less) is really human after all. It has also given me an insightin the behind the scenes workings of ATS, which I find interesting as one of my favourite members here happens to actually be a mod (please take a bow Asktheanimals).

Also I've heard a few rumours and was just seeking a little clarification. Is it true that mods are only chosen from those select few who actually give reasons for editing a post?
