and we wear different shoes.

What do you mean, different shoes to what masons wear, or different shoes on each foot, like a winklepicker on the left foot and a flip flop on the right.
...please let it be the latter.

-So mods what do you get out of being a moderator on ATS?
A great sense of pride in the success of ATS.

-Are there any perks too being a mod?
The abillity applaud well composed member contributions is definitely a perk.
.
-Do you get paid or get any freebies for your time and effort?
Nothing of fungible value, no. It is a lot of fun, however, and that fun translates into relaxing downtime, which is definitely a form of payment in an otherwise hectic world.

-Do you enjoy being a mod?
Most definitely!

-Are there any drawbacks to being a mod?
Certainly. The primary one is that, contrary to what some members may believe and say, you basically leave your partisanship at the door when you become a mod. Of course we each have our own political opinions and positions, but in the grand scheme of things, everything we do is done with respect to the T&C policy, not our partisan leanings. It is somewhat humorous to find, on the same day, one thread discussing how "liberal/socialist" the Staff is and another thread discussing how "Conservative/neocon/fascist" we are. Definitely a statement on how individual perception often trumps logic and reality.

Says the member who stated:

I think what you mods need to do is state the exact T&c reasons a post is taken off.

They shouldn't be closing threads because something is similar

No... you're right. Shoes are not why we are mods, even though I always moderate in mocassins. They're so much more comfortable. I can't stand wearing shoes in the house, and, in the summer, when it's hot in igloo country, I go barefoot. Su-weet.

I'm a Canadian, so the CSIS is our CIA, but, I'll be darned if I've ever seen a paycheck from them.

Would be nice, though.

Can I call myself an Internet Spook?

trade secret

the worst thing about being a mod is that we can't always post what we want.

That knowledge is hidden from us mortal members. No doubt being privy to such information is one of the 'rewards' of being a mod. The rest of us must carry on smilingly tapping out posts as though nothing has happened because if you express even the smallest amount of curiosity then you're walking on thin ice.

It must be strange for the mods trying to exist as normal members on ATS. They either get vitriolic, resentful replies to their posts or the chief apple-shiners come out to stroke their egos.

The positions of 'mod' and 'member' are mutually exclusive. One cannot be viewed as both, surely?

I post as a member as much as possible. Most mods do, and, as a matter of fact, a few of us are really good at it. The mod/member dichotomy isn't easy though... I'll admit that.

A complaint can be filed against a moderator too, you know. Anyways, since you're out of this (supposedly) biased thread, I wish you well in all future endeavors.

(((HUGS)))

Ask yourself, is it even possible to be "Off Topic" in a thread in the "OFF TOPIC" Forum?

So then how did I get an off topic warning? Abuse of power? This is off topic as I may add. So you put yourself deeper into hipocracy. But I will be laughing when people like you apply for a job at my place of business.

So mods what do you get out of being a moderator on ATS?

I get helping to run a place I genuinely love and have a passion for.

Are there any perks too being a mod?.

Yes. I was allowed to pitch my idea to promote the site via a weekly internet radio show using unproven technology to the owners, they trusted me with the use of their Site Name behind it and allowed me to try it, we proved it worked and we are now on Internet, AM and Satellite every Saturday night with a potential AM Tune in audience of millions.

In doing so have interviewd the likes of Travis Walton and Stanton Friedman - and other outstanding guests - and connected with people all over the world.

I'd say thats a fairly cool perk. Potentially we have more listeners to the Saturday show than some of the major radio stations in the UK draw in on a daily basis.

Do you get paid or get any freebies for your time and effort?

Nope.

Do you enjoy being a mod?

In the main, yes I do, but sometimes its sad to see peoples ego's get the better of them. It happens far too often.

Are there any drawbacks to being a mod?

Yep. Some people think you shouldn't have an opinion on subjects and if you display one they will automatically accuse you of bias, or allege you are undermining or censoring a subject. Happens a lot and it sucks.

Also does your ATS page set up look different to us normal members, just like non members ATS page looks different to a members page set up.

I would imagine mine looks worse. I keep messing up the MYATS and losing my subscribed threads in fits of trying to keep up with things and topics for the show. Not brilliant
