"Researchers discovered that at least 100 of the ''super-Earths'' may be on our galactic doorstep, at distances of less than 30 light years, or about 180 trillion miles, from the sun. "

So we live 100 trillion miles away from the sun? HA

That's crazy when you consider the milky way is one galaxy among billions.

Have you ever seen a live dinosaur or a live elephant bird? Did they exist? would you think they were possible if someone had never researched them? I saw big bones sticking out of rocks on my farm when I was a kid. I asked my father what kind of animal they were from and he told me really big ones. They were probablysome dinosaur bones brought here from somewhere by the glacier. I see the possibility of other life forms existing from a lifetime of awareness. Maybe you need proof to know things really exist but I see a need to study things to see if they exist. I am not accepting the lack of insight and restrictions of learning that this present world has to offer. I will study all the research and untranslated evidence myself if I can get access to it. I hate the limits imposed by others perceptions of evidence.

Amazing, simply amazing.

It is so naive to say we are alone in this Universe.

I remember reading somewhere that it is thought that for every grain of sand that exists on planet earth, around about 1,000,000 stars exist. I don't know if that is true, but cerrtainly the number of stars out there is immense.

To imagine that we are the only life in the universe with such huge numbers of stars is somewhat unreasonable.

I wouldn't say unreasonable I would say completely illogical lol.

No, I have not, unless you include crocodiles and alligators to be dinosaurs. I've never heard of an elephant bird. Does it fly with its ears, like dumbo?

Sure, having evidence that something exists does help. You made a positive claim that life can develop in other ways that we haven't seen on earth, and all I am asking is how you know this? I think that it is a possibility, but I don't know for sure as you do, since it has never been observed as far as I know.

One step closer to disclosure.

I had to sorry.

I always knew how amazing the universe was without anyone telling me, so all I can is: Truly amazing.

Wow... 160 billion red dwarf stars in the milky way? I'm sure there will be a way to get to one of them eventually that we haven't officially discovered yet. I think one of the most important things for the human race is to expand into space.

Whats so exciting about going to other habitable planets and destroying their environment too. Let alone neither you nor me or our great great grandchildren will ever get there. It would take tens of thousands of years with our current technology.

I never thought environmentalists could be so annoying and short-sighted as to prevent us from colonizing other planets.

There has to be always someone that says this cliche.... I mean even my grandma says it. If you can't post anything more productive DONT USE IT!
we live in an almost infinite universe... just like us there must be trillions or even more planets... DUH! Ofcourse we aint alone...
jeez...

ps. I know its a rant but had to take it out of my system.

1 has to wonder how long have these planets REALLY been known about? Interesting OP.

Use your logic. Different environment = different evolution of beings.

Elephant bird, google it. Maybe some still exist somewhere, we haven't been everywhere on this planet yet. The same spots keep getting avoided.

Other than religious nut jobs, you would be hard pressed to find anyone who says we are alone in the universe, but there is a massive difference between acknowledging that and thinking we are being 'visited'. The size of the galaxy and universe work in favor of there being life, plentiful forms of simple life, complex life being rare and intelligent life even rarer....but that also works against us ever coming in to contact with it, you have to remember the timescales involved as well. Humans have only been around for 150,000 years or so, that is an insignificant amount of time.

You beat me to it, Scripter.

I was going to say there are very, very few educated people who think we are alone in the universe. Even many religious people feel that God may have created other life just like "he" created life here on earth (if they are of the mindset to believe in a supreme creator). As you said, only a few overly-religious "zealots" would probably say we are alone in the universe.

I would think the percentage of scientists working in the field of space science today who believes life probably exists elsewhere is up around 100% (I suppose the chance of there being religious zealots working in the space science field could keep that number from being 100%).

Heck, I would even say virtually all NASA scientists believe in the probability of life elsewhere. I know, for example, that Chris McKay, who is one of NASA's leading astrobiologists, believes life exists elsewhere.

As to whether or not that life has or is visiting the Earth? Well, that's a different question altogether.

wow; just wow

and there are gazillions galaxies in our universe alone; then there's the multiverse theory; then there's other dimensions...

sure...we're all alone and very special...NOT

consider the major advances in eco friendly futuristic technolgy. there are high performance electrical cars that can go for 400km on a ten minute charge. we have invented laminated timber. a material that could soon replace steel in construstion alltogether. imagine a wooden sydney harbor bridge or a wooden brookland bridge. Think of the inovations in solar technology and wind power. think of the water saving systems we put in place on our homes. think of all those things and tell ats again that humanity will destroy other planets when they get to them. get your head out of avatar and just look at the work being done to repair the damage done. why cut down rainforest when the number of plantation forrests grow by the day. I dare you to post that exact same message again. everyone just look around you at the effort of hard working men and women slaving away in laboritories for mankind. they are the real heros. because they will cure most known diseases and launch us into space. for us. for everyone.

also that knews is awesome. something out there must be sentient. hopfully peaceful too
