Not exactly mind reading. It's talking about detecting the presence (or absence) of certain brain patterns.
As far as controlling the aircraft, it's more along the lines of developing a skill. Instead of a physical skill, it's a mental skill. You train your
brain to produce specific patterns (the same why you train your body to move in a complex way). Those patterns are recognized to mean "right rudder".
I don't see the advantage.
