Democrat Rep pulled from House floor for Trayvon hoodie

A U.S. House of Representatives member was
"removed" from the House floor and lost his right to speak
because he was wearing sunglasses and a hoodie
in honor of Trayvon Martin !!

The member was shouting Bible passages as the Speaker was "speaking"

I admire his "dedication" and feistiness just the same.

Well it's actually not a surprise considering who it was !!

March 28, 2012 10:59am -- The Washington Examiner

Rep. Bobby Rush, D-Ill., lost his right to speak on the House floor after he violated rules by putting on a hoodie and sunglasses in honor of Trayvon Martin, the Florida teen shot last month.

"May God bless Trayvon Martin's soul, his family and -- [inaudible]" Rush said as he was removed from the House floor this morning for wearing a hoodie.

Rush was wearing a grey hoodie under his suit jacket. He took off his jacket, pulled the hood over his head and put on sunglasses while saying "racial profiling has to stop, Mr. Speaker. Just because someone wears a hoodie does not make them a hoodlum," he said.

"The member will suspend," said a visibly frustrated Rep. Gregg Harper, R-Miss., the speaker pro tempore administrating the morning session. "The member is no longer recognized. The chair will ask the sergeant-at-arms to enforce the rules on decorum."...

"Rush" to Judgement ?

Bobby Rush

Bobby Lee Rush (born November 23, 1946) is the U.S. Representative for Illinois's 1st congressional district, serving since 1993. He is a member of the Democratic Party.

The district is located principally on the South Side of Chicago. It is a minority-majority district and has a higher percentage of African Americans (65%) than any other congressional district in the nation. Rush has the distinction of being the only person to defeat President Barack Obama in an election for public office, when Obama challenged him in a primary election in 2000.[1] Rush is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus...

Early life, education, and political activism

After dropping out of high school, Rush joined the U.S. Army in 1963 but went AWOL and received an honorable discharge in 1968.[2] Throughout the 1960s Rush was involved in the civil-rights movement. He worked in civil-disobedience campaigns in the South, and co-founded the Illinois chapter of the Black Panthers in 1968 and was made its "defense minister". His son, Huey, was named after Panther leader Huey Newton. "We were reacting to police brutality, to the historical relationship between African-Americans and recalcitrant racist whites," Rush later told People magazine. "We needed to arm ourselves." Rush was present when fellow Black Panther Fred Hampton was killed in a police raid and later made a official statement that the police, referred only to as "pigs" by Rush, had murdered Hampton. Rush's own apartment was raided in December 1969 where police discovered an unregistered pistol, rifle, shotgun and pistol ammunition, training manuals on explosives and booby traps, a small amount of marijuana and an assortment of communist literature.[3] Earlier that same year Rush stated the philosophy his membership in the Black Panthers saying, "Black people have been on the defensive for all these years. The trend now is not to wait to be attacked. We advocate offensive violence against the power structure."[4]

Imprisoned for six months in 1972 on a weapons charge after carrying a gun into a police station, Rush nonetheless worked on several non-violent projects that built support for the Black Panthers in African American communities. He coordinated a medical clinic that offered sickle-cell anemia testing on an unprecedented scale. Rush graduated with honors from Chicago's Roosevelt University in 1973. A year later he left the Panthers, who were already in decline. "We started glorifying thuggery and drugs," he told People. That was distasteful to the deeply religious Rush, who is a born-again Christian. He went on to say that "I don't repudiate any of my involvement in the Panther party—it was part of my maturing."[5] He subsequently resumed his education in the early 1990s at the McCormick Seminary and received a master's degree in theology.

After leaving the Panther Party, Rush sold insurance for a time in the early 1970s.

Rush's "donning of the hood" violated clause five of House Rule 15 against wearing hats on the House floor.

I've never seen someone get so bent out of shape over a dress code.

Rock on Bobby Rush...good job.

I am hopeing the racial profiling issue does not interfere with the actual core case of self defense V murder.

the zim dude did racial profile, no doubt...but that doesn't mean he also murdered...it very well could have been self defense, but if the two start intermingling in the publics mind, then the trial won't be fair.

Congress does need to remain neutral on this issue so not to further provoke the public and blur the issues.

Government isn't supposed to remain neutral - representatives should represent their constituents.

But I think this was a political move more than anything.

Bobby Rush is black, never mind Zimmerman was defending himself, he killed a black man; and that is the point.

This idiot, RUSH, is obviously making a racial statement, and he should resign.

Go join the hood rats, he is obviously not mentally capable of holding a leadership position.

Representatives should practice reservation.

All this Trayvon talk is becoming rather annoying (25+/- new threads a day about it). What makes this death so special?

Next thing you'll see on the calander is "Trayvon Martin Day" with a mandatory 66.6 seconds of silence at the 11th hour... lolz ...-plus-Can you see TPTB right now? ...sitting there laughing as the people rip each other up by themselves. They probably had something up their sleeve to get a situation like this rolling, but now they don't have to. Divide and conquer.

Again, what is so special about this death?

This whole Trayvon Martin case is going to become a LONG talk about gun control. CNN is already trying to throw everything in the case aside and just talk about gun control.

If anyone thinks the Treyvon Martin affair is about gun control or the removal of the 2nd Amendment, or even fear backlash by anti-gun lobbyists, then they must be out of their mind.

The 2nd Amendment is here to stay. There is nothing that can change that fact without shedding of more blood, massive outcry and a divided nation. It is NEVER guns that kill. It is only persons behind those guns that will kill.

Abolish guns and next you will have to abolish knives and even stones, if ending violence is the reason to ban guns. Life is complex and if one thinks a simple authoritarian or totalitarian ban is the answer, then he is nothing more than a naive idiot.

No. It is not about banning guns. Rather, the emphasis should be to teach and ensure gun owners take and practice responsiblities of owning guns. Owning or carrying a gun is a power over another who does not own or carry guns. WIth power comes responsibilities.

The indiscriminate horrendous murder of young Tray is a case of irresponsible use of gun as well as insane laws and legislations that allowed the murderer to walk free, and needs to be reviewed by society as a whole in order to prevent further such tragic and unjustifiable senseless incidents from occuring again.

You're right.

Proponents of gun control have been chomping at the bit to get some mainstream recognition since becoming largely irrelevant post-Clinton.

They've failed to capitalize off of plenty of incidents from school shootings, gang crime, Giffords being shot and even walking firearms across to Mexico to be used on American citizens and many are pushing Obama to make good on his gun-control campaign promises worried he wont get another term to accomplish anything.

Here we have a scenario that has very little real behind it. For the level of perceived outrage that we have been bombarded with 24/7 over this you'd swear it was the return of Christ himself being struck down by Satan almighty when the reality is there is nothing of any note here whatsoever.

It's a blank slate of sorts for gun control proponents to warp and shift anyway they see fit. Ramp up the emotional factor with junior high photos and race related hyperbole. Bring in celebrities and other children in protests. Stand the parents up in front of congress.

All of it is absurd theatrics designed to capture the minds of the masses in illusion and hysteria.

Clintons AWB was built on fantasy and lies. So will the next one be.

I don't usually give props to Democrats. But Rush stood up to THE MAN in the sixties and seventies and worked hard according to his convictions to do what he thought was right for his community.

People come on here and talk big about how bad the police are. Rush and the Black Panthers went to WAR with them over it. How many here would have the backbone to do the same?

So Martin forced Zimmerman to confront him?

I mean really

If I started a fight with you, you started kicking my ass and then I shot you, who is
at fault?

Clint Eastwood would disagree with you

Wow, that guys lucky he doesn't have gold teeth, drug paraphernalia, tattoos, and a #NO_LIMIT_NIGGA attitude or he might have been shot...especially if he assaulted an armed man and went for his gun.
