I thought I'd jump in on all the race hoopla.

This story is from 2008. Original Thread Here.

This incident was from Halloween when the boy was trick or treating with his family:

An ex-convict who thought he was being robbed gunned down a 12-year-old trick-or-treater, spraying nearly 30 rounds with an assault rifle from inside his home after hearing a knock on the door, police said Saturday. Quentin Patrick, 22, is accused of killing 12-year-old T.J. Darrisaw on Friday night. T.J.'s 9-year-old brother, Ahmadre Darrisaw, and their father, Freddie Grinnell, were injured but were released after being treated at a hospital.

Ouch.

Then we have this one:

Even in a neighborhood with rampant gang activity, where children are too often innocent victims of gunfire, what happened in South Chicago on Labor Day in 2008 was shocking and tragic.

Nequiel Fowler, excited that the next day she would start fourth grade, was struck and killed by an errant bullet as she bent over to tie the shoe of her blind 5-year-old sister.

These are the four that are responsible for the little girls death. She was killed in crossfire.

And what about this one?

Is it all about race?

It shouldn't be really. In each case an issue about race could be made but that's not really the point. Even if a murder or supposed self-defense is racially motivated, the stories following shouldn't be. It seems to increase the divide.

Not all cases get the same amount of attention, but the ones that can be sold do...

An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.
Mahatma Gandhi

Obviously this thread is directed towards the Treyvon issue that is in every newspaper and MSM outlet, and making waves on ATS. While the story has been presented with race as the underlying issue. How about people address the fact that kids think it's cool to be gangbangers.

No matter the color of their skin.

If you notice the crossfire case, there was only one black person involved and three others of different race.

Treyvon's twitter could not even be posted on ATS because it was a massive t&c violation, but it was pretty obvious the kid embraced the lifestyle, or the wanna be lifestyle. And in turn, his attitude and appearance set off alarms to someone that was watching their neighborhood.

I won't go past that point and talk about whether or not the events afterward were justified or not. Just like to point out that race isn't the problem here. The cultural divide between young and old, and the warped sense for young people to "prove" themselves by being badass is something that has made different generations fear each other.

Is that worthy of a news story?

I believe all crimes of violence commit-ed against your fellow humans are hate crime, to attach race to it is just an excuse or rationality to justify the inherent evilness of these crimes, it allows people to label them quantify it by turning it into something they can blame it on.

"Oh he was just racist"

as opposed to.

"Oh he was just human..."

No, no, no, it only counts if the shooter is white, or at least 1/8 white, and the victim in non white, then we can have a media circus about it followed by parroting posters who post the same thread over and over again.

Speaking of race wars, whatever happened to Battle Bots?

Oh well said.

Have we ever thought to ourselves why people are killing each other and what are the causes for it?

Edit to add: (Not the superficial causes)

Lets clarify one thing: rap music = negative rap music.

There can be positive rap music too. It is a style of singing/art after all, but of course the negative stuff doesn't resemble that much at all.

I believe it has something to do with lack of IQ.

And (negative) rap music is listened to by all kinds. Insecure people like the arrogant-aggressive lyrics because it makes them feel bigger about themselves? Is that it?

I have this friend, he is African American, he is from a broken home, his mom is a Teacher at a public school.

He listened to nothing but rap growing up, he is a fine well adjusted person with out a violent bone in his body...

My friends mom was a Hard ass on him growing up, raised him right.

Its called parenting, and more people arnt doing it, thats why we have problems, RAP has nothing to do with it.

Some rap is an outlet for confused and insecure people. That's not to say it shouldn't exist or it is raps fault for their actions. But it is telling how some people base themselves of popular culture trends.

The same could be said about Jersey Shore, Paris Hilton et all.

But these things aren't the problem. The problem is why people think imitating art, popular topics is good for them.

A symptom rather than a cause.

A symptom rather than a cause.

or forced manipulation...and somethings should be not allowed or hardly suppressed (compare it with child pornographie or if thats too hard - hardcore violence like in movies or games)...the commercialization and idolizing of criminals in modern rap music is waay beyond simple social problems...

Rap nowadays is hipster non-violent pop music for the most part.

The NWA days are over.

No. Most of them aren't. You're just spouting ignorance about a genre you know nothing about.

The video you posted the artist was a former correctional officer at a prison, no one takes him seriously. He's made fun of and called officer Ricky.

No, it really doesn't. You clearly haven't heard much "rap" nowadays. Please stop talking about something you know nothing about.

Being a thug is not cool anymore, being a "hipster" is.
