Stop panicking. You are way off with the usage of the word 'occupy'. Its all part of the strategic positioning by the allies should China be a concern in the future with the shipping ways that it wishes to control in the southeast asian oceans. The australian military will be involved too in the joint base operations. I'm sure the Autralian government isn't stupid either.

It also aims to comply with the ANZUS treaty that Australia has signed at some point in time in addition to avoiding costly expenditures for the australian Navy. The base operations will be partially supported by Aussie forces as well. Think about it this way that Australia doesn't have to spend the additional dollars to purchase new naval vessels for now. It also keeps China in check.

Unlike you, I welcome the increased nature of our American allies and the strengthening of our ties with them. $40 billion dollars is the total saving cost on defence PER YEAR that we save as a nation for having them as our allies. Not only is that a good reason for having closer ties to them, but seriously, it's America. We're practically a little America ourselves. What happens over there, happens over here about 10 years later. Get over it. They're our friends, and I like them.

I think I would prefer having the Usa with bases in Aussie than some other Foreign country, at least the Americans speak English spend freely and are a friendly lot who just happen to like Aussies,and I know if push comes to shove I would feel better going to bed at night knowing some one had my back, that is not going to cut and run when the chips are down, and yes Pine Gap has been there for over 50 years and to date has not been a problem for anyone in Aussie to my knowledge, I did see video one time of a object entering our atmosphere and it did a quick U turn when a laser beam shot at it from pine gap, so i know they have some pretty good gear there allready, I never hear any complaints when a American ship comes to Aussie for R & R and they drop a few million $ every where they go, so c'mon you Bloody Wingers you are starting to sound like a bunch of Poms

I do not see any military invasion for it to be occupied forcefully by the US military in Australia

Its definitely # 3 that is applicable where the Aussie Govt will receive money for it regardless of how significant or marginal the amount might be considered. But I can imagine the cost savings advantage for Aussie Military upto certain extent too.

Think of the huge sums of money that we save by having America as 'big brother' saves us (and Australasia).

And then when the USA pulls right back and does nothing while China and other aggressors go on the march, you will be complaining that the USA, a steadfast ally of Australia, was not there doing anything to help.


Here's a hint. The USA and Australia, and Canada and the UK etc, are all part of the same western alliance.
In other words, they WORK TOGETHER, JOINTLY. They have the same GOALS AND OBJECTIVES.
Their interests coincide with each other and over lap each other.

American Marines are going to be based in Australia near Darwin on a rotational basis. It will be part of their training deployments. They will be training with the Australian Defence Force.
Part of the Australian Defence Forces modernization plan is to basically evolve the Australian Army, or elements of it, into a Marine Expeditionary Unit/s.
What the heck do you think the giant Canberra LHD's are being built for?
Why do you think they are building new destroyers? To escort these giants around.
Why do you think the new submarines will be some of the most deadliest submarines in the world, with land attack capability. Australia will have the capability to hit thousands of kilometers away.

Australia is gearing up it's armed forces because everyone else in the region is doing the same.
Part of Australia's build up involves restationing Amerian soldiers from elsewhere, to Australia.

The Australian army base which will be expanded for American Marines, will basically become the fall back point from Guam, where there are thousands of US soldiers and other major assets.
If # hits the fan with China and war breaks out, they will fall back to Australia.

You should be damn happy that we will be getting that sort of attention. Because if war did break out, China will be heading south to Australia as quickly as they can to seize the vast amounts of resources buried in the Australian outback.

Having the brunt of the US military backing us up, is not a bad thing. It's actually a positive.

To be fair, it's entirely the fault of the US people and the Australian people. No one forced Australia to sign on to ANZUS or UKUSA. If you dislike them so much, you get off your ass and demand your government pull out of these agreements. It's your country's territory, after all. If you have problems with how it's being governed, you should deal with it. Or, you know, sit around blaming America for everything.
