I've been stopping by at least 3-4 times daily for a couple of years now to keep up with the latest news/ideas/trends, and I just want to say hi to all, and thanks for some great conversation starters in my miniscule corner of the world - usually my opening sallies amongst friends/strangers go down like a lead balloon, but there you go. Not everyone has an open mind around here in NZ.

I doubt I could add any erudite comments to many of the discussions I've so far witnessed, but would like to just register my appreciation for the outstanding thought and effort that some members on here have so obviously put into their posts. Naturally these discussions usually devolve into inane nit-picking and sniping from cover within a few pages (my quantum theory is bigger than yours type of stuff). Ho hum.

But still, fascinating nonetheless. I'm interested in everything mentioned on this site, have an open mind and believe less than 0.05% of anything I read.

As for me personally, well I live on a small island at the bottom of the world, don't like being cold, drink too much and like to write software - I fit all these things together by being glued to the net in a sleeping bag with a beer fridge at arm's length (it hit 32 degrees today so I ditched the sleeping bag briefly earlier) and gosh darn it, coding C# and VBA just goes better with a beer at hand when you work from home.

Aaand that's it..Owing to my proclivity for beer, I doubt any future comments will get past the Mods as I have a bad habit of internetting after a few ales and sometimes can get into hot water. Mea Culpa, and sometimes Maxima!

Regardless, best wishes to you all, and thanks!

A man after my own heart although my fridge is a few steps away rather than at arms length. As for being cold, Holland can be quite brutal on the unprotected epidermis in the winter but here and in the UK it is now apparently the warmest March since records started and there hasn't been much winter to speak of either thankfully. It's 14 degrees outside right now and my cat is loving it.

C#? I looked at it once, I think my brain melted. I'll leave the programming to people who understand such complicated and mystifying things.

Enjoy your stay and see you around.

My quantum theory has more strings than yours but it's a knotty mess and best left alone, it can get irritable.

Congratulations, you've joined the world's largest and civil alternative topics discussion community! We understand that with rules, policies and just the shear size of the website, it can be quite overwhelming. So we've created a presentation tour with just you in mind.

Welcome heavyrock

AboveTopSecret is much like a theme park with many, many rides, with that said...
Here's a few thoughts before getting onto any one of the 1000's of topical rides at Above Top Secret, also known as ATS, the world's largest Civil & Unique Discussion Community.

*** Please be at least this tall to get on any of the rides, (Johnny stretches his arm outward), and act like an 'civil' adult. This will save you a lot of future stress, frustration and possible action by one of your friendly neighborhood Mods!

*** Please remember that some members are very passionate and vocal depending on what ride your on. Before getting on a ride, you should be mentally fit, emotionally stable and have a strong stomach for theories, conjecture, research and evidence presented that may be contrary to your own.

*** Please be "open-minded" enough to understand that sometimes the ride isn't always what you might think or expect. At times, you may learn something new and 'out-of-the-box' before you get off the ride, this is a natural and normal phenomena.

*** Please note that at times the ride gets overly-heated and "it's strongly suggested" to get off the ride to regroup one's thoughts before continuing. This will also help guarantee that the ride will move forward without getting derailed or explode into a fiery trashbin.

*** Please have fun! Be aware if you act in an uncivil-like manner, use profanity, intentionally spread a hoax and/or get verbally abusive, you will be removed off the ride by a Moderator. This is for your safety, & also for those both young and old on the ride with you.

So buckle up, keep your arms within the ride's comfort zone, have fun and "Deny Ignorance"...!
