I hope it doesn't come to that, I really do. I would never want to take the life of another human being even if my own life, or the lives of my loved ones were in danger; but if the fight is brought to me I will. Well, that is not exactly true. Marriage is actually a religious establishment, not run by the state. The laws of unions are run by the States and they do get to choose how their States will allow or recognize unions between people. It is not a federal role. Civil Rights is actually taken care of in the Constitution, so therefore it is done. If Congress wants marriage rights in the Constitution that is fine, amend it.

Hey slick, guess what? I have a degree in broadcasting. I've worked in television and radio. I know FULL WELL what the fairness doctrine is.

It is an outdated policy (not law) that the FCC used to make sure both sides of an issue were given equal time. This was in the days of three networks. Nowadays there are so many cable channels and news outlets that all views are represented to the satisfaction of the FCC, so they canned it. Although, I'm not sure all views are fairly represented.

Representing the "left" you have CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, PBS, WB, NPR, Comedy Central, Bravo, HBO, MTV, et al, and talk jocks like Alan Colmes, Mike Malloy and a slew of others. Did I leave anyone out?

In the center you have Fox.

And representing the "right" you have Limbaugh, Hannity, Savage, Levin, some local jocks, and ZERO television networks.

And you liberals want to bring back the fairness doctrine? Why is that? You can't overcome public dissatisfaction even with the lopsided propaganda machine that you control? You want to "shut conservatives up" because yeah - that's "fair", right? You're all about fairness.

Don't even attempt to school me on the media or the Fairness Doctrine.

If a butterfly flaps its wings in Sudan and the oil supply there is somehow negatively affected by that, just about everyone the world over will feel it at the pump.

I said it earlier in the thread and I'll repeat it because it bears repeating: the responsibility for the cost of gas lies with the consumers. If we didn't use so much of it, it would cost less.

The Conservative’s bacon is safe to eat because some liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.

The Conservative takes his morning shower reaching for his shampoo;
His bottle is properly labeled with every ingredient and the amount of its contents because some liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained.

The Conservative dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath.
The air he breathes is clean because some tree- hugging liberal fought for laws to stop industries from polluting our air.

The Conservative begins his work day; he has a good job with excellent pay, medicals benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some liberal union members fought and died for these working standards

If The Conservative is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed he'll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some liberal didn't think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune.

It's noon time, The Conservative needs to make a Bank Deposit so he can pay some bills.
The Conservative’s deposit is federally insured by the FDIC because some liberal wanted to protect The Conservative’s money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the depression.

The Conservative has to pay his Fannie Mae underwritten Mortgage and his below market federal student loan because some stupid liberal decided that The Conservative and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his lifetime.

The Conservative is home from work, he plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive to dad's; his car is among the safest in the world because some liberal fought for car safety standards.

He arrives at his boyhood home. He was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers Home Administration because bankers didn't want to make rural loans.

The house didn't have electricity until some big government liberal stuck his nose where it didn't belong and demanded rural electrification. (Those rural Conservatives would still be sitting in the dark)

He is happy to see his dad who is now retired.
His dad lives on Social Security and his union pension because some liberal made sure he could take care of himself so The Conservative wouldn't have to.

After his visit with dad he gets back in his car for the ride home.

He turns on a radio talk show, the host keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good

(He doesn't tell The Conservative that his beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit The Conservative enjoys throughout his day).
The Conservative agrees,

"We don't need those big government liberals ruining our lives”.

No. Sorry, but no.

The Executive branch is a concession to the reality of the Fuhrer principle. As such, it doesn't deserve respect at all; quite the opposite. It is a necessary evil at best, and just plain evil at worst. America occasionally has had genuinely great men inhabiting the office, however it hasn't happened since JFK. I used to think Obama was charismatic, but then I realised that I was mistaking charisma for a veritable river of slime.


I've read constant moaning on ATS from those saying how disliked Obama is. How the entire country is against him. The fact is his national approval rating is comparable to (if not better than) what GWB's was toward the end of his first term in office.


ATS is largely a quasi-fascist (politely referred to with the euphemism of "conservative") community. The Republicans generally view their relationship with any Democratic President as a state of all-out war, simply because they're the Republicans and that's what they do. So yes, Obama will be complained about.


Want real change? Let's put an end to the electoral college and the two party system and reform campaign financing laws to even the field for everyone.


I agree with the first two ideas; I don't agree with the third. I would be happy to have a government whose sole literal purpose, was enforcement of the Sherman Act. As far as I am concerned, the only good corporation is a dead one.
