Woman's skull crushed by falling crucifix

"An elderly woman has died in Italy after being struck by a three-metre-tall metal crucifix, the Ansa news agency reported on Wednesday.

The accident took place in the southern town of Sant'Onofrio.

The victim, 67-year-old Maddalena Camillo was walking through the main square of the town when a monument positioned in the centre of the square fell over, smashing her skull.

Investigators believe the 100-year-old crucifix may have fallen as a result of work being carried out in preparation of a religious festival honouring the town's patron saint and scheduled to take place on Sunday.

Of all the possible ways to let god into your life, this is certainly the least subtle.

There are three ways to look at it:

1) She was a sinner and god was punishing her with iron and irony all at once.

2) She was a devout and faithful member of the church and her demise was at the hand of god and was quick and she didn't know what hit her.

3) Her luck ran out, and it was sheer chance that dictated the crucifix hit her skull at that moment.

At any rate, what a 'goth' way to go. Some of the high schoolers in black in this neighborhood could only dream of such a death.
