Why do so many people have an issue with the TSA?

First off, im Canadian, so perhaps I have a different mindset on the issue.

I personally like feeling safe when im on a plane, I like everyone being checked to make sure they dont have anything illegal on them.

I dont care if the person is young/old/has medical issues, etc. Everyone should be checked equally.

I dont see why people are attacking the TSA for making sure people are safe on their plane rides.

I see people doing their jobs to make sure innocent lives are not in danger.

Every time I fly, I opt out of the body scanner machines, and I receive a patdown. The TSA agents have never been anything but respectful and professional. No molestation by power-hungry thugs. I've also never seen anyone have a problem with them of the dozens of times I've flown since they've been around.

ATSers are rather paranoid, is all.

In case you missed the memo, terrorists are the only ones not patted down, at least the people we are supposed to think are terrorists.

Commercial airliners can apply whatever policies they see fit. It's a private industry, but it is also governed by federal regulations. The body scanners are an expensive solution to a problem that can be dealt with differently. Metal detectors and enforcing current policies for all passengers is the most obvious step. This may sound strange (esp. for Americans), but I think the way Russia handles the threat is more feasible and far less expensive. They use bomb-sniffing dogs...which to this day seem to be very effective and probably more so than body scanners.

In order for such a warrant to be considered reasonable, it must be supported by probable cause and be limited in scope according to specific information supplied by a person (usually a law enforcement officer) who has sworn by it and is therefore accountable to the issuing court

There is limited search abilities by police, if they witness suspicious activity. The TSA must assume everyone is suspicious.

If you give people something to gripe about, some always will.
Others go in looking for a fight because they are on a crusade and trying to make a point.

Ultimately though, they have no leg to stand on. The Contract of Carriage for an airline, which you agree to when you purchase your ticket, gives them the right to do any type of search they wish to you. You waive your rights as part of the contract between you and the airlines, to travel as their passenger.

The response to this is typically, “well I have to fly”, but the truth is flying is not a right, its a privilege. You are traveling as a guest of a company, and have agreed to their terms for that trip including the searches. Nobody forces you to fly, and its really not the airlines fault if you need to be somewhere in a big hurry (aka an emergency on your part, does not make an emergency on their part).

Others will gripe that they have to fly because of their job, but again, no one forced them to take a job that involved airline travel, and if they do not wish to comply with the airlines, they can get another job that does not require traveling, or they can take the company private jet . If their job forces them to fly, that is neither the airlines, nor the governments fault, and has no bearing on the two party contract you form with the airlines on receipt of your ticket.

What walk through the cancer causing, DNA stripping, perv scanners just to feel safe, i dont think so. You are missing the point of them, they are about conditioning you to accept ever more intrusive searches for control. Glad the EU has banned the things, do go and look up millimetre wave tech, it is not your friend.

Your Constitutional Right do not apply to a contract where you waived your rights to unreasonable search. You do this when you accept the Contract of Carriage of an airline, and purchase their tickets.

Its basically the same as ATS here. You agree to our Terms and Conditions because this is a private site, even though some of those conditions may limit some of your Constitutional Rights to things such as talking about anything you wish on this site. You agree because you want to be a member here, and you waive certain rights. If you do not wish to waive those rights, then you can choose to not be a member here.

Same thing with the airlines, see?

Here's a question to ask yourself, when was the last time the TSA actually 'thwarted' a terrorist attack?

Every time there is a "real" terrorist they always somehow get on the plane anyways. Christmas day bomber, underwear bomber, shoe bomber on and on. TSA is #ing useless in case you haven't noticed.

The porno radiation scanners have been proven USELESS but they still use them, not mention the people who passed the legislation for it own stakes in the companies making them. Have you seen the scanner images? You see EVERYTHING. It's a porno theater and they have been caught singling out beautiful woman for bodyscans ie. Miss America. Guarantee you TSA officers have pleasured themselves to these images, don't be naive. It's disgusting.

These people ARE NOT trained professionals. They have been caught over and over lying, saying that they don't grope children, that they don't go on the inside of the pants. LIES LIES LIES and they get caught every time and deny it or lie and say they won't do it anymore. They make you take off your shoes and walk around barefoot/socks in an area where 100,000 other people have just gone through, very unsanitary.

Like one of the above posters pointed out, a lot of countries seem to manage their security without subjecting people to hazardous radiation and complete slave indoctrination.

No you don't. You fly because its a convenience, and you accept certain rights being waived because of that convenience. You can take a bus, train, cab, car, horse, rent a private charter aircraft, or strap yourself to a flock of birds that happen to be going in the right direction, if you want...

I don't feel safer. The people who want to hurt a whole country usually have large funding and man power. They can pretty much hurt us any way they want. These jerks feeling everyone up and just being general asswipes to everybody doesn't help. If they maybe took some courses to treat people like the customers they are I would not mind them so much. Their attitudes and just lack of respect is not acceptable.

They have no courtesy, no professionalism beyond citing the rules like mindless morons.

They need to go. Not to mention the recruiting tactics. It's like they looked for the most sub human and vile people they could find. I don't get the attitude they have. It's like they are being bothered to do their job. They get negative because they act like jerks and they bring out the worse part of people. They in turn act like bigger jerks when people get fed up with their crap.

I see a bunch of people overreacting to being checked before going on an airplane.

Its really no different then entering some concerts/clubs when people get patted down to check for weapons.
