It is true that those who do not learn from history are destined to repeat it. Sadly, in America we
are a distracted society--education has been replaced by the extra-curricular. For the past two
decades learning has been cast aside in exchange for instant gratification. We have a
media-distracted generation who decry "...Hey man, I'm just keeping it real," as an excuse to
remain uninterested and uneducated.

As an agnostic I take solace in the American Christian heritage. I say that because it is our Christian
brethren who will be the last in the trenches standing against the coming NWO. It also should be
stated that many of these same people will be the first to fall under the NWO spell of protection.

I could type my thoughts for hours, but in essence what I have to say is that liberty takes work.
It is a scarce commodity that must be guarded jealously. When you see a patriot stand in opposition
to inroads to freedom, that man must be cheered and not mocked. A true patriot does not sit idly
by while his freedom is restricted. He does not take the lazy road and allow government to keep
him safe from all harm because he realizes that such action is a road to tyranny, and that if he
doesn't act now, and doesn't act selflessly, he will be passing on to his children a world where
choice is not an option, where freedom is only for the privileged few, where liberty's bell rings
hollow and dead.

You can water the tree of liberty with small doses of vigilance, or you can wait, relax, go along,
and let your children water it with their blood...

I want to address this point, of fear.

How did this work when it came time for President Obama to get
Obamacare passed into law?

In the months preceeding the passage of Obamacare, President Obama made the rounds,
and in his speech he conveyed these things to promote fear.

Americans should be very afraid of the day when they

Fear #1.- lose their job or income, then

Fear #2.- fall seriously ill and then

Fear# 3.- receive the health care they need, but lose valued assets.

Yes, playing on fear is a common tactic of politicians, President Obama Included.

Yes it is a shame that people are adamant about being afraid of things that they should not be, and not afraid of the things they should be. Damn humans.

This thread, and what Elke says, reminds me of a reply i made to another thread:"I can't even turn on the news anymore" by Helious.I would strongly suggest that folks with young children start seriously looking into relocating to another country,if at all financialy possible..A good and free life can still be had in South Africa,Namibia,Botswania, etc. For those who can possibly afford it,i would certainly advise leaving the US.

Name one thing you cannot do today that you could do four years ago.

Or are you just making things up based upon what you hear at Fox New Station?

~braindeadconservatives

I can no longer believe that the the U.S. will never have another president as bad as George W. Bush.

I can no longer truthfully state that the American people would never elect a semi-black president.

I cannot truthfully state that a naturalized citizen can't be president of the United States.

Your statement is silly if not outright cliché. It's as if you expect that someone might believe that they can no longer drive to Walmart to buy a Sony Playstation because of Barack Hussein Obama.

I'm sorry, but all I can base my existence on, is my own experience. The assertion is that the
world is crumbling and Obama is going to make us read Red Books and keep us from gathering
in groups of three or more people. Why don't you attack those assertions with such vigor? I wonder...
Who is more fantastic here? LOL

President Obama signed legislation reauthorizing the USA Patriot Act as well as his bank bailouts. Obama did an end-run around Congress to give a virtual amnesty to thousands of illegal aliens, halt their deportation, and help them get jobs. He continues the unconstitutional appropriation of legislative powers and corrupt & destructive policies of previous presidents.

George W Bush bailed out the banks, are you trying to re write history?

When you have numerous government agencies, "czars", a Goldman Sachs administration, and unlimited finances there is really no way to know what is going on or who specifically is responsible. You just know that they have an unrestricted capacity to do anything they please and that it needs to end.

I do not think it is fair to Obama to a different standard from Ronald Reagan and all the other presidents
who used Czars, it has been going on since Obama was 20 years old, so again nice focus.

Obama's biggest fault is that he has done nothing to increase transparency, reduce the power of the federal government, reform campaign finance, or put an end to the hidden powers which control the nation. I can't financially compete with the political contributions of J.P Morgan nor could I legally do so it if I could.

Now you have some good points here. If you want to take it to a thread that is not based upon some
emotional cry for fear and fright, please invite me to it.

Obama is right, that actually happens everyday, it bankrupted two families I know personally.
Do you think it is unreasonable for the president, to address a concern that effects TENS of
MILLIONS of citizens? Can you sit there while you are reading these words and explain how
Obama's reasoning fits the criteria of Goebbels reaction solution or Varga's approach? Because
Obama misses the key component which distinguishes dictatorial propaganda (even in the case
of Mao, or Hussain), the human enemy, the embodiment is key to the reaction solution because
that solidifies the brand fear used in totalitarian ventures. Is Obama using Healthcare as a vehicle
to imprison his political enemies?

See, I am very disappointed with your thread because you attempt to align this period of history
with one of the most well documented periods in the history of man, but you completely fail
to recognize the psychological efforts that lead to those past atrocities. People were crushed by
fear of apparitions, that tyranny was a heart beat away, that THEY are coming to get you and
EAT YOU like Gouhoa spoke of. Now nowhere have I seen Obama paint the picture of the omni-
present group/s who are plotting to destroy America. You see, those efforts are entirely necessary
to garner the reaction = FEAR and then the solution = decimation of political opponents/opposition.
In modern history, this is the key equation to tyranny, because without a willing populace, you
cannot create the chain starting at reaction.

The war on terror DID follow this equation because it established a never ending enemy and a
high level of sustained fear. Color coded charts to dictate the level of fear people should feel,
based upon information that was too classified for anyone to challenge. The entire era followed
the formula, 9/11, the white powder sent to the political opposition, the fear and the calls for
a solution based upon that never ending fear of terrorism and eradication.

So I think it is unreasonable to equate Healthcare, which can very well bankrupt, as it does
everyday, to lurking Jews, Communist, Capitalists, Gypsies and Muslims who are going to
KILL you, literally and take over your country.

So what you might not recognize is that you are, creating the ground work for reaction solution.
In fact, what is really scary is that politicians do not have to do the work anymore. This site
is crawling with people how honestly believe that AMERICAN lefties are trying to turn America
into the USSR. You may be insulated by your own ideology, but that my friend is a pretty sick
pot to stir. Equating nearly 2/5 of America with America's mortal enemies is a very good way to
perpetuate blind fear and open up the doors for solutions to the problem, again, all based upon
the fear which is relentlessly cultivated.

Once you make people fearful, you can control them and if everyone if fearing that America's
mortal enemy is in the White house (USSR) and populating the cities, we have a catalyst for
bloodshed and the death of real, reasonable conversation.

And patriotism is the tool used to inflict tyranny, because it can be a blind state of mind.
If you recall the War On Terror, patriotism was used to launch the wars, the growth of
government and the increase of security. To challenge those things was unpatriotic in 2002
and mocked. A patriot is ripe for using to take away freedom because patriotism requires
unwavering loyalty and a suspension of critical thought. Think about 9/11 people,

I hear where you are coming from, and your point is a valid one. The "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel" POV. This is true to a certain extent.

However, I believe there is a difference between true patriotism - and a government that, without exception, equates their every policy with patriotism. I believe the history of true patriotism is the history of resistance against government. I believe false patriotism is when the government clamors for the people to blindly rally behind it else they will be gobbled up by some invisible hobgoblin. It is an effective strategy, as you have pointed out. It works. It is the argument of tyrants as it is the creed of slaves and it provides the further advantage of giving the servants of tyranny a good conscience. Thus the definition is murky as it means two different things and both are truth.

In my minds eye, when I define true patriotism, I think of men like the Marquis de Lafayette...

Then I'm reminded of the other side of patriotism. A gaggle of wooden men, cheering the opening salvo's of the newest "shock and awe" campaign on FOX. USA! USA! USA!

Unfortunately there are many more examples of the latter than there are of the former.

socialism now.

"The Case For Killing Granny,""

Believe it or not, the title of this Newsweek's piece is actually "The Case For Killing Granny," and in it the author writes that the need to spend less money on the elderly at the end of life is the elephant in the room in the health-reform debate.

Several things struck me about the article, in addition to the author appearing to be sincere, basically factual, and logical to a fault - the sanctity of human life never enters into the equation: One, Barack Obama is going to love it, two, aside from the case of the author's dear mother, in my mind it makes the case to reject Obamacare because most Americans don't wish to go the route of Terry Schiavo, and three, it neglects the fact that paying providers less for their services results in even greater rationing of care because fewer doctors will be willing to postpone retirement for less money and fewer rural clinics will be able to afford to stay in business.

That is not the same and you are not following the way this works psychologically.
Obama is not seeking out wheelchair bound kids and blaming all of America's woes
upon the evil handicapped kids. It my be unjust to do this as it clearly is, but it
is not the process which leads to militarization. You see the bogeyman thing only
works when a large portion of the population believes that the bogey men are out
to harm them too... It is a logical equation, nobody thinks Handicapped kids are
a danger besides the idiot TSA agents.

But what still remains is your work, using the essence of the real reaction solution
equation to paint a picture that is not really present. But you you did make a lot of
people react and they all seem to be scared of something; Obama, communists,
Liberals or something like that destroying America. The fear on ATS is amazing,
but that fear is not only fear, it is a form of control. Do you fear that your neighbors
are secret terrorists??? Do some people?

Does anyone you know fear that a kid in a wheel chair is a terrorist?

Do a lot of you fear that Progressives are turning America into America's
mortal enemy, USSA?

There's the reaction, what will the solution be? Will it be easy the way Bush
did all the things conservatives claim to hate now? Because in the face of
fear and just a little coaxing conservatives actively defended the reaction
solution after 9/11.How about getting rid of the disgusting commies who are
ruining America?

Just wait, someone will propose it, the ground work has been laid

I hate it when ignorant people stop reading after the first 6 letters "social..." and suddenly their brain stops working and they scream communism.

Fear can be a positive tool if you don't let it consume you. I learned this in the military. Fear heightens your senses and keeps you alert. Our universities are repositories of socialist activity and communist manifestos. This "ism" has proved to be a cancer on all who serve under its rule!! Some of you on this board will be by my side someday, maybe, in this fight, and others will be our targets. It's as simple as that.

Yes, this is very true.

When it comes to tyranny, germans have seen it all and done it all.
We're sadly somewhat the experts in tyranny and know both sides of the extreme.
There is no other country in the world with this kind of experience.

The only positive aspect of our dark history is, our current political model reflects those experiences.
The very costly lessons we learned have led to a pretty good and balanced system, which is arguably the most successfull around today.

If you're interested in how and why our current system came into existence, I suggest to read up on its father Wilhelm Röpke and why he designed the model of a social market economy.

Or you can just repeat history and learn all those lessons yourself, as some posters stated before.
