Blacklisted as ‘Troublemakers,’ UK Construction Workers Struggle for Justice
For years, they wondered why they kept getting turned down for jobs, even when they seemed well qualified. The workers might have all just chalked it up to bad luck if they hadn't eventually discovered they were at the center of an extraordinary conspiracy.
An investigation by the U.K. governments Information Commissioners Office (ICO) in 2009 revealed that some of the countrys most prominent construction firms had worked with a secretive company, The Consulting Association, to create a blacklist of workers with a history of being suspected troublemakers or labor advocates. As fresh details have recently surfaced in the British media, the scandal has taken on shades of a British crime thriller, a Sunday tabloid and a treatise on the English working class.
Police are linked to blacklist of construction workers Security services 'gave data to clandestine organisation funded by major names in building industry'
The police or security services supplied information to a blacklist funded by the country's major construction firms that has kept thousands of people out of work over the past three decades.
Its database was seized nearly three years ago, but the extraordinary nature of the information held has only now emerged, following an employment tribunal for one of the victims, Dave Smith, a 46-year-old engineer who had a 36-page file against his name and was victimised repeatedly for highlighting safety hazards on sites, including the presence of asbestos.

The only problem there is many of these people were black listed for protesting for better health and safety...A worthy cause I believe.

Thats a bit harsh dont you think? We need trade unions and there like so employers give the work force a fair deal, which they dont my friend. A fair days pay for a fair days work went the way of the dinosaurs when that evil woman Lady Thatcher smashed the UK unions in the 80s.edit on 20-3-2012 by andy06shake because: (no reason given)

The Unions held the country to ransom. They *needed* smashing.
They started off benign enough and served a valid purpose, but then they realised they had a real power, and could hold the country to ransom, and did so. At that point, they crossed the line from supporting and representing their workforce, to making demands with threats.
At that point, the government, lead by Lady Thatcher, had to take action, or lose control of the country to a bunch of unelected bodies.
Smashing the power of the unions was the only valid choice, at that point in history. Sorry.

Read my post above and educate yourself!
If a company is corrupt, ie: Dodging health and safety and or syphoning monies......We have a problem!
This "Blacklist" is the corrupt companies way of protecting their interests......And you agree with it??
And you also "think" Thatcher was a positive person for the UK??
Hmmm......how old are you may I ask?edit on 20-3-2012 by zerozero00 because: (no reason given)

Then why are you so concerned about Unions. It seems you have the race to the bottom, you so obviously desire.
