Wow the hypocrisy stinks in this thread. After everyone's talk how matters should be handled internally Russia rolls in and is praised for it. The truth is you want anyone but the US or West to do it. Which in reality is fine by me. I don't want the US to be involved either. But even now its not good enough you claim since the West is in there its good Russia is too, but the West isn't in there. You got no proof.

Your arguments have alot of straw and no proof in them. They just sound good because its against the "evil empire". You'll see how good things will get comrade enjoy. You act as if Russia isn't one of the most corrupt regime's on the planet. The only difference between them and the US is the US tries to hide their corruption. Russia doesn't care. Who is next Iran or Syria make up your minds. Who even knows anymore.

It seems we are all ready for a war. Lets do it.

Have you read any of the other comments?

Most are siding with Russia intervening and putting down the rebels that the US and the West is backing in order to destabilize another peaceful nation ala Libya.

This was news years ago but it really doesn't matter since Democrats lied to get into power and the liberal press didn't want to report the news.

A lot of Chinese workers not soldiers in Africa and a destroyer, a frigate and a supply ship to fight piracy should not mean the Chinese are eager to get involved. Anyway...I think the Russians, US and China are working together. These days they do not use the "hotline" but tele conferencing. The US cannot do it on its own unless it wants to nuke the whole world so there is a need for global cooperation between these countries. besides they know each other so well.

Who writes this conspiracy non-sense? I've been tracking the Russian Navy auxiliary tanker for weeks now since it left the Black Sea and entered the Mediterranean. It has been sending Morse Code weather and sea state broadcasts. Think about it. If it was loaded with Russian special forces being sent to help Assad then do you really think that it would be openly revealing its position from the Black Sea through the Bosphorus and onwards to Tartus?

It is an auxiliary tanker that deploys with its own force protection. No different from any other nations vessels and especially when entering a port of a nation in turmoil.

Here is an Morse Code intercept from last night on the 20th. As I stated earlier I have been copying the Morse Code and its positional information since it left the Black Sea.

Here is one I copied yesterday. It should transmit again during the 12 GMT hour?

From the 20th at 00 GMT

RCV DE RMGB 20001 99349 10358 22200

The second and third groups of the full weather broadcast contain the lat and long.

Absolutely amazing how a vessel with a routine force protection compliment can cause die-hard conspiracy loons to go nuts!

Even the Amur Class Repair Ship (Callsign RIR98) that was previously in Tartus, Syria had a protection force onboard.

rusnavy.com...

'To provide security during the cruise, PM-56 had an anti-terror group and boarding party consisting of BSF marines.'

BSF = Black Sea Fleet

Even this vessel was sending Morse Code weather reports from Tartus, Syria and all the way back to the Black Sea.

ABC News, published on Yahoo. Did you bother to click the link? Also, I'm former Navy, and if SF is going to be doing operations, they're not going to be broadcasting it in Morse Code. I think even Russia has moved onto satellite communication technology, encrypted, etc. for such communications.

Yes I clicked on the link. I'm talking about the bull crap conspiracy websites that are stating that the tanker is deploying troops in order to aid Assad. If the vessel was carrying troops for that alleged mission then it isn't going to be broadcasting its positional information using international weather format all the way from the Black Sea to Syria. The story is as bogus as the claims of Russian warships arriving in Syria during October/November of last year. The tanker currently in Tartus is crewed mainly by civilians. It carries a standard compliment of marines as a protection force. The last thing that Russia would want is elements of the Free Syrian Army to target the vessel. If required the protection force also allows for it to deploy through the Suez and link up with the Russian anti-piracy patrols in the Red Sea and Horn of Africa.

Thanks for this thread OP.

People moan about people posting content that has already been posted but I had missed this, and it is quite an important aspect in understanding why NATO hasn't intervened in Syria yet- if Russian troops are there, they can't exactly start dropping bombs.

Perhaps the Russians have been building up intel on who exactly the rebels are. More importantly, who is behind the rebels.

It's almost chess match esque, I think Russia knows a lot more about Western tactics in the region than they let on.

The crazy claims of Russian troops in Syria are based on the movements of the Black Sea Tanker Iman. Yes the Russians have a naval base and military advisers, but the whacky claims are based on conspiracy non-sense that thousands of Russian troops are in Syria and that Russian Special Forces are directly involved. Large numbers of Russian troops can't just get into Syria unnoticed. Even the Russian are baffled by all the conspiracy non-sense surrounding their routine naval deployments and have released media to counter the media froth.

The ship involved in the original controversy, Tanker Iman, is still transmitting Morse Code weather that include positional information. As already admitted by the Russians it carries an anti-terrorist protection force. Standard operational procedures to protect the mainly civilian crew and especially when visiting Syria when it is internal unrest. If the vessel was transporting troops for direct involvement it is not going to be transmitting international weather and giving its location away on transit. Currently the Iman is heading west into the central Mediterranean.
