Excellent point !!!!!!

The homeless probably don't bother to vote (who could blame them?) so the politicians REALLY avoid them. And I never once thought of them...

Thanks for making me think
THAT is why I love this site.

It was a radio ad, the footage was added by CNN (I guess). Not sure why they chose to use the footage they did, when the ad is suposed to be about an old lady who uses foodstamps to "help her eat healthy"

This has been said over and over again and I do think there is some truth to it. When someone depends on government support they are going to vote for those who give them handouts. Anyone want to guess what party the majority of welfare recipients side with?

if some of you bothered to do some research, you would see a lot more red states on welfare than blue..THIS IS FACT!

As it turns out, it is red states that are overwhelmingly the Welfare Queen States. Yes, that's right. Red States — the ones governed by folks who think government is too big and spending needs to be cut — are a net drain on the economy, taking in more federal spending than they pay out in federal taxes. They talk a good game, but stick Blue States with the bill.

Take a look at the difference between federal spending on any given state and the federal taxes received from that state. We measure the difference as a dollar amount: Federal Spending per Dollar of Federal Taxes. A figure of $1.00 means that particular state received as much as it paid in to the federal government. Anything over a dollar means the state received more than it paid; anything less than $1.00 means the state paid more in taxes than it received in services. The higher the figure, the more a given state is a welfare queen. Of the twenty worst states, 16 are either Republican dominated or conservative states. Let's go through the top twenty.
New Mexico: $2.03
Mississippi: $2.02
Alaska: $1.84
Louisiana: $1.78
West Virginia: $1.76
North Dakota: $1.68
Alabama: $1.66
South Dakota: $1.53
Kentucky: $1.51
Virginia: $1.51
Montana: $1.47
Hawaii: $1.44
Maine: $1.41
Arkansas: $1.41
Oklahoma: $1.36
South Carolina: $1.35
Missouri: $1.32
Maryland: $1.30
Tennessee: $1.27
Idaho: $1.21

Does anyone else notice the overwhelming presence of northern "rugged individualist" states, like Alaska, the Dakotas and Montana, along with most of the South? Why it's almost like there's a pattern here or something. Where can we find liberal bastions California, New York, and Massachusetts? California is 43rd, getting back only $0.78 for every dollar it sends to Washington. New York is 42nd, and one penny better off, at $0.79 per dollar. Massachusetts is 40th, receiving $0.82 for every dollar it sends to DC.

and some more..

A nice map showing the states that receive more than a dollar back for every dollar they pay in taxes (which they've coded red), and the states that receive less than a dollar back for every dollar they pay in taxes (which they've coded blue). Just to repeat: Red states are getting a good deal, and blue states a bad one. Here's the map:

Many readers of The Times were, therefore, surprised to learn, from an excellent published article last weekend, that the regions of America most hooked on Mr. Santorum’s narcotic — the regions in which government programs account for the largest share of personal income — are precisely the regions electing those severe conservatives. Wasn’t Red America supposed to be the land of traditional values, where people don’t eat Thai food and don’t rely on handouts? The article made its case with maps showing the distribution of dependency, but you get the same story from a more formal comparison. Aaron Carroll of Indiana University tells us that in 2010, residents of the 10 states Gallup ranks as “most conservative” received 21.2 percent of their income in government transfers, while the number for the 10 most liberal states was only 17.1 percent.

Making such a big deal out of 75 billion a year in order to prevent people from starvation vs. the endless money spent on fighting wars that have nothing to do with us?

Pathetic. I'm sick of my taxes going to fund other peoples wars, and I'm more than happy to know that some of my tax money helps those in need.

Everyone is missing the point here! Including Fux News!

The FDA Food Stamp Act was put in place to help those that cannot provide for their loved ones or themselves!

This is a good thing! Its a step in evolution in response to the fact that people are living longer, which is also why Social Security and MediCare are failing!

In response to their radio ad campaign, which seems to have all ATS'ers jumping on the conspiracy wagon, who was the target audience? They were targeting the same older people who qualify for government aid!

Did you guys not listen to the actual radio ads? They were a series of elderly woman just trying to make the idea of Food Stamp less humiliating. The Food Stamp act is probably the most efficient and beneficial form of government intervention to date!

So say thanks for the support and move on.

Breaking News OAXACA, Mexico - The elder daughter of U.S. President Barack Obama is spending her spring break in the historic Mexican city of Oaxaca in the company of 12 friends, a state police official said.
The young tourists, including 13-year-old Malia Ann Obama, are staying at a downtown hotel in this city famous for its colonial architecture and well-preserved native American traditions, the official said.
"We are here to block access to the hotel by other people and escort the vehicles that are carrying the visitors to tourism sites," the police official told AFP under the condition of anonymity.

Malia Obama and her friend are guarded by 25 U.S. Secret Service agents as well as Mexican police, the official noted.
The group, which arrived in Oaxaca Saturday, has already visited the architectural zone of Mitla and the tree of El Tule believed to have one thousand years.
The sightseeing plan also includes visits to Monte Alban known for its archeological research sites and Oaxaca’s famous artisan quarters

if people are hungry, they should be able to eat something.........

There is a self entitlement problem here in the states.

Community service should be a requirement for government assistance.

Just some junkie logic.
Community service sounds like an awesome idea! You want food; we'll work around your schedule so you can pay it off. People forget that someone has to pay for that food stamp program. Oh.....I forgot, Its ALL the people who aren't on food stamps...!

How about this:

Currently we pay farmers billions of dollars to not plant food.

Let them plant the food, the government buys the food and then give the poor boxes of nutritious food.

We create jobs in the distribution of this free food.

We deliver good food directly to the poor.

We eliminate food stamp corruption.

There is an illegal family who lives down the road from us. While I struggle to make money for my family, they are living off the high hog.

Don’t ask me how I know. I’ll just say that I have my ways. This is what they have…

1.$1100.00 IN FOOD STAMPS FOR 4 KIDS (MOTHER PREGNANT AGAIN).
2.Medicaid.
3.HUD housing.
4.Pal grant checks for school loans.
5.3 different business names under their address. (All fake).
6.$40,000 Lexus with “I love Obama” bumper sticker on back.
7.$50,000 truck with $6,000 wheels and rims.

My older son used to get along with one of the kids from the family. That was until we found out he was dealing drugs.

And WHO is paying for all the above? The middle class! Makes me SICK!

Oh, did I forget to mention, they are ALL illegal!

I live in Denver which is a sancuary city...

AGREED! Nothing should be 'FREE'. Which should also apply to anyone with a driving license. Driving is NOT a RIGHT that's granted for life. I'm so tired of getting run off the road or out of my lane by 90 year old people driving Cadillacs at 80mph.

Anyhow, I have a sister-in-law on food stamps and I cringe every time she opens her mouth about not having money...she hasn't worked in years, although she is completely capable of doing so. I'm so sick of the crutches our government and the liberal agenda hand out to people who A.) don't care who's actually paying for their laziness, B.) refuse to work, and C.) expect to be treated just like everyone else just because they were born...Sorry folks, but the free rides and meal tickets need to stop unless you're willing to give something back (aka your time and effort) to your community.

Really? You,and so many others, assume people are being self entitled.

Do you know me? Do you know how I grew up? Do you know of my families struggles with the food assistance programs to this day?

Really, my mother and I were talking about this yesterday. you see, I do know a person, a friend of the family that is employed by BCMW. She has years of college under her belt and BCMW pays here to go to DC to take training courses.

Why is this relevant you ask,

Because she works in the local office and she told my mother that she says it really is'nt worth it anymore.

Why, you ask, because all she does is deal with rude and improper people all day that think she personally screwed up their little account and actually demand her to fix it.

These people do not care about her, you, or me, these people, as she put it herself, think that they are entitled to it. Why do these people act like this? Because they are good citizens?

It really does bother her and it is a problem. If you choose to ignore it or stick up for people you do not even know, then that is your problem.

My mother told her that she has to really focus and absorb it when people(good citizens) that are there and really appreciate it. She looked at my mother and said, "you know, there was a woman the other day that expressed her gratitude for the assistance"......This is one case out of the hundreds or thousands that she has dealt with. And for her to say "one person", out of the hundreds or thousands shows that there is a problem.

AND THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO.

Yes they do have a right to. If you are a citizen of the united States, you have the right to many things, starving should not be one of them.

Whoever decided THEY HAD THE RIGHT TO STEAL ALL THE LAND AND RESOURCES ON THIS PLANET AND THEN DOLE THEM OUT TO YOU IF YOU WERE THEIR SLAVE IS COMMITTING MASSIVE CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY.

Why are you hammering away like that.

It is the system we have. The system in which we live. The system which we all must obide by. I do not dictate this, hell I cannot even vote. So why you want to yell and holler at me

All I can say to you is, if you feel this strongly about it, then go out and make a difference. Don't blame me for the problems brought on by congress and our leaders.

In other words everyone shared equally in all resources and land, and should already be in homes, growing gardens, sharing, helping each other, and living quite well with some joint projects, without any of them, banks, or their forced employment.

This is a dream weorld, not the world in which we live in. Maybe you, but I have bills to pay and food to put on the table.

I cannot dictate how the economy steams ahead. All I can do is do the best I can with what I have to deal with.

We all want little picket fences in the front yard and and little rabbits to raise and not have bills to pay. Unfortunately I see it how it really is.........Not a dream world, I deal with it the best I can and I keep trucking forward.......Working to pay the bills, because that is what is offered. Until your little dream of a system comes to fruition, I deal with the hand I am dealt.

For all that was stolen from us and our children and the loss of property, home, lifestyle, and the torture and abuse put on people instead, this is huge. If put into dollars, they owe us massively.

I agree, but unfortuntely we live in a world of greed. It will not change because of the mentality of the human race. Everybody's team has to be better and you have to keep up with the Jones's.

It is the system we have.

And I'm not joking. I am so completely fed up with all the programmed robots making those comments, who are a part of the criminal actions of the leaders of this planet.

Thats cool, you don't have to yell at me about it though,

I am sure there is plenty of room down at the occupy camps in your city(or wherever).

Go make a difference. I am all for it. Until then, I have to get up every morning and go to work just so I can try to enjoy being a productive citizen.

Lj01 usually likes your posts, but I feel that you are really angry over the current sytem and you are blaming the wrong people.

Lj01 is a felon. I cannot vote my friend. All I have is my words and this friggin keyboard to punch on to get my message through.

Lj01 out, I need a smoke

More people take advantage of the system than not. I see it every day at the local King Supers here in Denver. Nothing like having food stamps to buy a few New York Strips and some crab legs to boot. And of course, we need to have that $50,000 Lexus to drive it all off in. Are you that ignorant to what is really going on out there with the food stamp program?

It's obviously a way to keep the masses appeased as the times spiral downward. And it's not a new strategy either.

Ever heard an old latin phrase 'Panem et circenses'? Bread and games. When times got worse the Roman way of keeping the masses from rioting and what not, was to feed them and entertain them. Simple but effective. In those times they gave them gladiators; nowadays they give us Snookie and UFC.

And here comes the free bread.
