People are getting free rides so that they can use the HOV lane People line up by the dozens to wait to get picked up like at a bus station and just hop into random cars and then drive too work. Really amazing of what teamwork can do when we are being ripped off by the oil companies. I say ripped off because gas prices are 6.7% below the 2008 high, while oil is still 20% below the highest peak. Meaning we are being gouged bigtime.

"Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe," Mr. Chu, who directs the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California, said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal in September.

Imagine Bush's administration had said this...

If Bush had said it he would have been impeached by the press alone. People are very upset and concerned. I hear them talk about it. But nearly all of them believe there is nothing they can do.
Perhaps not, but complacency will never win. O yea gas wasn't 1.64 in 2009 it was 1.84 sorry for the typo but it still doubled

Oh there is things we can do, but the general public is to lazy to put forth the effort. Before we pick up the torches and pichforks and nooses, lets try either boycotting or a general work strike until they bow to our commands. The control is in the consumers hands it's up to them to make the effort.

Well at least that clip explains the wars in the middle east, tryijng to rob the arabs of as much oil as possible to get the gas prices down ever since. With the recent increases in gas prices though, i doubt those wars was going as planned.

Its 40 miles for me to downtown. I don't live in fear but I also handle my own situations. Even taking out the serial killer, I've seen these drivers and I certainly wouldn't put my life in their car!

I carried a passenger I knew and used the HOV lane. Now I'm working another job with no option to do that.

I think carpooling is great. I just don't think its a good idea to jump in a vehicle with a stranger.

Fair enough. It just seems to me we are in dire need of action and answers to pressing problems that are dismantling our very core as a society. I'm glad we all don't worry over a solution like riding in a car with a stranger to the point of feeling life threatened. Oh well, one persons big risk is another ones non worry I guess.

Fair enough to you too. I guess every city would be different in that respect. The crime rate in Houston is kinda bad with a large focus on car jackings. I guess that sways my opinion some. The car jackings have reached a point here that they don't even ask for the car, they just kill you and take it.

To each his own, so if you are happy to jump in the car with or let a stranger in your car go for it.
