Mother finally allows five-year-old son to have hair cut after playground bullying

Five-year-old schoolboy Rean Carter has never had his hair cut since the day he was born.

The youngster's flaxen curls are so long they tumble below the line of his belt and must be tied up at school.

But his locks are set for the chop after Rean, sick of being mistaken for a girl, demanded a trip to the barber.

Heartbroken mother Leeanne Smith said the haircut would be sponsored for charity.

The 30-year-old, of Hylton Castle, Sunderland, said: ''When Rean was born he had a lovely little curl of golden hair at the back of his head.

''I just could never bear to get it cut, not even his fringe."

'Now it flows all the way down his back to his bum and is very beautiful and soft."

''When we go out he is often mistaken for a little girl - people say 'Isn't she gorgeous' - but it has never bothered him; he just laughs.

''It was only when he joined school and had to have it tied back in a ponytail, for health and safety, that some of the other little boys began to make fun."

''They said he could not play with them because he looked like a girl."

''I've already cried at the thought of him having it cut, and will cry again when it actually happens.''

The Telegraph

Isn't the mother perhaps a little selfish? If she had wanted a daughter, surely she should of had one or adopted one, instead of trying to turn her little boy into one.

Long hair does not make you a girl any more than short hair makes you a boy.

But it makes you look like one.

The point is, the little boy wants to look like a little boy, much to his mother's distress.

As much as I'd love to fight the powers on this one, the mother is rediculous.....are you kidding me?

It doesn't take genius to know your son.....and honestly I had to do a double take at that point...would be crucified for having that hair. The mother has issues. I'd never want MY child to be a target for bullying over my own beliefs.

This is ridiculous.

Well, you obviously have not seen "his" hair. There is a difference between having long hair as a boy, and this [snip]

Who would want their child to have unnecessary bullying for something at can be remedied?

The mother needs to have her head examined. There is a difference between having a cute curl, and THIS abomination. I'd never wish this on my son.

To let her son go to school looking like this, the mother clearly has issues.

Unfortunately this young boy was being used by his mother for her own selfish pleasure. Just because she liked the golden locks on her son's head, she was consumed by it and never considered the consequences of her son being ridiculed.

A young child growing up doesn't know any better because they're being molded by the parent. Until the child is put in social situations like school, they start developing their own sense of who they are and what they want.
This is really an example of poor parenting.

Why won't she brush his hair, its going to become dread locks if it keeps looking like that....

I hate parents that think their kid is their property and they have the right to control everything about them.

The mother is a joke.....wow. How selfish can you get? Good for her "son" to press his mother to cut his hair.

AND I can't help but notice, not only does HE have long hair, but his own mother put PINK bands in his hair to make it into a ponytail.

Says a lot.

I think she wanted a daughter, and subjected him to her fantasies.

He should be taken away.

I'm with everyone else. I think the authorities might even want to keep this lady in the back of their minds.. Oh, not to do anything over long hair of course. Just to keep her and this whole thing in mind if more comes up in the future. She definitely sounds in need of Dr. Phil or..maybe Jerry Springer. Poor kid...

There is a two year brother who has never had his hair cut either.

Daily Mail

"His little brother Regan, who is two, has the same hair. I'll let his grow and then when he gets to Rean's age we can auction his off too."

Indepede nt.ie

The mother has issues. She is also selfish.
