"As for death, I agree that pornography does not cause death and that my analogy was not a perfect one but I was rushing."

Actually, HIV is rampant with women and men in the industry, and HIV is often fatal. So, yes, the porn industry breeds HIV, which leads to death.

Actually, you will find the porn industry is merciless in their testing of VD in general...it is less risky to be with a porn star than it is being with that girl at the bar with a short dress on.

HIV does happen, yes...and when a porn star gets it, it makes news...what doesn't make news is when Matilda the local gal gets it and gives it to 6 other people in a year because she hasn't gotten checked in ages.

I guess that presidential candidate had run out of ideas, and thus made use of 'porn' to garner attention.

But that is the stupidiest thing he and his campaign managers have ever come up with.

I agree that porn is unhealthy, but it is a bedroom issue that govs have no place in it. Using the DRACONIAN method to fix the issue will be unsuccessful, and will only cause societal diversions with such agendas, as this hopeless republican candidate intended it for.

For him to use the Draconian measure of ban, goes to show how what a brainless authoritarian he is, and would become if the republican ever holds the most powerful office on planet Earth.

Draconian measures and authoritarianism will fail, and had provened to fail with each century. The answer to ensure better morals can only be better obtain through continual education, to convince and cajole - parents, siblings, loved ones and teachers on the need for better moral values in order to progress and evolve.

If that braindead republican candidate had opted for such a course, he might had succeeded winning voters. But unfortunately, only those whom are stupid, fools, idiots and the slow witted will vote for him, even after comming out with such thoughtless braindead plans.

I would prefer if he concentrates on the illegal sex trade business.

Just watch the movie - Taken - by Liam Neeson.

Making porn illegal would make people get it underground.

In my opinion, government has no right to legislate morality, due to its subjectivity. We all know that killing, stealing and lying are all bad things, but with things like pr0n, or whatnot, the moral high-ground gets dangerously murky.

Stick with the secular stuff, Santorum. Oh, wait, you can't do that can you?

Next.

Before one does a shoot any legitimate 'producer' requires the actors and actresses to have a recent HIV tests. Some even require a HIV test on the spot. So the porn industry(in the US) does not lead to HIV and death and steps are taken to prevent infections.

Porn is a lucrative business that turns people into meat to be sold in the market, and those who pay for it, and get paid to do it are nothing but people who turn themselves into sellable meat products.

So by paying to watch it we are supporting something bad. By not paying we are starving the porn industry of much needed income and helping fight the good fight against sin and depravity.

So what happens if we watch it but don't pay for it?

The stupidity of Santorum's continues to amaze me. I am glad he is in the race because it gives me something to laugh at. If he makes it on the ballot I won't be laughing and will be fleeing the USA.

I think he thinks along the lines of the westboro baptist church.

They made a pretty solid argument as to why they target gays and such actually. They said everyone knows the bad stuff is bad...child rapists, murderers, etc..hense why they don't bother protesting and such. They go after targets that are pretty much overlooked in society that will, in their mind, send them to hell.

I think Rick is looking at the overlooked and accepted part of society that he see's as damning...which is porn in general (or really anything outside of strictly procreative sex for the intent of making a baby).

I don't see this as a coherent strategy. Clearly the man believes in what he says...but that is not a trait to be admired across the board. Crazy people believe all sorts of crazy things..doesn't make them presidential, or even socially acceptable because they are honest.

Rick speaks from the heart, as his campaign staff said. His heart often clashes with facts, or any new ideals past the 12th century.

Rick, I would like to rephrase the quote:

"America is suffering a pandemic of harm from religion. It contributes to misogyny and violence against women."

Rick, I can understand where you're coming from. Hardcore religion can cause some hardcore views on sex. My old church used to say that sex was for procreation only. (Hence, forbidding the usual birth control methods.) The husband could always have an orgasm, while the wife, well, did her "wifely duty." And, Rick, if a husband couldn't control his "urges", then it was twin beds at best, separate rooms at worst.

Well, if this is where you're coming from, then I can understand. But, remember, if you were POTUS, then most of your constituents would not consider sinful (evil) either an orgasm without penetration or the sex act for pleasure only. Or masturbation sinful (evil). Heck, some might even use some of that hardcore porn you want to make illegal.

Why do I get a feeling that your punishment for using your illegal porn would be a flogging?

Rick, you would do well to heed the warning from an opponent:

Romney's spokeswoman, Andrea Saul, said at the time that the oath "contained references and provisions that were undignified and inappropriate for a presidential campaign."

God bless, ya, Rick! Run for a church office and enjoy church politics, but enough already with pursuing POTUS.

No one including the government has the right to decide what citizens of legal age can or cannot watch in the privacy of their own homes, no matter how sick or disgusting the movies might be! What the government should do is go after those slime that are involved in the production and distribution of films that involve children and those that show any form of violence against women!
I don't see anything wrong with folk of legal age watching the occasional video involving consensual sex, and couples who have been together for years, may even add some spice to their lives by watching a sex movie together. I said "occasional video" only because too much can take over the lives of some people.

It wouldn't surprise me to learn Santorum has some dark and dirty secrets hidden away! That's usually how it is with those public figures who cry out the loudest against sex of any form outside a marriage or any relationship! I'm sure most of us know certain well known TV preachers have been caught more than once with their pants down!

Like this bozo is really going to be able to shut down a multi-billion dollar a year industry
There are far too many big name money people involved in this industry, that have friends in congress...This will never happen

I think this article would dispute that.
articles.latimes.com...

And to hear from some of the women who have been affected by this industry:

www.shelleylubben.com...

It is not easy for women (and men) who perform in the industry to stay clear of sexually transmitted diseases. It's not just HIV, but chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis. So claiming that the porn industry hurts no one is ridiculous.

I really do not like sexual material which is exploitive to women or makes women look like this is their only real value. That being said, I like even less any religion that says sex should be for procreation only or that says that sex is wrong or dirty. A god who gives me a clitoris and then says but dont you dare touch it, does not make sense to me and it should be obvious to anyone that our bodies were designed to enjoy sex and that sex was supposed to be nice.

I'm sorry but this man is NOT a joke, he is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!!! And I SINCERELY believe that if this monster could have his way in all things every human being would be forced to convert to Catholicism or suffer torture or death. This madman would gladly take complete control over everything including waging IMMEDIATE WAR on all Muslim countries, complete devotion to Israel, the "proper Christian foods" to eat, "proper" marriage, "proper" sexual behavior between MARRIED COUPLES, and what is acceptable to be read and seen by human beings. I must admit that I'm having a great bit of difficulty even listening to the bizarre machinations of Rick Santorum's twisted mind. I believe that, if elected, this modern day Jingoist, Torquemada with the schadenfreude attitude would reign absolute, without remorse or regard for party, person or the Constitution, in bringing about (by force if necessary) a complete Theocratic state to our country !

You may want to qualify that statement with only those of legal age. There is a rampant child porn industry and that must be fought against at every turn. Our children are not for sexual entertainment.

Why do I get the feeling this guy has just lost quite a few votes?

He sounds like a major douche, hope he doesn't get much further. Saying that I'd guess that all of them are the same. If you're in for a shot as president it's probably a given that corrupt people have helped you get that far and that you're going to be causing problems once in office.

The whole system has got so bad that you just assume they're corrupt if they get in office nowadays, and I hope it falls apart as soon as possible so we can have people in office that we can have some sense of trust in. Back when Obama was doing his "we need change" thing many of us in the UK could see he was probably just another Tony Blair, promising everything then just being the same old same old once in office.

That's probably 95%+ likely for whoever gets in nowadays, as the people running the show make sure they get their people in power, and if you're not with them you'll probably get about as far as Ron Paul does.

The whole system is broken, and here's Santorum (or however his name is spelt, that's how much I care.) pledging to take away more freedom from people. Stuff him, and stuff the corrupt people backing him and most of the others running for president.

Karen, I don't like material that sexually exploits women either (I'm a woman), but I appreciate the common sense of your reply. Regarding this whole idea of porn being harmful toward women -- it's also harmful to men:

"The site arose in response to a growing demand for solid scientific information by heavy Internet erotica users experiencing perplexing, unexpected effects: escalation to more extreme material, concentration difficulties, sexual performance problems, radical changes in sexual tastes, social anxiety, irritability, inability to stop, and obsessive-compulsive symptoms.

"As a physiology teacher with a particular interest in the latest neuroscience discoveries, Gary was aware that their symptoms might be the result of addiction-related brain changes. Applying the website’s concepts of brain plasticity, many former users have braved withdrawal, reversed their symptoms and restored normal sexual responsiveness."

tedxglasgow.com...

See also:

"Not long ago, Italian urologists confirmed an erectile dysfunction-porn use connection via a large survey. When interviewed about the survey, urologist Carlo Foresta (head of the Italian Society of Andrology and Sexual Medicine and professor at the University of Padua) mentioned that 70 percent of the young men seeking clinical help for sexual performance problems admit to using Internet pornography habitually."

yourbrainonporn.com...

To claim that internet porn harms no one is ludicrous. It's really harming a lot of adolescent boys who are watching it, and as the science is proving, in entirely unpredictable, novel ways.

What the hell is wrong with these American politicians? I wouldn't mind if they enforce these stupid laws in their country, but I am sure, they'll try to shove down these laws into other countries as well.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

Wow Santorum.

You must be crazy. Don't you know that the vast majority of conservatives who rail against these sorts of things enjoy them in secrecy? Didn't you know about hypocracy in the bedroom by those who want to impose their "beliefs" into them?

Didn't you know that most people really really enjoy their little bit of "smut" every now and then?

Didn't know you that you Sir, are not fit to be a President, or an elected official, because you believe your opinion of how things should be is greater than that of your constituents?

Move along Sir. You have no place in modern times.
