well if you're military or rent-a-military you'll figure out that you're fighting for corporations not a single nation. b.p. goldman sachs, j.p. morgan, the bush's the obamas, those guys have you on your payroll. you never fought on behalf of an american citizen besides the above listed. if you want to fight for your country be a firefighter, or a boxer

This guy has to be a troll. I'm a veteran and I can tell you I love this country and most of its people. I feel the greatest threat to the US is it's government. I will back Americans if the #e hits the fan. Please don't think bad of our vets most of us are ordinary people who just want to serve our country. When I enlisted I actually took a huge cut in pay. I'm not saying there isn't bad eggs out there because that human nature. I was lucky and I had it easy compared to some. I can tell you that a lot of our guys are being screwed over both financially and medically buy not getting what was promised and what is due to them. You cannot know how that feels to give everything and then have your government and some of its people to turn their backs on you. God speed guys you will never be forgotten by those who matter and those who know.

What I want to know is OP. What your actual role is? Secondly your reasons for joining the military. An if on the off chance. You joined because you wanted to fight these organizations deemed threats to your way of life. Then what stopped you from getting a passport, getting on a plane and going over and fighting these conflicts off your own means?

As its already been stated numerous times. The general public, didnt ask you as an individual to become involved in international conflicts. You chose to join an institution that has warfare as one of its primary functions. Yet want to complain when others disagree with its actions and won't support them. Have a cup of concrete...

Maybe this thread didn't turn out like you wished..or maybe it turned out exactly as you planned.

I beg you..Please do not fight for me.

If taking orders is a calling...then...I order you to stop fighting.

Peace.

"I am sent where your vote sends me". Sorry bud, that is not the case at all. The people have no real say in where you are sent or who you fight and have no "vote" on it whatsoever. You are totally disillusioned. I have family who are ex military and know others who are ex military, and I know they will fight for the people.

Homeland Security left me in the middle of the damn country being attacked by Aliens and did not give a damn! I had no weapons to defend myself! I was a single parent looking for decent work that I had a passion for! I got taken on a bridge in Charleston, West Virginia near the Amtrak Station and put on another Bridge about 1 or 2 miles from where I was at. I was found walking around in shock! I had to return to NC and the locals destroyed the rest of me! The local cops beat me up and forced me into a hospital which destroyed my Career! I then lost the only home that I had for me and my children. Then I lost custody of my youngest son at 15 because I talked about being taken by Aliens. Then I was told to never talk about being taken by aliens in public! But what the hell life goes on and I fight to survive and take care of my children! I work everyday and I am a full time student just trying to survive!

My initial reaction to the OP was one of outrage and the same sentiments a lot of people here have voiced along the lines "then stop fighting pointless wars for corporations, I can fight for myself, you're not defending our freedoms, etc"

Then I started thinking about the global financial meltdown, if TPTB are getting nervous the sheeople might be waking up or that their current reign might be close to collapse and who would come to their defense when TSHTF. Well of course they are going to try and use the militaries that they have been using to further their own goals, but the problem is, what if the military personel don't cooperate? In comes the tried and try practice of trying to brainwash the enlisted into thinking their own citizens will soon be the next enemy and that they are "defending freedoms of the majority by defeating the civilian terrorists at home that would dare challenge their 'way of life'" This of course meaning TPTB way of life, not ours on the lowly peasant level. So in order to turn a military on its people, you would need to start brainwashing the troops to think along the same lines as TPTB and make the troops also see the "civilians" as the "enemy" then when the time comes, it's easier to issue those orders and have them followed......

Just a wandering thought I had while trying to follow this thread and it's many twists and turns. I've known many good soldiers in my life and been privileged to call them friends, I've also seen a lot of them suffer through the VERY REAL symptoms of PTSD as their government turned a blind eye to them. Our troops really do get the raw end of the deal, they are the ones put in harms way for political purposes, the media protrays them as the bad guys all the time and they are the "Face of America" that many other countries see (usually not in a good way.)

These truly are dark days....hopefully the light is coming.

You say you were "called" to being in the military? Yet a core tenet of any military is to PROTECT the CIVILIAN POPULATION...Do you see the blatant contradiction there? I have served in the military, and from my experience I say that you are absolutely incorrect on WHY people enlist.

The vast majority of those I've served with did not join because they felt it was their "calling". I didn't either. Those who make a career out of the service may have felt that way, and in fact, anyone who feels they are destined for the military SHOULD make a career out of it, otherwise they obviously were wrong.

Acting arrogant and not having any desire to protect the citizens of your nation tells me that you should NOT be in the military, for multiple reasons, but mainly because you have ZERO integrity or character. I say this because you lied while enlisting. You took an oath to your nation, and yet you just denounced it with this thread.

I will not even waste any more of my time explaining to you why you are wrong, but you definitely are.

Looks like our soldier boy OP has RETREATED like a frightened 'tween girl!!

The OP had NO CHANCE of winning such a LAME battle as this with the intelligent folks here at ATS.

You've been utterly degraded to that of toilet scum OP.

OP is most likely BITTER for being dishonorably discharged due to WHINING and SOBBING with tears too much like a little young girl and acting like a coward in the face of action.

Dont take your bitterness out on ATS as you'll lose solder girl.

Well the blowhard that wrote that little piece might just get his hiny handed to him by a civilian who has been there done that.
It's easy to type brave words behind the anonymity of a keyboard.

I hope he's smart enough to stay away from the working class neighborhoods (see above)

He shouldn't be beaten up. The OP was an expression of extreme pain. He needs psychological help, not violence. He needs healing.

Wow. So being anti-war is being a scumbag, is it? What isn't being a scumbag then, pray tell?

Is it an unquestioning belief in America's supposed sovereign right, to vapourise literally any other country it pleases, down to the bedrock?

No, being anti war doesn't make a person a scum bag. But anti-war socialists generally are scum bags. Look at Ron Paul, anti war but pro Military(just not pro Military Industrial Complex)

You don't fight for us?

You fight for the corporations of America.

I don't want you fighting over in the middle east for no damn reason.

A better question would be, why do you fight for them?

I joined as a junior leader at 16 in the Infantry... I had wanted to be a soldier as long as I can remember. I come from a family with a very strong military history with all of my family serving except for my dad..

I have to add that at writing the op I was very pissed off and drunk.. Maybe not the best time to come on ATS! However conversations I have had with serving mates and ex serving mates say the same thing..

I am only speaking up for British troops, not American, however I have heard some of the same stuff come from them too..

Call it disillusionment... We are sick of being used and abused... Whenever the country calls we stand up.. Infact even after the angst of my post I know in my heart that I would stand up too.. Albeit reluctantly.. Because if we dont then who will??

We live up to our oaths and responsibilities... However we are on our chinstraps... After 10 years of war.. Even more for me... At our wits end.. Sick of being let down by our government in and out of service.. And being hated on...

We deserve better..
