Hmmm. He might have denied it, but if you go to his official website at
catstevens.com..., you will find this -
"He embraced his new religion with a zeal common in converts, and signed on to many of its political trappings. In the 1980s, he supported the death
sentence issued against author Salman Rushdie; during the Persian Gulf war he spoke sympathetically of his ?Muslim brother,? Iraqi President Saddam
Hussein."
So if he didn't agree with the Fatwa, why does it state the contrary on his website?
It should also be noted that Cat Stevens may not be quite as innocent as he claims. In 1988 he was deported from Israel for allegedly giving tens of
thousands of dollars to the terrorist organisation Hamas and then caught trying to re-enter the country (whilst already banned) on another occasion in
2000.

Incidentally, the music of Cat Stevens is now officially endorsed by the Iranian government. Ironically the first Western band that the regime
accepted and promoted was Queen. Cat Stevens also happens to be quite the little homophobe - it's quite ironic that he and Freddie Mercury should be
linked together in this way.
