Strong quakes shake Japan, but no apparent damage

TOKYO — A series of earthquakes rattled Tokyo and northeast Japan late Wednesday evening but caused no apparent damage or injury in the same region hit by last year's devastating tsunami.

The strongest tremor, off Hokkaido island, was 6.8 magnitude and caused tidal changes that prompted some communities to issue evacuation orders or tsunami advisories to residents nearest the coast.

This is only 3 days after the 1 year anniversary of the Fukushima incident. The timing, as geological time goes, is almost perfect. We'll probably see a few weeks more of lesser, or possibly stronger, tremors in the area. It's good see there wasn't any major damage or deaths.

The Earth is really waking up for some reason around there!

Wasn't there a similar size jolt just days before the big earthquake (9.1) last year that caused the tsunami over there?

I hope this isn't a foreshock to something bigger.

Indeed there was a little series of bigger quakes

But for the sake of those poor people, I hope this is not a very bad deja vu (is that how you spell that??)

I don't have a good feeling about
these quakes. Wanted to join in
to get further updates. It is difficult
to believe there is no damage.

Friend of mine is over there. I heard that his hotel shook pretty good, kind of an eye opener.
Let's hope for no repeat of last year.
