South Africa tried to sell US attack helicopters to Iran.

Now I’m not one of the people who will advocate to blatantly obvious attempts by the US to make war with Syria and Iran, but this is quite interesting. Especially given that South Africa forms part of BRICK).

DEPUTY President Kgalema Motlanthe's partner, Gugu Mtshali, has been implicated in soliciting a R104-million "bribe" to obtain government support for a South African company trying to clinch a R2-billion sanctions-busting deal with Iran.

It does get worse...

The plan, which ultimately collapsed, would have seen a politically connected South African front company, set up by 360 Aviation, win a five-year contract worth at least R450-million a year to supply US-made Bell helicopters and parts to the National Iranian Oil Company.
Crucially, aviation experts say, many Bell spare parts can be used in Iranian attack helicopters, potentially bolstering Iranian military firepower. The new deal would also have led to South Africa violating its UN Security Council obligation: a 2010 resolution prohibited member states from supplying military-related products.

Kgalema Motlanthe has now said that we wants the claims investigated, apparently the newspaper who reported on the matter has recordings of the conversation when the bribe took place. Seems like a pretty solid case.

I sure hope the US doesn’t try this to start their shift with South Africa. The air-force can barely keep their 15 high tech jets in the sky, let alone train the pilots to fly them.

We may have assisted in designing some of the first nukes but that’s about as far as it goes. The Rooivalk on the other hand…

These Bell helos would be rangers would they?
There are a ton of bell jet rangers in the world that are civilian choppers and hardly military gear....
The whole sanction trip is stupid anyways....Doesnt the west see that it drives those on the outside together to help each other out through back channels...? because they cannot trade with anyone else....
F%^&*^ING stupid!
The great leaders of america look the proper fools next to some of these foriegn leaders....US foriegn policy is a shambles of bullydom, and little else in the way of intelligent responses to other world goverments....Their people or their real needs.....
