Military-Style 'Psy Ops' Applied To Manage Public Relations and Media Concerns About Fracking

This is from November 2011 but it's important nonetheless. It underscores the insane lengths to which corporate America will go to get what it wants.

It was a gathering of professionals to discuss “media and stakeholder relations” in the hydraulic fracturing industry — companies using the often-controversial oil and gas extraction technique known as “fracking.”

But things took an unexpected twist.

CNBC has obtained audiotapes of the event, on which one presenter can be heard recommending that his colleagues download a copy of the Army and Marine Corps counterinsurgency manual. That’s because, he said, the opposition facing the industry is an “insurgency.”

Another told attendees that his company has several former military psychological operations, or “psy ops” specialists on staff, applying their skills in Pennsylvania.

Remember this article when fracking comes to your county and meetings are held to espouse its safety and tout the jobs it will provide. They view you as insurgents.

Insurgents WTH!? For having concerns and doubts about the impact and safety of fracking. God forbid a citizen get in the way of profit.

They have no problem using military style information warfare tactics to influence your communities. In the USA - not a theater of war.

It's not hard to imagine that a corporation that has this sort of mindset about the opposition would carry it to the inevitable next step. I mean if they choose to view it as war, war does have it's casualties...

Good post. Those greedy so-and-sos don't care who suffers, as long as their bottom line remains profitable. I used to live near an area in the DFW area of Texas that had cancer clusters related to natural gas drilling and fracking. Chesapeake Gas denies the link and keeps drilling and fracking.

What they are doing is an obscene crime against humanity. No wonder they are getting trained creeps from the military to fool people into accepting this poisoning. They don't care about innocent people overseas, and they don't even care about their own fellow citizens.

Gotta love the crafty energy industry. Hey we're getting off light. We'll only get crippling illness and flammable water out of the deal. In other parts of the world you get shot in the face if you get in the way of the fossil fuel hoarding mechanism.
