Pathetic.

Not curiosity...innocence. How remarkable: innocence is now a crime.

Lol, no 7 year old understands racism. What a ridiculas notion.

Children are inqusitive and ask questions, that is all that happened here. I cant believe a little chap was branded a racist for asking a valid question.

Some people in power are seriously menatlly insane.

I am going to be shot down in flames for this but here goes.

Members ask how a 7 Year old can be racist. Easy enough to pick up this behaviour if it occurs within the home or the area the individual lives in.

Where do you think children learn to use homophobic words

They learn it from their parents.

No one is going to tell me it does not happen because it does.

How can a child be racist? Their brain hasn't even fully developed yet. Plus what the boy said wasn't even discriminatory in any way. He wanted to know why some people are darker than others. It is a legitimate question if you are 7.

People should be able to believe what they want, you can't police ideas. Europe seems to go overboard with the hate speech/thought crimes.

It is a legitimate question at any age to want know why humans are so different ? The act of this school is shameful and if I was in charge of that school district they would be searching for new jobs .

For a child to learn, they need to ask questions and it's pretty sad here that if you ask a question you will only be penalized for it. That's not helping them learn anything but ignorance of the education system. Now the child is labeled for life? What has this world come to? Our society needs a complete re-vamp of humanity.

The attitudes and hang-ups of parents go a long ways to foster resentment and racial strife,imo..watch any group of tiny kiddies at play, every one plays together and mostly gets along, race, religion and gender dont seem to be a barrier for open, curious little minds and innocent hearts to connect.Any and every notion of racism/sexism,religious intolerance, concepts of division between people based on different faith,race,etc-the little ones get it from the adults that raise them. All a small child sees,is a buddy to play and have fun with..for adults to interfere with that,is obscene and in my mind, grievous sin.

UK ctizens are sick to the back teeth of Political Correctness - it has become ridiculous, to the extreme.

I expect that soon our children will be branded as budding sex offenders or perverts when they inevitably ask where babies come from.

This is ridiculous, a child cannot be racist. No one is BORN as a racist.

What that child asked is a simple question of curiosity. Instead of a teaching moment, it was turned into ignorance.

yes and the boy that was accused is telling the truth coz kids dont lie? convenient i can almost guarantee that they were not the words he used are u brown coz ure from Africa no way he said something different ..
he went home lied to mommy and daddy about the facts .. they rang the paper outraged of course .. (21 years of racial abuse and counting ) kids are the worst for it ... and so if there trying to stamp out racism does not make them stupid or am i missing something?

how can you possibly "guarantee" that, and you talk about people being "stupid"- or how about the "non white" kid lied, is that a possibility

FFS just kids, give over

This is the way the world turns.
Don't Ask Questions.
Do as You are Told.
Don't Think.
Move Along People, Nothing To See Here.

If it were me, I would have screwed that letter up and thrown it back at them.

You are speaking the truth. Whether the child understands is another matter entirely.

Racists beget racists. No one comes out of the womb hating people, it is taught by ignorant adults.

You can't knock a young kid like that it's just not right. It reminds me of my nephew when he was around 5 yrs old. He and my sister were standing in line at the bank and in typical young kid fashion (louder than the environment he was in) he asked my sister why the man in front of them was dirty. Needless to say everyone in line had a good chuckle and I am pretty sure most understood the innocence in the question.

Some of you guys needs to step out of the black and white world

My 4 year old daughter started school, she has never heard a racist comment in this house, nor would she be in the company of any adult making racist remarks- there is one asian girl in her class, she came home and said she does not like Brown people one day- we just gently talked to her in general about anyone being picked on (rather than focussing on some notion of racism) and she gradually stopped saying it

More than 20,000 pupils aged 11 or younger were put on record for so-called hate crimes such as using the word ‘gaylord’.

WTH is going on in the UK? I've read about this before, like kids can even get branded racist if they don't like spicy food etc. Mass immigration and the resulting political correctness have made the country insane.

If you mean step out into the real world, then I would suggest I already have.

If you have not witnessed children at the age of 6 or 7 coming out with homophobic remarks or racist remarks then maybe it is you that should come out of the world which is black and white as you put it.

I have witnessed for myself Adults, not just children but adults, receiving homophobic abuse from children at that age. And when the parents are confronted with regards to their child's actions. The parents are just as bad.

So it does happen in the home. And they are a percentage of parents who are to blame for this, and not the child.

The world's gone mad. I'd have ripped that piece of paper up and thrown it in their laps. The wee boy might be interested in Africa. He might be interested for any reason. Kids ask questions and that should never be stamped on.

DON'T COMPLY WITH THE MADNESS, PEOPLE!

A child innocently saying "she does not like brown people" because their appearance may confuse or scare her is quite different from a child who would say "I hate *insert racist nonsense*". Lets not be ridiculous now.
