Why do some people have prophetic dreams? What does it mean?

I don't know how many people have experienced it. I have on a few occasions, but my husband says he hasn't. However, he rarely remembers his dreams, but I usually remember mine, quite vividly, and even keep a journal of the most amazing ones.

I'm not psychic, yet I've had dreams that come true. But sometimes they are completely meaningless, and I wonder, why am I even having them? You would think a prophetic dream would be about something huge or meaningful, but sometimes mine are random.

I'll give you two examples. In one dream a few years ago, I saw myself getting into a car accident. I hit another car and crushed their passenger side door. Then I woke up, didn't think much of it, and left the house to run some errands. As I was turning into the store, a speeding car driving in the shoulder to try and get around traffic came out of nowhere and slammed into me, crushing my passenger side door. I looked around and realized, I had just had a dream the night before, from the other driver's perspective.... it weirded me out for a long time after that. That was the most meaningful one I've has so far, because that accident could have been avoided if I'd somehow known I was dreaming of the future.

My second example if of the least meaningful one I've ever had. I'm driving in my car, down my neighborhood and there are tons of people all over the place walking in the streets. It was an odd scene for a normally quiet street. This little boy in a bright yellow shirt was riding his bike right down the center of the street and he caught my eye. He was the only thing that really stood out to me. Well a few days after having that dream, I'm riding in that exact spot, in my car, and I see the scene exactly like it was in my dream, including the little boy in the vivid yellow shirt riding his bike. Freaked me out, but like my dream, nothing of any importance happened that day. So I was left feeling like, what was the point? What's the point of dreaming the future when nothing is happening in it?

So I'm thinking that other people experience this, and I'm guessing the ones who are prone to remembering their dreams every night are the one's most likely to have experienced this. So what is it, and why does it happen? Makes you think there is much more to dreams than is normally thought, and that we should spend more time investigating these types of events. There may be so much more to our brains than we realize.

Nothing prophetic here, just fragments and often I don't remember them like your guy. The last one I can remember is horrible. My teeth crumbled. Not so bad you might think, only it felt like a horror film as the amount of debris literally spewing out of my mouth uncontrollably was far greater than the mass of materials comprising my teeth. I think I woke up with an open mouth trying to expel all the crumbled matter as quickly as possible but it didn't help at all. Aaarrrggh!

You're a very intuitive and receptive person. My guess is you have a lot of synchronicities in your life as well.

So what's the point? Learning. Learning to trust your intuition, and yourself. Those meaningless dreams aren't meaningless. They are educational. Keep writing those dreams down, and keep paying attention. The point will be clear in time.

Like people are saying... there IS more to your brain. there IS more to your life. Pursue it, but do it for the right reasons. While some feel inclined to try to market such things and then wind up not being able to vouch for their abilities, some realize that it may be possible that instead, it is for revealing more about our true selves and our lives... our world.

The more people become super receptive, the less strife I honestly believe there will be.

I've had quite a number of them, they all seem to have in some ways involved periods where I was in some type of dangerous situation, or under an amount of stress. Personally, I'm religious, so I just take them as messages/signs from God.

I'll tell you one. When I was learning to scuba dive, I actually dreamed my whole final dive the night before I went. Right down to my assigned dive partner bringing along a friend. I had never been to that dive location before, or since, yet I saw it in great detail. Your final dive is the one where they make you do all the more dangerous stuff, like emergency assents. To make matters worse, there was very low visibility that day, and because I was the most comfortable one with diving/swimming, the instructor had put me at the back to make sure no one got lost. Not a big problem except that the person I was partnered with was not a strong swimmer, nor that comfortable with diving yet. I had a lot of Daja'vu that day, believe me.

Anyway, I also don't know how to take these types of dreams. Maybe they are just to help you cope with certain situations when they come up.

The teeth falling out dream! I've had that one more times than I can count. Did you know that's one of the most common dreams people have. It's supposed to mean that you think your unattractive in some way. We all have our insecurities, so I guess that's why it's such a common dream. Hate when I have those. You'd think after all this time I would go lucid when I have them, but I haven't yet. (I also have lucid dreams from time to time but I haven't mastered controlling them yet.)

Maybe so. But it makes me so curious about the human brain/mind. Imagine what we haven't discovered yet about ourselves. If random prophetic dreams about nothing are just a part of our evolving brain in it's infancy, imagine how powerful we may become thousands or millions of years from now.... if we make it that far anyway.

I've definitely had strange moments, or coincidences that have stood out in my life. Just before there is a major life change, I can usually feel it coming. This strong feeling that something big is on it's way, a major change about to happen. Intuition I guess. It's happened a few times, but always during major crossroads in my life. The big ones, the ones that change your direction. The last one I had was 9 years ago, just before I quit my job and went off to start a business on my own. I had no idea at the time that a future like that was waiting for me, because the event that catipolted it hadn't happened yet. But I was at work at my crumby job, walking from the stock room back into the store and right when I crossed the doorway it hit me. I stopped dead in my tracks. I KNEW what that feeling was and I said out loud to my coworker "My life is about to have a HUGE change." He looked at me like I was nuts, let me tell you!
But only a few months later, I quit my job and started planning a business. So far so good. Every year is better than the one before and I can't imagine my life never having gone in this direction now. But I very easily could have missed it because it was one tiny moment in one insignificant day that put me in that direction and changed my life forever.

Ok, wow.... the whole intuition thing deserves a thread of it's own. But now you got me thinking, what if they are related, intuition and prophetic dreaming. Intuition is a feeling, and prophetic dreams are more visual, but they both are trying to tell you something.

The version I heard was that it was a fear of loss of control (over some aspect of life or its situations) but regardless, this was not a simple teeth falling out scenario. It was like several hundred gallons of dry powder was streaming out of my mouth uncontrollably. No way my teeth contain that much substance.

In REAL life sure, but this was a dream and sometimes dreams are weirder than fiction.

I have a giant dream interpretation book that i use sometimes, as well as internet research to try and help me decode dream symbols. I've come across the teeth falling out dream many times and it's normally listed as appearance issues, while dreams about tornadoes are more about the turmoil and stress of loss of control in your life. The feeling as though it's all "spinning out of control". But I can't claim anything as fact since dream interpretation is just my hobby, not my profession, and it's often the case to find conflicting results anyway.

Divine nature... It may have to do with the collective rather than an individual.

I know the answer to this. The time/space continuum already exists in its entirety.

The track that a perons'sl ife is on is like an old vinyl record or a DVD. It already exists completely.
You watch a DVD pretending it is happeing in some linear order, but the entire story is already on the DVD. This is exaclty like the illusion of living.

When you have a prophetic dream that is in such detail and it feels real, this is because you jumped ahead on the track and you got to see something a little ahead of time.

Do not be afraid of this.

It can be mostly very not improtant stuff. However, what this teaches you is that time is relative and is not a fixed thing.

Every human can access the timeline in advance or from the past.

The dreamers that are so good at doing this do it easily and yes it is amazing and stupid that what we see for the future are things that are basic and not of much consequence. But, they come true exactly as the dream shows this and this teaches you something

You might have a really important dream as a warning.

You may not even be able to change anything, but you can decide to change your own actions. These are the ones that are the most helpful.

Do you think being able to glimpse moments from the track is a gift (as in the glimpse is being gifted to you by a "higher" being) or is it the viewer's skill...or just something that sometimes happens? Or some other causation?

Me too a few times. Just last week in the morning just before waking. I dreamt that I walked into my living room and my front door was wide open. I turned and looked toward the sofa to ask my husband what was going on and his friend Jack was sitting next to him.
I was surprised because Jack and his wife Jill ( you can't make this stuff up) just got separated and Jack moved a state away.

I told my husband when I woke up that I'd dreamed about his lost buddy.

Later that day Jack came back to pick up some tools.

It's true they are usually mundane.
I dreamt of two men standing on an ornate iron bridge. One man spilled a green vile of liquid into the water.
People started getting sick. In the dream I knew the bridge was in Europe.
A week later some lab in Belgium accidentally spilled some polio virus into a river. No one got sick but sickness was spilled.
Nothing I could do but I dreamed it anyway.

Another time I dreamed of people dressed up and at a boxing match. They were screaming and running. Someone threw a Mexican hat into the boxing ring.
The next day I read that some Mexican drug gang had invaded a house they thought belonged to some rivals and shot the place up. They had the wrong house. The house where they went the people were having a party and had gathered to watch an important boxing match on tv.

Again how could I know my weird dream meant anything?

I'm sure there's some science that can explain it. Some quantum physics thingy about non local communication or something.
It happens that's all I know.

I like this description of relativity...
Five minutes labor can seem like an eternity while five minutes of kissing is fleeting.
It's all relative. LOL

Yep. I had a feeling of dread in the weeks leading up to 911 .
I thought it was an approaching hurricane because I've had that feeling before hurricanes a few times. Once six months ahead. I told hubby hurricane Floyd was going to be a problem for us in March. We were badly flooded in Sept by hurricane Floyd.
In 2001 I was online searching the Atlantic for developing storms . It was hurricane peak season so it was possible. The Atlantic was clear all the way to cape Verde Africa. Amazingly clear. The Caribbean was clear.
But the feeling resisted. I even thought someone I knew might be sick or in trouble or dying...
I knew people in the trade center as I worked in the air freight forwarding trade out of Kennedy airport when I was younger and those businesses had their ocean freight business in downtown Manhattan. I never had the guts to actually check the list though.

Oh in case anyone is interested I'm pretty good at picking a paying slot machine too.
No hugh jackpots but one that will let you play and then take your money and a little more home.
I once went into a casino in Delaware at 4:30 in the afternoon with twenty bucks and left at 5:15 with $270.00
