More interesting theories from you, Sy.
Is it just possible that these wonder weapons were just ideas/theories simply to boast the German morale?
The US reports and any UK ones, could have been issued to fool the Germans into putting resources into something that did not work (Or did not work
that well), rather than more successful projects?
A common tactic at that time.
If they had been so successful where are they not in use now, or are they?
Without doubt not only did this nuclear technology exist, but so too did several sophisticated delivery systems, rockets, planes and cruise missiles
The answer to your question is actually political.
Hitler was threatened with nuclear attack and with Anthrax in July-August 1944.
In the midst of this was the 20 July 1944 bomb plot against Hitler and an attempted military coup, Operation Valkarie. The SS however apparently
stayed loyal and put down the coup. In August 1944 the SS used the opportunity to take over all secret nuclear, rocket and aviation projects.
The loyalty of the SS however had an ulterior motive. Himmler was trying to better position himself so he could oust Hitler and negotiate an armistice
with the Western Allies to permit Germany to continue fighting the Soviets. The Western Allies however would not negotiate with Himmler, but were
interested in dealing with Hitler.
On 14 April 1945 SS Lt General Karl Wolf visited Hitler and Himmler with Lt Gen Dr Hans Kammler to discuss Operation Sunrise. Wolf was complimented on
his handling of the Allies by Hitler therefore Hitler was not unaware of Sunrise. This astonished me when I first read of it.
Now back to your question...
The SS from August 1944 had full control of the nuclear weapons project. Hitler was scrambling to negotiate with London through Roumanian Opposition
forces to avert nuclear and Anthrax attacks.
Schumann & Trinks were told by the SS to stop all work on the Nazi nuclear bomb in July 1944.
The public had been told in early 1944 that new super weapons were just around the corner and these would turn the war around for Germany. The
propaganda continued for the German people, but in private the Nazis were courting London and Washington.
For Hitler's benefit the SS continued work on various projects since the technology was for them a bargaining chip.
The Western Allies dreaded such technology finding it's way into Soviet (communist) control.
The one threat Hitler had left was to do a deal with Stalin and allow this technology and his best scientists to go to the Soviets.
Hitler also baited both eastern and western Allies trying to cause disunity and conflict between them. Thus Hitler engineered the start of the Cold
I personally suspect the SS stalled on deployment and use of such systems against the Soviets and right up until 27 April when Hitler ordered the
arrest of Himmler and Kammler, I believe Hitler expected nukes to be used against the Soviets.
