quick question/need quick response..

We are going to have a hard frost tonight..

We have 3 new trees (pear, cherry, plum)
Two apple trees in the ground 2 years

ONLY the plum has flowers

Do we cover all of them or just the one flowering?

Cover them.

If its a hard frost and they are young trees i would cover them all. Just be sure to remove it tomarrow if its suppose to warm up.

Cover them all, immediately. A hard frost will kill the branches and leaves. A hard freeze will kill the tree if it is young. The weird thing is we have bromiliads around our driveway and during the hard freezes here in the sub-tropics, they survive without cover. I am fairly convinced the stones around them hold the daylight heat enought to stop them from freezing, even when we had a 4 day hard freeze. By all means, cover your plants.

For late hard frost...I use old sheets for covering, then plastic on top. Never had a problems with that. I use the plastic over the sheets in case if somehow rains. Wrap the trunks on young flowering trees.

Thanks for the replies..

I took some blankets out and covered the tops but the blankets weren't big enough to reach all the way down the trunk..I hope they won't die but we have used all the extra blankets we own for this and have nothing else to cover them with.

The blankets seem like they are bending the trees over..is this okay?
