I've been doing searches for 15 minutes now and for the life of me I cannot find which verse you're referring to that condemns internet usage.

Can you help?

No I was just curious. Some people really get involved with there posts with scriptures. Like, I mean, word for word. But, isn't the internet suppose to be a temptation of the devil?

But being tempted isn't a sin, Christ was tempted. Acting out on temptations is sin.

I have to warm up my coffee some before I tell you what I
think about this thread...I'll be back

I'M BACK!!

It depends on what you are doing on the internet. If you are
looking at porn sites, that's a sin,if you are gambling online,
that's a sin,if the internet is distracting you from your christian
duties,that's a sin.
I have the KJV Bible on my computer along with the koran.I
send emails to my children.I look up things to prepare for SHTF,
I pester all of you here on ATS.In my opinion, these are not sins.

That last one is mama, want me 2 pray 4 you?

but isn't playing on the internet considered to be a true sin?

Yep, you are right. Our holy books have explicitly warned us against using the internet.... and here we are.... doing just that.

Also, I'd like to point out that the OP has unearthed a TRUE conspiracy in religion.
He has brought to light something that religious folks have been hiding for thousands of years... the commandment to avoid the use of the internet.

Thread of the year.

Well that is fairly obvious. The entire OP is based off the false premise that the internet is a sin.
May i recommend a red ball? It bounces when you throw it and it is a whole lot less confusing.

Most religons pick and choose what to follow and how to interpet things thats why they all hate each other because they are all right

So, I was wrong. Thought the internet fell into the 7 deadly sins. I just looked and it doesn't fall into the categories. Oh well.

waiting for the next doom and gloom thread.

And we won't be able to help you.

Jesus died for us so we could use the internet, how cool is that?

Taking a break...

I don't think playing around on the internet is a sin. But who knows... there are a lot of churches that have totally gone off the deep end and don't preach the true word.

Ah, yes, you all get a free pass. Just like God forgot about all of the poor souls your descendents murdered during the inquisition? You are mistaken, friend. How cool is that?

First, there seems to be a note of anger or disdain in your premise and OP.

Next, the Internet is a medium... a means of communication, much like a letter, printing press, a telephone or cell phone, or telegraph... that is all. How it is used determines the nature of that medium.

If one is a religious person, and with the mention of Bibles... I assume you mean Christian, then no... the internet is not sinful unless we make it sinful. If one is tempted to dwell on porn and lusts when they sign onto the net... yes, it is sinful. And should be avoided. Likewise, if a trip to the beach means you just sit there and oogle all the women aor men as they pass by... that is sinful, and likewise should be avoided.

However, if your self control and spiritual strength is such that the net is merely a means of communication... by all means use it. Chritians are to be in control of their nature and we need God's help at times to do so. That does not mean we are backward or iggnorant and fearful of technology or interacting with non-believers.

Many of the people here at ATS that proclaim Christianity and profess it, do so usually after a vitrollic accusation or generalization... such as..

Isn't the internet a sin, Why are Christians on the net? Shouldn't you be reading your Bibles 24/7?

I am little confused here.

You have these righteous religious people posting on the forum and all but isn't playing on the internet considered to be a true sin? A so called temptation of the devil? Just like gambling is a sin, playing the lottery is a sin. ??? Are you not suppose to be reading your bibles 24/7 a day and trying to convert others? Or, you just catching up with the times with the social-networking?

So, truly, you can't all be that religious and you are just all posers. Which is it?

I'm just curious.

Is "religious" synonymous to "perfect" in your mind? Or is every religious person supposed to be a perfect religious person, in your mind? Well honey(I assume you're a girl), nobody is perfect. A lot(read: most) of people quoting scriptures probably don't understand what they are quoting or can't relate it to today's world. Others, such as yourself, have not read the books, yet still assume the world. There's nothing wrong with reading, you know that right?

Well, many in here seem to have the wrong impression of what Sin is, and where the word originated, but, I digress. I think it is funny sometimes myself. A good meaning Christian come in the forum, thinks to themselves that being as they are now Christian, everyone else needs to be Christian too. This is basic cult mentality.
Then comes to pitch to the members, along with plenty of Bible quotes to back up the premise, and perhaps a little personal testimony, attesting how God/Jesus healed/blessed some person because of prayer, and some even think they now know just what God/Jesus is thinking all the time, and that [they] are now God's personal messenger and spokesperson.

Then comes the History lessons, and the replies from Atheists and others, and the rebuttals, and all of these are then quickly labels, and assigned to a dark and sinister place in the Christian's mind as they struggle to convince people smarter, and better educated than they that this is the ONLY WAY they are going to get away from the terrible conflagration and war coming......and very SOON.

When all this fails, the Christian, backed by the other Christians on the board, begin to show their true selves in stark relief. The Insults begin, followed by the name calling of other members. Then the Mods slip in, see the infighting, and shut down the thread for review.

I have seen a great many good, in depth threads go this way, and it is sad that the Religious folk even act like this.

To sum up, looking at Sin in the way a Christian does, I do not think it wrong for a Christian to use the Internet, but to delve into these Conspiracy Boards and spread their dogmatic rhetoric, and stale religion, along with lying, labelling others, calling people names, demonizing anything not in the Book, and insulting people just because the others do not agree...... well it may not be a sin, but is certainly is a wrong think to do. Christians are not supposed to fight, or insult anyone, and they are supposed to be like their God, loving and kind, and accepting of all things.

It depends,

If you're using the internet for selfish financial gain, it's a sin

If you're using to play facebook and games and be entertained but lazy all the time, it's a sin

If you're using it to watch porn and touch yourself, it's a sin

If you're using it for work, or to get the news, or to check your email or handle personal affairs, it's not a sin

If you're using it to glorify God or to study God or read His Word, it's not a sin

Atleast this is how I look at it!

Amen
