Hi there everyone, this is my first post here on ats and i just wanted to make it brief and report that there was a 7.1 earthquake in VANUATU on Friday, March 09, 2012 at 07:09:54 UTC. There was recently a thread HERE predicting that there would be an earthquake within 40 hours due to the solar storm we just had. lol im not linking it in any way but.. "just saying" here is the link to the USGS website 7.1 USGS Link

Thank you all,

I just saw that on the Live Earthquakes map and remembered the thread about an earthquake prediction within forty hours.
Any tsunami warning associated with the quake?

I know im pretty neutral on the whole debate on whether solar storms inflict earthquake here on earth but after this event ..im somewhat being pushed into believing it. Granted it is 2:44am right now and im half asleep so i still need more time to mull over the data. As of right now there are no tsunami warnings.. here is the link to keep an eye on tsunami risk link

Thank you for your quick tsunami warning reply you just beat me to it ..

UPDATE from what i consider a reliable source Reuters

So far Reuters is stating everyone is safe with no damage being reported as of yet. God bless them

Yea u beat me to it as well, and since that other dude predicted this I think we can somewhat attribute earth quakes to solar storms at least a little now

I think there will be a stronger one. We will see...

I got the alarm on my phone , It's 37km deep so it's benign.

It's very possible that a larger earthquake can happen its anyones guess.. well... maybe everyone except that guy who predicted this earthquake.

UPDATE: Rather small 4.8 earthquake hit Vanuatu just now. Things are a ringing down in the Pacific as we speak. earthquake.usgs.gov...

I wish them all the best over there.

As for the prediction???

Welllll, I suppose it could be true, but Vanuatu had a 7.1 EQ not long ago, (Feb 2nd this year) so I'm leaning to co-incidence.

Nice, was looking at iris about two hrs ago and there was nothing significant. What I find weird is, I started feeling a migraine coming on maybe an hour or so ago. Right about the same time this thread popped up. I wouldn't be astonished if solar flares and/or cmes can have an effect on the planets functionality. I don't think these flares are the cause of the earthquakes but I could see them being a trigger if geologic stresses are high in an area.

Actually on January 26 there was another pretty large flare. I'll search for a link to source.

Eta: my bad, it was the 27, here you go.

Someone made an earthquake prediction about two days ago, suggesting there is a link between solar storms and earthquakes. Cant find it in search? Looks like he/she was right!

Bingo!

Next big earthquake in less than 40 hours!

Wow! I was keeping my eyes on the threads after that EQ prediction the other day here - I was so in hopes the author of the prediction would be wrong (for peoples sake) but I'm very happy for his/her sake they were right!

WOW - great job.

Prayers for those who're effected by this quake!

peace

Interesting as this side of the planet was also sun-facing when the flare was said to strike.

That's. .4 magnitude decrease over initial magnitude estimate.

The shake map shows "moderate" to "strong" shaking which translates to "very light" to "light" potential damage.

Good thing that this is not a statistical measurement...otherwise we could cut that 7.1 in half!

Still...a 6.7 is a pretty good shaker!
