Fair is fair. Don't go out and bring your vehicle when you are going to be drinking. You don't have the right to endanger other people like that.

Although the 30 years is a bit much, unless somebody got hurt, but that's the only problem I see.

So must we all cary around an alchohol test unit to test if our driver is drunk or else we are responcible for their actions? Rediculas. You may as well also arrest the bar tender, alchohol distributer, alchohol company and the law makers who signed the laws making alchohol consumption legal. Were if anywhere does personal responcibility stop? How can she tell if someone else is drunk is she a doctor or subriety officer or something?

Sorry for the all caps friend, but if you go out drinking WITH somebody, guess what, THEY HAVE BEEN DRINKING.

Doesn't take a rocket science to remember what they've been doing for the last few hours.

My god, that's the most circular logic I've EVER seen I swear. Why would you arrest those who made the product? Or served it? They didn't make them drink a whole bunch and then decide to take to the streets.

It's her car, her boyfriend, she clearly knew he was drunk, they were together drinking.

This is poor form all around. The article says "knowingly hands over keys to a drunk person" but someone who is drunk has poor judgement. Its like temporary insanity. The real issue is neither should have driven and a cab should've escorted them home. This however is the boyfriends fault, he should've said no I'm to drunk to drive. Just poor form by the gov, but those private prisons just gotta be filled! 30yrs worth of this poor girl is some $.
Initially this reminded me of an episode of a show about Cops going after street racers. A man was to drunk to drive to he sat in his car and passed out. The cop wanted to be where his car was to hide from the street racers and ambush them. No cars had been in any of the parking spots, but the cop arrested the guy in the car for being drunk (and not driving!) and was mad the key hadn't been in the ignition so he couldnt tag him for drunk driving. Wtf is going on in this world?

Actually that is not entirely true.

I go out "drinking" often with some of my friends, and I end up drinking water or soda. I also usually end up being the person to drive. Just because you go out with someone drinking does not always mean they are drinking too.

Secondly, she was responsible enough to know she was not able to drive. Her boyfriend was not. She was not behind the wheel, he was. She did not drive that car into 2 people. He did. She did drive that car into a taxi cab, he did. He should be charged, not her.

Sadly it is an election year, so she will be made an example of just so some politician can claim that he is tough on crime and tough on drinking and driving and sadly, so many people will eat this up and agree without realizing what kind of slippery slope this is.

Really think about it.... where does it end when you can be criminally charged for the actions of another? Maybe next, we will start arresting parents whose adult children go out and rob a bank.

Exactly right. The dude needs to go to jail for a long time but she did nothing wrong by admiting she should not drive. The guy commited a crime. She had know way of knowing his condition.

This is actualy one hopeful instance of government for once having the sense God gave 'em.If all drunk drivers,and MOST ESPECIALY drivers that caused others deaths through their drunk driving,were punished in draconian ways,it may actualy go a long way to ending this crime.

The lawyer defending this woman may not feel like defending her as vociferously if his son had been one of the 2 young guys killed by these two selfish idiots.I have zero sympathy for this girl,or her boyfriend,my only sympathy is with the loved ones of the victims.If the mothers of the two drunk drivers at least tried to instill common sense in their children and it just did'nt take,i pity them too,for the stress and heartache they now also have.

No punishment will bring back the dead,that is true.But truly severe punishment,ACROSS THE BOARD,AND CONSISTENTLY meted out to drunk drivers,will eventualy drive home the point.This should have implemented a very long time ago.And im talking here life imprisonment/long sentences in the case of innocents killed by drunk drivers.At the end of the day they still murdered 2 people.Lets not forget that.

That is a disgrace also,she should have gotten life imprisonment.But two wrongs dont make a right.It was wrong to give a murderer such a short sentence,or to let her out before her original sentence was served.It would be just as wrong to not bear in mind that in this case 2 people got killed as a result of the actions of this girl and her boyfriend-and they do deserve severe punishment.Imo,if government were realy commited to wiping out,or at least to a large extent diminishing instances of drunk driving,they would have to use drastic measures,like long/life sentences.and be seen to enforce these.
Believe me,im no great lover of my own government,or the American one,but seeing as they are there,they may as well make themself useful by protecting the public against those who act with selfish disregard for others lives and safety.
