I would agree on all but the last line... You might want to check the stats on that one...

I think you touched on a very important point, and in many ways that is the reason why AA was put in place in the beginning. I don't agree with AA, but at the same time I do not fool myself to believe that minorities aren't discriminated against today, because they are.

Discrimination implies three things:

1) Someone in power with the ability to chose (interviewer, home/property owner, club president etc.).
2) Someone wishing to gain entry; applicant.
3) Not being chosen for reasons (skin color, religion, sexual preference etc..) not having to do with the subject matter.

There is nothing wrong with having pride for your race, if you are white then have pride and same goes for any race. But also have pride in tolerance and acceptance. It's good to understand the need to live in the present and forget past transgressions, but it is also important to have empathy and awareness that the past has a direct hand in the present and future.

Simply saying "get over it, I never owned any slaves" trivializes the degree of damage done to people that have had their roots taken from them. But at the same time saying "the white people keep me down" does nothing to remedy the problem. Like I said before this is a very complex issue and IMO is directly tied to our way of life - socially, economically and governmentally, along with past actions that hasn't truly been healed.

Whites were slaves too, endentured, life long slaves. This is one of the biggest reasons whites left Britain. Blacks owned black slaves also, sometimes it was to save the lives of their friends and family. But sometimes, they just owned slaves like any white person.

Money changes people, what they might not be okay with at one monetary level, they are at another. People are people, and it's sad that anyone would life off the hard work and pain of another.

This is incidentally why forced redistribution of wealth is an unjust system. Why should some of us slave and labor only to have our wealth confiscated by Big Brother and given to others because ostensibly they are worse off than me?

I think it's very easy to dismiss the idea that white people may feel discriminated against- it may be one of the easiest claims to dismiss, ever. But, we need to look deeper than just a knee-jerk, surface approach. Especially when it comes to white youth. They are told it's not OK to be proud of your heritage, they're told that they don't receive the same government help, and they're told that they cannot use racist slang, but it's OK for those of other races to call them racist names.

We have a whole socio-economic-ethnic class that feels very disenfranchised, and are unable to express it without being reprimanded. I am talking about young white males. And yes, males especially. If we continue not to address this, and if we continue special treatment for minorities, we're going to have a problem.

Equality means equality across the board.

This whole topic should be embarrassing to Americans, one of the most diverse Countries in the world. You would think that, at one point, people would stop blaming others for things that happened generations ago, and move forward. That is the only way we can get past this racial divide.

Maybe it's easier for me because I know true history. Knowledge is power. Google "True American slave history". You might be surprised by what you find.

I only keep bringing this up because this seems to be the center issue of racism in this country.

The biggest oppressors of whites are anti-whites. They are miserable liberals that somehow were convinced they are racially guilty, and go out of their way to spread this mindset on other whites. And the people that started ALL OF THIS crap, and who run the world, look white, but be assured, they ARE NOT. All the horrible things these people did to non-whites, they do to whites as well. It is a common enemy nobody likes to talk about, but they profit greatly on the racism and AA market.

Everyone needs to put the PC point scale to the side for a minute and wake up to this glaring fact.

What if we had "White History Month" and National Association for the Advancement of WHITE People?

I was waiting for someone to finally bring this up... Why not make a White Entertainment Television then as well?

See the issue with this is IMO other non-white races look at "regular" as "white". Example... "Day time soaps are for white people", no there are for PEOPLE... I do not see why everything has to be labeled... So regular lawyer is a white lawyer? This thought process is garbage IMO. You don't have to agree but that's how I feel.

Exactly thats how YOU feel. Not how it is. Who the hell is labeling regular white????? Who the hell is saying that??? Nobody, just another case of projecting feelings out onto an issue to mislead others into siding one way or another.

You might want to check your ability to understand statisics. Just because number wise, more white people get government assistance, doesn't mean they get "more". You have to standardize the numbers, you can't do without the original data, to compare them relatively to get an accurate comparison. There are more white people in America, so of course that is going to skew the results.

I would just like to point out that at any time a black person can call me cracker, honky, whitey, snowflake, snowman, ahab, albino, blanco, blue-eyed devil, caveman, ghost...the list goes on, it's okay. People will just laugh it off.

But the first time I utter the N word(which is horribly outlawed) or any other racial term for a black man, suddenly I'm a racist monster who deserves to die or some other over-the-top insult. Why do we allow this double standard to exist?

I agree 100%. I don't think we'll change though, people are too greedy. They'd rather sacrifice the rights of others, so they can get "their's". Thats how it has always worked for all races, and sexes. We when we figure out that, it isn't going to work, which will probably be 100-200 years from now, it will end.

Without the double standard, we are all equal. Who the hell wants that? Especially if your the race/sex with all the power.

Last I checked this was still a free country where you can voice your opinion... which is what I did... deal with it... I never said that "This is how it is" now did I? Nope... BTW did you catch what IMO meant?

ollncasino,
I am going to be honest. I am a young white female, who years ago was basically forced to quit my job for fear of my life simply because I was white. I was working at a local JCPenneys, where there were quite a few more African American workers than Caucasian. My friends (using fake name ofcourse) Holly & Ashley both quit before me because of bullying in the work place, leading to physical bullying..On a daily basis we were bombarded with comments like "Little White Bitch" ,"stupid white hoe" quite of a few other nasty things I wont list. Getting to the point though, after toughing all of that out..watching my friends leaving left and right, I decided to stick with it, knowing I was in the running for management soon. Only to one day, literally pushed against my cash register for 'selling too many JCP credit cards, So the little white bitch thinks she's better than us.' Is what they took out of my accomplishments. After that, Loss Prevention caught the whole altercation on camera, the women proceeded to slash my tires in the work parking lot, ON CAMERA, also keyed LITTLE WHITE HOE into the side of my car. Then when fired upon the horrible things they had done..Sent their friends into JCP to kick the little white girls ass. 6 of them were arrested, terrible right? & Yes I was called these things and treated this way on a daily basis, from morning shift to night shifts, as were many others girls. Not to mention the work place is not the only place both races are racially profiled, it happens every where down here where I live. As if, they think I, a young 20 year old female had anything to do with the past that they experienced nothing of. I don't care if I get attacked for saying anything on this thread, because I WAS ATTACKED. Simply for being a "little white bitch" apparently. So it does happen. & Everywhere. Sorry about the horrible spelling, trying to sneak in a little ATS at work!
hehe!
Thanks for your post & share, I respect everyones opinion!

I have no idea why you are attacking me, but you must have a hard time reading because I never stated that I knew the stats, just that they might want to check on them... and I looked but couldn't find any results from this decade... If you can, I'm so happy for you... Now bug off...

but I do agree there are more white people in America so yes it would skew the results. Good point, but lay off the personal attacks and just state your points...

The "Pendulum" swang along time ago and continues to try and achieve an impossible goal.

I was in the US Coast Guard in 1979. I had been in 8 years and had applied for Officer Candidate School 4 times. I had the highest performance marks attainable and had perfect scores on all test along with the highest recommendations from base commanders and above. The "goal" of the Coast Guard at the time was to attain 18 percent minority representation in the officer ranks. Even though I scored a 98 out of 100 possible points, I was turned down as minorities were given 50 points to start off with and the lowest candidate chosen had a 125. Sad but I got out and had a successful career and retired the first time at 42 yrs old.

Are we all in agreement that discrimination and racism, though related, are not the same thing? Neither is prejudice and racism the same thing. Reading some posts on this thread, I'm not so sure that some can tell the difference.
