Magnitude 7 earthquakes occur with regularity in the Vanuatu region, as in at least a few times a year

Correct you are. Here's a 7.1 there a month ago...

There are an average of 16 earthquakes of 7.0 and greater annually. There have been 6 in the past 6 months. One of those (that one) occurred during a moderate geomagnetic storm. The others, nothing. So, of course, this earthquake was caused by the geomagnetic activity.

A classic case of the shower syndrome at work.

There are many theories out there concerning the relation of solar activity to earthquakes, but no real evidence other than statistics.

The statistics show that there is no evidence.

Multiple reportings of the same quake... no tsunami...

Toward the end of next week/beginning of the one after there very well could be a flare that will out class this last one by quite a bit... so keep an eye on that big glowing orb in seven to ten days for what should be one he... uh... spectacular show...

IDK, but a 7.1 is a bell ringer, that's for sure.
Although rather shallow at about 22 miles deep.

Wow, not bad. Predicted an earthquake in the specified time frame. Who cares whether or not the solar flares had anything to do with it. If the OP had said "I have this weird feeling, the hair on the back of my neck stood up, and I knew there'd be an earthquake.", would we go on for 8 pages about the climate and air conditioning system in his house?

Can't see the forest through the trees. He made a prediction. It came true. Enjoy it, it doesn't happen often around here.

Well done, OP!

Statistically there is about one 7+ earthquake every month.. so it could be just a coincidence.

I don't usually do this, but here goes a rough prediction I'm making for the next 40 hours based on the X-Flare our sun blew out early this morning.

Earthquake. Big one. Magnitude of 7.0 - 8.0. I can't pinpoint the epicenter but if we're lucky it won't effect major populated areas.

I'm not a fearmonger. This is just a prediction I made from a mix of statistics and a gut feeling that 2012 will be a shaky ride. So put on your seatbelts everybody, and enjoy the show.

All that is relevant is this... prediction was made between 7.0 and 8.0 within 40 hours...

7.1 within the time frame... there is no arguing the prediction played out period... it doesn't matter how frequently they occur in the region or blah blah blah and if it did the "big brains" should have stepped up and said "well you have to exclude Vanuatu because they get like one a month there"... since no one said that people should either admit they were wrong or shut up and move on... period...

Yup. He got it right.
With odds of about 10:1. You have a much harder time rolling snakeyes, but it happens.

Now, if he had said it would happen in Vanuatu....

Solar Storms DONT CAUSE EARTHQUAKES! Seriously come on man.

If a big earthquake happens in the next 2 days I will eat my hat.

Everyone has been trying to call this guy out on his prediction.. well folks he did it .. end of story. I don't care what the statistics/data say. The man gave a small 40 hour time frame and it came true.
