None of what you quoted there was direct at you, hence the reason it was posted above my response to you. I just figured it would be better to kill two birds with one stone by placing two separate posts in one and break it apart with the reply bar. All the text below the reply bar was a response to you; everything else was just me ranting at no one in particular.

I see it as rather disingenuous.

Politicians have been screwing people over since Noah was a freshman in high school.

Voting and speaking out for what you believe in, whether it be based in religion, equal rights or ecology, that's what politics is all about. Imposing, by force or by law, ones morality onto another, who doesn't share the sentiment, well that's another story, IMO.

Were they wrong? Yes because I believe in the Christian teachings on morality. I do not invent mine as time goes along, it is not to fit my views, I must alter my views to fit morality and discipline myself until achieving such a task. If you are looking for me to agree with anything in this modern secular hedonistic world hell bent on a crusade for equality, abstract rights, and free love, it is not going to happen. Those heathen Hawaiians were wrong.

Now, I do not like George W. Bush, the Neoconservatives, the Movement Conservatives, or Evangelical Protestants. I agree with Ron Paul on foreign policy issues. Those out looking for a holy war need not ask for my vote. There are no Republicans I support because they are all war mongering, capitalistic, and immoral frauds, who peddle religion to get votes.

Now, as you say we set out to civilize the world, we did and I applaud the White man for doing so. They brought the truth to the ignorant along with advances in medicine, food, and so on. Did they make many mistakes? Of course and there is no denying that. We could have been friendlier towards the Natives of the lands we conquered and shared more of our wealth with them. Lest we forget that it was the Conservatives or, Tories, who opposed further expansion into North America and actually befriended the American Indians (for example). During the 19th century it was the Conservatives who opposed the Louisiana Purchase in both parties and the Conservative (Whig Party) which opposed conquering Texas.

Not everyone was out on a crusade. Only a few European nations actually were overseas. My people for instance (Hungarians) were landlocked, fighting off Ottoman Muslim invasions. Christianity teaches man is a fallen creation prone to sinful acts, with the past of all peoples, I would say that is quite true.

It's totally inconceivable to me that premarital sex would even be an issue in the 21st century.

The GOP is completely insane.

I find it to be a good thing. Think about it. The SC GOP wants to make it part of the platform of their party to oppose pre-marital sex, then why would you want someone to run for office representing your party who has engaged in the act? Would that not constitute ‘do as I say, not as I do’ type of politics, or am I wrong? To me it makes sense since this is their party policy, why not bar hypocrites from running? I know, I know, you hate the party platform; but the OP was about the pledge.

I am willing to bet well over 50% of GOP party members have had premarital sex. The number is probably much higher than that.

The vast majority of GOP members don't put premarital sex at the center of their aspirations.

On the fringe of the GOP would insist on this as a policy.

I believe that the suppression of sexual expression is harmful to the human psyche. This need of the GOP to regulate sexual activity and impose morality from a Judeo-Christian point of view, is regressive. The bell has been rung, the genie isn't going back in the bottle.

Misoir, liberals don't see sex as a vouluntary act. They see as an invouluntary bodily function, akin to breathing, blinking, blaming Bush.

Because it shows a complete disconnect from reality. If you think people 30, 40, a hundred or a thousand years ago waited for marriage, think again. You don't override 5 million years of biological evolution because society demands it. It doesn't work that way.

What's the harm in premarital sex, anyway? It doesn't promote immorality. That is because some people choose to believe that sex is somehow dirty and something to be ashamed of. If you really feel that way, you're missing out on a big part of what it means to be human.

We are still animals and like all other animals we have a sex drive.

until about 100 years ago,
the average lifespan was about 30-40 years old,
and people got married in their mid-teens.

As average life-span has increased, adolescence has been prolonged dramatically- here in the US, it is well into the 20's now.
