Raising Amenhotep III's colossus

The statue was discovered in 2004, and recently raised using ancient techniques - muscle, rope, and some blocking.

A quartzite colossus of 18th Dynasty King Amenhotep III is to be raised on Luxor's west bank on Saturday .

The colossus was unearthed in 2004 by an Egyptian-European archaeological mission led by Horig Sourouzian during routine excavation work. It was 100 meters behind the gigantic colossi of Memnon which represent the same king at the main entrance of its temple. The colossus was half buried under Nile alluvia in seven pieces.

Wow, the article states that it is 13 meters tall...thats 42.65 feet for those of us that are metrically challenged

Thanks for that link, interesting comment about the 'singing' colossus...

They used 300 workers and kept to the same technology the ancient Egyptians had for moving monolithic blocks, which I think more than well illustrates you don't need modern cranes of anti-gravity or aliens to place a 250-ton monster block. Makes the 4-ton bluestones at Stonehenge look a lot more do-able doesn't it?

There is some discussion on what the actual weight is at another site (density of stone, etc) if they come up with anything earth shattering I'll note it here

Funny you say that. I went 2 years ago to Egypt en took some pictures of just discovered statue's.
They removed the little women.

The place reminded me, and search for the pictures.
I am correct, look at the mountain behind same shape.

This must be that woman. I took that picture not far away from there. I believe this was across the nile at close to the valley of the kings

Now this looks awesome if they can find the other half. Considering there is only one leg/foot, he would be sitting on the throne and I predict the final size would be nearly double the 13mt ( that is by the time the crown of Upper & Lower Egypt is calculated in )

Both of those photos are heavily photo shopped. I don't know why, but they are defiantly not real.

I just hope many of our fellow ATS'ers see this thread so they can see what was / is actually possible instead of the usual dismissal of human acheivements and cries of it must have been the little green men!

Looking at the lack of stars and flags though, i doubt it - it p***** on too many bonfires for that to happen!
