just that...
Google: "what is the" .. and the first auto-complete that Google will give you is "what is the illuminati"

check it out...

and of course.. right up there with the Meaning of LIfe and the Dow Jones Average.. ...trending now is the Cinnamon Challenge... (what the hell ever)...

Is it REALLY because the number one question people type into Google that begins with "what is the" is "what is the Illuminati"

OR is Google purposely suggesting this in order to more popularize the term and educate people into understanding what the Illuminati are ..or aren't....

YOU DECIDE!

I'm guessing that it works off whatever is 'most searched' and the most searched goes to the top of the list, if this is the case it wouldn't be google doing this, it would be because "what is the Illuminati" is the most searched 'what if question' by users.

The order of search results on Google's search-results pages is based, in part, on a priority rank called a "PageRank". Google Search provides many options for customized search, using Boolean operators such as: exclusion ("-xx"), alternatives ("xx OR yy"), and wildcard ("x * x").[5]

en.wikipedia.org...

Page Rank...

ageRank is a link analysis algorithm, named after Larry Page[1] and used by the Google Internet search engine, that assigns a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the World Wide Web, with the purpose of "measuring" its relative importance within the set. The algorithm may be applied to any collection of entities with reciprocal quotations and references. The numerical weight that it assigns to any given element E is referred to as the PageRank of E and denoted by PR(E).

The name "PageRank" is a trademark of Google, and the PageRank process has been patented (U.S. Patent 6,285,999). However, the patent is assigned to Stanford University and not to Google. Google has exclusive license rights on the patent from Stanford University. The university received 1.8 million shares of Google in exchange for use of the patent; the shares were sold in 2005 for $336 million.[2][3]

No conspiracy here, it's an link analysis algorithm that determines how links are ordered in a search using google.

I noticed that before. It means that the topic is not sub-culture, its pop-culture. Its not underground, its mainstream. Its not "only a few awakened ones see the truth", its every tom, dick and his hairy brother know about it.

Very interesting from a sociological point of view. And from a grammatical one: Shouldn't it be "what are the Illuminati"?

stop using google. it takes your search history and comes up with the best answer it thinks you should get. it is a search engine with your own special blinkers on. it only gives what it thinks you want.

use some other search engines. 'duckduckgo' is a good one .

just mix it up a little. STOP using google.

(BTW i tried it for you just to keep you happy and mine was 'What is the...... internet") My avoiding of it seems to be working.

Your answer: Yes.. people are typing that into google more than other keywords in 2012. See the totals in the tinyurl link.

How many other searches have you done for Illuminati? It doesn't show up on mine.
Google knows.

It is definitely what is trending right now on Google. I just tried the same search and it is now the second highest trending search on Google. I think more and more people are becoming interested in the notion of the "Illuminati" however I am still very skeptical about the existence of this so called doomsday society. Its funny that you bring this up however because I have seen videos and other articles on the internet about the Illuminati in the past, but recently, say the past 3 days my interest in this group has piqued again, when I haven't even had the slightest notion to do any research on the subject over the past year or so.

Remember the "web bot" project from a few years back that used a specific algorithm that when applied to the web search queries could apparently predict future events? While I feel that it was a load of bull my question is why has this search query become so popular recently and does anyone think that there is some "collective conscious" or triggers that make certain topics popular or trend at certain times?

Are you sure that it's not Google's ability to offer up your likely choices according to what they've been keeping tabs as being your taste from past searches?

Although, I can see how how Google would want to weed out open minded folk who have the potential to seek things outside of the box. Such people would be up for learning something new instead of have a programmed reaction that they want to be considered " normal" and don't have time for conspiracies but plenty of time to watch " American Pie" and listen to American IdiotNot caring, not seeking, not wanting to know that social engineering is going on but blissful to be the guinea pigs of the Mad-Scientist of Manipulation Psychology.

Anyway, If you look at this from the enemy's perspective (The Illuminati) Hey! If your going to be into this stuff, might as well be into it now, now, while they still have such websites accessible and open to you so they can put you on their special list of who is going to be a problem later.

LOL I have never searched for anything Illuminati but that did come up!! I am on my iPad right now, and haven't really used the Internet browser part of very much until now. That is interesting that illuminati would pop up for some but not others!

My number 1 was the cinnamon challenge. Didn't even know it was known outside of a random bet I had with someone 5 years ago. I never made a YouTube video of course....

Well, kind of. It may be quite popular but then for some of us it was "what is the cinnamon challenge". Not that it would really matter which one comes first.

Google shows different searches for people living in different places based on volume (trends).

You live in an area where that search is more popular, more than likely.

K judging how the "google is evil" post actually got stars for posting something stupid, I shall not post any more facts here besides that keyword research and understanding how google works is actually part of my job.

Oh and BTW, you get shown ads relevant to the websites you visit so your screen isn't cluttered with ads that will just make you angry instead. It's not perfect but its much better than seeing viagra advertising on your kids screen when he only plays World of Warcraft, eh?

Ah, I see now. I was using my google search bar, not the main website.
On that I get a single suggestion: "What is the term for mars geology"

On the website I too get illuminati. Now I've gone and done it.

AND switched IPs

so how would this info be relevant to my search history...

also i do not research the illuminati on this computer evvver (it's not mine I don't use it often enough - just printing) AND I wasn't signed into any other sites on different tabs.. since rebooting.. and it was a fresh browser session..

PS .. the auto complete here for "what ARE the" .. turned up "what are the seven deadly sins" heh
