Exactly as it has been stated before, Bill Maher is a comedian and has the right to say what he wants. He is opinion as well. Logical and snarky too if I might add. Rush vocally tries to represent the Republican Party and acts like the end all be all of the Right.

I think Rush Limbaugh is an idiot that needs to go breathe hot air up his own butt for awhile (forever), but the fat tub of vomit has the right to say what he wants. I don't like it so I avoid it. If you don't like Bill Maher, don't listen to him. At least he points out the obvious and is logical. I don't always agree with him, but I see him as an extreme version of Jon Stewart, because they are both COMEDIANS! They aren't trying to be anything more.

One word for Maher: Satire. It's been pointed out in several posts already. If you don't like his brand of comedy don't freaking listen to it. Political commentary is held to a much higher esteem and is something that SHOULD be taken with responsibility. Rush never has and never will do that. He should just sign up for the comedy band wagon too. Just admit that to himself and get it over with.

Of the approximately 114.8 million households in the US, roughly 28.3 million subscribe to HBO. That's almost 1 in every 4 US households.

That's quite a "club" wouldn't you say!!

Number US Households

Number HBO Subscribers

The point is, both of these guys don't know when to shut up. Rush is getting his due right now and with Maher, it's just a matter of time before he kills the goose that lays his golden egg.

If you ask my husband he would tell you he is a self hating closet gay man. (Bill, not my husband)

I tend to agree.

As I said on the page before: there is a difference between namecalling and slutshaming.
Maher calls Palin a #.
It's a mean word, yet there is no further context. It's me calling you a faggot. It's a shot in the dark. I have no way of knowing if anything of that will hit home.

Limbaugh: Fluke is a slut. She wants to have sex without having kids. Good girls don't do that.

Context does make a difference.
George Takei is gay.
Pat Robertson is gay.
Same word, but there is a difference...

The slut comment was because she said it costs her and other college students $3000 for birth control over 3 years...that is a ridiculous amount.

The prostitute remark was because she wants to have sex while other people pay for her birth control.

The reason God is brought into it is because your government put him there....they want to require religious institutions to include birth control in their insurance policies which is unconstitutional...

If you are using the term prostitute loosely..yes, but it's called gigilo (sp?)

I don't think insurance should pay for Viagara either...not being able to get it up is not a disease, just too bad . Having sex is not a right that should be funded by tax payers.

Fair enough.
Since 98% of women don't lie if a pollster asks them if they ever used birth controll (And I guess most people on here over 15 can confirm that), should it be covered by insurance?

For everyone saying "It is Comedy... It's on HBO... "

I tell you what. I will go ahead and start an HBO TV show reminiscent of Amos 'n' Andy. It will be racist, Black-faced humor with a decent amount of sexist slant thrown in. *I think that covers the ground of my point.. Now.. Read on please.*

It does not matter if it was a late night TV show or a Syndicated talk show host. Left or Right wing. Comedy or political statement. Hate speech IS hate speech in any public discourse. If a person says it was a joke and it was still hate style talk. To me it is just that, a hateful speech If a person calls another some foul names. Then apologizes about it and realizes he overstepped himself. That settles that.

To tell people to "finally kick this bum off the airwaves" really does seem weird to me considering that we have that whole 1st amendment speech thing being thrown around like a used tissue. Yet, I see the Left-wing constantly screaming to throw this person or that person off the airwaves. How about if it offends, don't listen to it? I mean many people say that to people all the time.

There is no good time or place anywhere on TV or radio. For talk of this kind. If the person is a private citizen or a public official. It seems more and more to me that this is truly what is wrong with America. It is not the division of left or right. It is the decay of the morals in just talking to people. I can be right-wing lunatic and say the wrong words at the wrong time and be called for a public lynching. Or I can be a left-wing idiot and say the exact same words to watch it skate right past everyone. It may seem perfectly OK for people on the left or the right. However to many of us in the center it is cock-eyed and divisive.

Put down the simple facts and what do you get. Set aside ideology. Set aside who/what was insulted. Look at the just simple facts. Would you want your Wife to be called what Rush called Flucks? No... *I mean... Unless she is an Ex at least...* Would you want your Wife to be called what Bill Maher has called Palin and Bachemann. *Again... Unless she is an Ex* What are you left with? You have people insulting your Wife. On my end I would not take that sitting still. I doubt any of you would either. *Unless it is your Ex, which case you are probably calling them much worse on a weekly basis*

For any who I offended at the start of this rant. I do apologize. It was simply the tool to get the point across that racism/sexism/any'ism that this country has deemed offendable is not acceptable in any way. Or at any time. Also, I am not right/left/center/socialist/blue/green/orange/other. I am an American. *Or in the Politically correct camp. A Scottish-Irish-German-English-Eat-my-waffles-with-a-fork-American*, and I hope that people are able to see that being polite does not mean we have to agree. Just that we maintain our own integrity to understand and stick to a moral standard on our disagreements.

Yes, but that's because healthcare is expensive. The pill doesn't cost more, depending in the amount of sex you have. Duh.

I know that ..duh is not necessary....she was talking about the cast of bc not the cost of insurance...the only way it could be that high is if they are including condoms with it.

No one is trying to prevent access to bc...I don't care what anyone does in their bedrooms...BUT

I shouldn't have to pay for it...and neither should religious institutes if it against their belief.

Could you specify what you mean by "regular basis?" Rush is a shock jock, he makes controversial statements every HOUR he is on the air and most of the time it doesn't elicit a media response.

People can say whatever they want to in the media for all I care. However, they can't expect to not generate emotional responses when in fact that is what a shock jock like Limbaugh is trying to do.

You make some good points.

But I have to add that Limbaugh's statements imply that ALL women who use birth control are sluts, he is very prominently identified with the GOP and he said this during a emotionally charged primary where similar sentiments are being expressed by one of the leading candidates and his supporters. And this on top of Komen and the Virginia ultrasound fiasco. Rush just picked a bad time to step in it.

Clearly, Bill gets off on debasing women. He has a long history of degrading Palin and insulting all women in the process.

Really? You believe that?
Sorry... taking shots at Plain is not taking shots at all women, I don't care if she is the Sweetheart of the Right-wing Rodeo.

First, you don't know why the cost was what she said it was... Right? Has she reached out to you and told you?

A few minutes of google and I found a patch that cost 700+ a year. She was talking about three years, so there's over 2K without breaking a sweat.

Now, if you're saying that someone can't generate an grand, over three years, in doctors visits etc., related to contraception? I'd say you're lying.

As for you not wanting to, well, I do want you to, so that's a stalemate huh?
