wow, that was fun.

now that I've eradicated all the childish garbage, let me say that the thread is about international women's day, whatever that is, and if you cannot have an adult discussion about the topic, do not bother posting.

thanks and carry on

Holy smoke! I pull up to this thread and find nothing but a bombed out pile of rubble. What the blank happened?

My guess is that IWD is designed to make life better for women around the world. Is there agreement on what better is? I know there are some people who firmly believe that a Muslim woman is nearly automatically in need of rescuing from her plight. Is this more politically and economically driven than anything else?

And once we find out what "better" is, is a day of marches the best way to do it? How about bringing that list of "better" to the UN? In countries where women are treated poorly, marching around in the streets doesn't seem to have a high probability of success.

It seems like, at best, it may be "community organizing" a la Barrack Obama. At worst, it may be a way for governments to identify trouble makers. But if I'm misinterpreting this let me know.

Is there an International Men's Day too?

After all, without us, the women wouldn't be here.

wow, that was fun.

lmao, tears even. Who would think that celebrating women the same ones that gave birth to the posters would cause such a ruckus. Women deserve to be celebrated, we are awesome, terrific, smart and evidently have better manners.

To add to the thread here is some more information I found.

2012 Theme: CONNECTING GIRLS, INSPIRING FUTURES

Each year around the world, International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8. Thousands of events occur not just on this day but throughout March to mark the economic, political and social achievements of women. Organisations, governments, charities and women's groups around the world choose different themes each year that reflect global and local gender issues. "Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures" is the 2012 theme of the internationalwomensday.com website and this has been widely used by hundreds of organisations including schools, universities, governments, women’s groups and the private sector. Each year the United Nations declares an overall International Women's Day theme. Their 2012 theme is “Empower Rural Women – End Hunger and Poverty”. Many organisations develop their own themes that are more relevant to their local contexts. For example, the EuTropean Parliament's 2012 theme is "Equal pay for work of equal value".
