Hands up if you were thinking that there was not much left for the goverment to
sell to the highest bidder well look like the police are up for sale too.

The contract is the largest on police privatisation so far, with a potential value of £1.5bn over seven years, rising to a possible £3.5bn depending on how many other forces get involved. This scale dwarfs the recent £200m contract between Lincolnshire police and G4S, under which half the force's civilian staff are to join the private security company, which will also build and run a police station for the first time.
Telegraph

Now i know your thinking that G4S (aka group 4) will only be back room staff doing the paper work
err not quite.

The list of policing activities up for grabs includes investigating crimes, detaining suspects, developing cases, responding to and investigating incidents, supporting victims and witnesses, managing high-risk individuals, patrolling neighbourhoods, managing intelligence, managing engagement with the public, as well as more traditional back-office functions, such as managing forensics, providing legal services, managing the vehicle fleet, finance and human resources.

Police Federation vice-chairman says privatisation could destroy service

Now is G4S going to be sub contracting to smaller companys who dont do back ground checks on they staff.
And will someone tell me whats the diffrence between private security and G4S patrolling the streets
as both will have no power of arrest and will have to call the real police anyway

Now if im a G4S shareholder do i get special handcuffs and lower fines if im arrested.

Yeah I read about this earlier, shocking isn't it?
Privatising the police force and probably prisons too..
G4S are alright, they are providing security for the olympics but if they are patroling the streets as police men, what good can come of it?

The security guard have less rights than PCSOs and lets face it, PCSOs are pretty pointless on their own aren't they?

The worst thing the government did this term was cut spending to the police, and now look at the situation.

Let me guess- the corporations will get lots of your tax dollars, and they more people they arrest the more they'll get paid? God I hope this doesn't happen in the states because that's what they would do.

I think this is just mental and potentially very dangerous. The only reason behind all this private schemes is to save money. That is hoe you find people on minimum wage helping out in schools or hospitals if companies pay very little the caliber of people applying for these jobs is not up to standard. Poorly trained people with low wages and low morale due to conditions don't make the best carers, teachers police or supermarket cashiers. The governments of this world try to save money subcontracting private companies to do the work for less, they well know that private companies have as their main interest profit for their shareholders, but our politicians don't care about that they have the best services that money can by while Joe public gets lower quality public services even though they are increasing our taxes constantly. They don't care about us we should not take their abuse any longer.

Yep its slightly concerning, I mean can you imagine! you call 999 and someone comes out and "oh that will be £150 please" example scenario,

You can just see it.. Call out fee's!

I just fear that this may lead to quite a bit of corruption,

Yup, take the control out of the hands of the people and the democratic process.
Several Houses burned down here in the states due to privatization of the Fire Dept.
The Firefighter made it to the scene and let the houses burn down due to unpaid
fees. This is just one negative issue of the entire proposal

Vital necessities like water, power and railroads(unless they are 110% privately funded at construction and maintenance) should not be privatized. It truly is sickening. The only way to protect our property(as the people=society/government in Republics and Democracies) is to demand that before any government asset is sold there be a 3/4ths vote referendum(requiring a 3/4ths vote to pass).

We saw a taste off this in New york with Occupy and the cops
The cops being paid by the bankers while all the liabilities remained to the tax payer

Also monsanto bought Blackwater I think it is just when it came out their contention gmo is safe got totally proven wrong

Not good

star and flag for sure because this IMHO is a key issue

I just read about this on the Guardian website and, shocked that I am, I can't really say I didn't see it coming.
I have worked in the private / corporate security business for half my working life (most of it corporate) and the signs were there to see years ago.
The idea that business models must be applied to such things as socialised healthcare and policing, with multiple layers of management (who often know sod all about the "business" they are working in) is ridiculous and just doesn't work. Putting these things into private "for profit" hands is a dangerous move. I fully expect the next move, to work hand-in-glove with the privatised police force, will be a privatisation of the prison service, along the lines of the US model. So we'll have private police, whose management and probably officers will be working on a prodcutivity bonus scheme, sending as many as possible into the new privatised prisons, where the inmates will in turn be made to work for pennies providing cheap labour to corporate customers.

We are all becoming, year by year, corporate assets, measured by our worth to profit creation and have little or no say in the schemes being created by our corporate sponsored / owned senior politicians.

Many senior police officers are already politicised and corrupt to the core, making a nice little earner on the side via ACPO, their private little club. Many are even business graduates rather than long-term police officers who worked their way through the ranks, so are already well placed to maximise their business credentials and become paid advisors (via ACPO) to the new privatised forces. Things are bad enough right now and things will only get a hell of a lot worse with this crazy idea.

So if policing is being privatised does that mean that the tax payers will pay less tax?
Rhetorical question. We all know the answer to that one.

Can you imagine private companies having access to/ control of the biggest DNA database that the U.K has?
That alone is scary.

Found this article today,

www.guardian.co.uk...

G4S chief predicts mass police privatisation

Unite, the union that represents many police staff, said the potential scale of private-sector involvement in policing was "a frightening prospect". Peter Allenson, national officer, said: "This is not the back office – we are talking about the privatisation of core parts of the police service right across the country, including crime investigation, forensics, 999 call-handling, custody and detention and a wide range of police services."

This is crazy! The prison Complex in the US is way way beyond unethical, And this in the U.K.! How could they be held to any standards.... Private companies are less accountable than government, who seems to be barely accountable as it is!

G4S - Government 4 Sale?

Anyway, G4S, they are an incredibly large security group. When i sign on at dole they often have about 5+ members of security just at the door, never mind the rest of the building. I wouldn't be surprised if they police did get privatised and they got a large piece of the pie.
Though i don't understand exactly how they'll be making money by policing the country? Unless they'll be skimming off the top

The tax payer money goes to these companies because it is seen as a more efficient way of spending tax payer money. So they make their money from cutting corners, working conditions, pensions, bureaucracy etc etc. At least I think that's pretty much how it works.
