After Rush Limbaugh called Sandra Fluke a "slut" and "prostitute" for testifying to Congress about the need for contraceptive health care coverage, the Georgetown law student became something of a lightning rod. Now President Obama has called to thank her. The President called Fluke on the phone just before her appearance on Andrea Mitchell Reports on MSNBC Friday, she told Mitchell, and offered words of support and an implicit rebuke of Limbaugh. This comes after Speaker John Boehner criticized the conservative radio host and at least one advertiser abandoned his show.

Fluke told Mitchell: [Obama] encouraged me and supported me and thanked me for speaking out about the concerns of American women, and what was really personal for me was that he said to tell my parents they should be really proud.

Obama was alluding to Limbaugh's trolling question, "Can you imagine if you're her parents how proud of Sandra Fluke you would be? Your daughter goes up to a congressional hearing conducted by the Botox-filled Nancy Pelosi and testifies she's having so much sex she can't afford her own birth control pills and she agrees that Obama should provide them, or the Pope."

news.yahoo.com...

Well he has lost one advertiser, and more are distancing themselves from him...deciding whether to continue doing ads for his show.

I don't listen to Limbaugh...but has he apologized? I'm wondering if he'll be able to dodge this whole thing like he has with other "questionable" statements he's made over the years.

He went way overboard on this one.

Why why why are people allowed to run their mouth as they do I'm all for free speech but to belittle someone like that is wrong, and who cares if she is a slut, limbo is a slut for expelling all that vitriolic drivel.

Why would anyone want to deny women birth control?

Bravo Obama...good for you. Maybe some conservatives can take some notes on how to make a statement on the issue while staying above the pettiness.

And this is the difference between liberals and conservatives.

Liberal view on women using contraception: It is their right to be able to plan their future with contraception, it is a medical issue and thus should be covered under health insurance.

Conservative view on women using contraception: They are whores and sluts who should keep their legs closed.

The same type of thinking goes for homosexuals, the poor, and immigrants.

Liberals on homosexuals: They are people too, government shouldn't rule who you should love. Their HUMAN rights should be protected.
Conservatives on homosexuals: Screw em, They are disgusting perverts and should be shamed into conforming to MY views.

Liberals on the poor: We should help people who have fallen on hard times.
Conservatives on the poor: Screw em, they are lazy idiots that just want to leech off of us.

Liberals on immigrants: We should be accepting to people who want to come here and make a better life for themselves, we should make it easier on them to come here legally.
Conservative on immigrants: Screw em...they look different, speak different, and act different than "true" Americans...we got here first...they can go back to where they came from.

I really think people who have voted Republican for decades may finally be waking up to the fact that they have been decieved to vote against their own, and fellow countrymens, interests.

He is usually way overboard. I am not into the apology thing..unless someone means it...and I know he would not apologize unless his ability to earn is threatened...and that apology would mean nothing.

A person convinced against their will..is of the same opinion still.

Enough with the fake apologies. They mean nothing to anyone except corporate sponsors and delusional people trying to keep their job.

Peace

Rush deserves every lump he takes for this one. He was outright wrong and I'd go so far as to say, downright inappropriate with his attitude. He's getting as bad as Michael Savage sometimes.

Oh and with his idiotic statement about what her parents might think? If this were my Daughter, I'd be proud as ever of her. I'd strongly disagree with what she spoke ABOUT....but any parent ought to be proud to see their child doing something like testifying before Congress. That alone is quite a deal..and she did it with class.

...even if I do disagree with all she said.

What the real consequences of this is...it is going to make people second guess on standing before Congress on ANY ISSUE....being afraid that they will be slandered.

Imagine being a private citizen and being absolutely trashed NATIONALLY by 20 million listeners?

If I were this woman's parents, i'd be damned proud of her.

While I don't think it's the governments position to be buying anyone birth control.. I don't see anything "immoral" or wrong about it.

Rush is an uneducated clown...and a hypocrite. Giving advice on "moral values" while travelling to the Dominican Republic with a ton of Viagra pills....and then calling women who use contraception "sluts". What a baffoon

You'd have to be a moron take anything he says seriously anymore...

While I don't agree with the manner in which he said it, I don't think contraception should be something thrown on the taxpayers. Why should I have to pay for it. I have been married for 10 yrs and we didn't have a kids until we were 5 yrs into it. We used condoms. We never used birth control, but even if we did, why the hell should I expect someone else to pay for it. I don't see birth control as health care. I see it as pregnancy prevention, not health care.

Yes, but if fewer women are using contraceptives, that equals more pregnancies and abortions. This will increase insurance costs for all of us far more than contraceptive use.

Let the brainwashing begin! Once again, the Left so blatantly points out why we should charge the government with fostering every aspect of our lives. Where are all the intellectuals?

Could someone post a transcript where Rush actually called Sandra a "slut" or "prostitute"?

Not defending Rush at all, really I can't stand him. I just see how this is being taken out of context and has been inflated beyond what it actually is. I want to see where he calls this lady the accused names. He doesn't come out and say "Sandra Fluke is a Slut" does he?

It's not being thrown onto the tax payers.

The misinformation campaign is working I see.

Telling insurance companies that they have to cover contraception has NOTHING to do with the tax payers.

Because their 2000 year old religion myth has been interpreted to imply that contraception is a sin and god will burn you in hell for having sex that is not intended to be for procreation. So instead of contraception you should not have sex unless you intend to have babies afterward because the all powerful, loving, intelligent creator of everything diety frowns on this behavior because he has nothing better to do with his time.

God created sex just so you would want to sin and possibly go to hell for having sex that he invented for us and made so crazy pleasurible that people can barely help themselves.

And don't forget that it's perfectly ok for the pentagon to lose over a trillion dollars and just sweep it under the rug.
Plus all the other shenanigans the government pulls.

Why? Because it's not all about you. I'm not insisting that my tax dollars don't pay to educate or care for your 5 children. Nope. I understand that an educated, healthy population is a good thing.

And birth control IS medically necessary for a number of health issues, not just about preventing pregnancy. The Pill treats irregular or absent menstrual periods, menstrual cramps, acne, PMS, endometriosis, and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, just to name a few.

So the right wingers want to make contraception not covered by insurance.
Fair enough
I assume they will then increase social programs drastically for all the unfit mothers that had to carry their kids and couldn't afford contraception on their own

I guess its good (ish) that the right wings are now pro-mega welfare programs.

I mean...surely they aren't trying to force people whom cannot afford and do not want kids to have kids but won't then spend their tax dollars to help raise em.

Surely..

I assume they are thinking things out logically...

Oh yeah and to quote George Carlin about this.
And he's right. They're anti-women.

Boy, these conservatives are really something, aren't they? They're all in favor of the unborn. They will do anything for the unborn. But once you're born, you're on your own. Pro-life conservatives are obsessed with the fetus from conception to nine months. After that, they don't want to know about you. They don't want to hear from you. No nothing. No neonatal care, no day care, no head start, no school lunch, no food stamps, no welfare, no nothing. If you're preborn, you're fine; if you're preschool, you're f'd. Conservatives don't give a # about you until you reach 'military age'. Then they think you are just fine. Just what they've been looking for. Conservatives want live babies so they can raise them to be dead soldiers. Pro-life... pro-life... These people aren't pro-life, they're killing doctors! What kind of pro-life is that? What, they'll do anything they can to save a fetus but if it grows up to be a doctor they just might have to kill it? They're not pro-life. You know what they are? They're anti-woman. Simple as it gets, anti-woman. They don't like them. They don't like women. They believe a woman's primary role is to function as a brood mare for the state. Pro-life... You don't see many of these white anti-abortion women volunteering to have any black fetuses transplanted into their uteruses, do you? No, you don't see them adopting a whole lot of crack babies, do you? No, that might be something Christ would do.
