No news from Sara?
I hope its because of lack of power and not something horrible. The news is so full of the damage and deaths.
Which leads to the question of why? Were there not sirens and shelters?
How have so many died? These kinds of fatalities are usually reserved for the unexpected or night time events.
As we know from Sarra's posts this storm was forecast way in advance.
I hope I'm not sounding heartless, just slightly confused.

As a Brit, I wonder why US tornadoes kill people every year?
I mean, isn't there some kind of early warning system in place?
When one is seen approaching a town, can't a lookout crank up a siren to warn everybody to get into their cellars?
Or are tornadoes impossible to guard against?

There are many reasons, not all houses have basements, tornadoes can be a major force of nature destroying houses as if they are made of balsa wood so sometimes even going into basement won't protect your, and while there are early warning systems sometimes the expected weather signs those monitoring for severe weather expect to see indicating an emergency just aren't there until it;ls too late.

In 1990 an F5 tornado ripped through Plainfield, Chest Hill and Joliet Illinois, it formed so fast the that that the sirens went off after it's initial hit, once it hit the ground it tore a swath through all 3 towns, and finally lost steam after it destroyed the majority of my neighborhood. 26 people were killed. Anyway that's my experience with them

Okay, so it seems the only surefire way to survive tornadoes is to go live in a state that doesn't have them.
