just like every other title on ATS... really getting old.

NASA's word, not mine guys... no hyperbole at all in the title. Take it up with NASA if you have a problem.

Scientists have discovered gigantic structures 25,000 light-years tall ballooning above and below the Milky Way.

I assume your saying a ballon doesn't have structure by putting that part of the quote in yellow?

That's obviously not true.. and totally off topic:
Structure of a balloon.

struc·ture   [struhk-cher] Show IPA noun, verb, -tured, -tur·ing.
noun
1.
mode of building, construction, or organization; arrangement of parts, elements, or constituents: a pyramidal structure.
2.
something built or constructed, as a building, bridge, or dam.
3.
a complex system considered from the point of view of the whole rather than of any single part: the structure of modern science.
4.
anything composed of parts arranged together in some way; an organization.
5.
the relationship or organization of the component parts of a work of art or literature: the structure of a poem.

Dictionary

Definitions 3, and 4 are the type of structure being referred to by NASA.

NASA uses it well - and the thread title is a quote from NASA as I showed.

Hope that answers your question, if your not out right trolling; if so I'll just ignore any further posts.

Very beautiful rendering, and very interesting information too!

BTW - out of curiosity: why is this thread in Fragile Earth and not Space Exploration?

How did they take that picture?
I'm sure we dont have anything outside our own solar system.
Is this just an artist impression

Makes you wonder if we're making an age old mistake, the galaxy isn't flat. It's just our point of view. Watch they will figure out that light bends and redo the map soon.

Answered in the quote in my OP and the video too

these unexpected features were brought into sharp relief by a group of scientists who processed data from Fermi's all-sky map. The visualization below shows how artists imagine the lobes would appear if gamma rays were visible to the naked eye.

I know the picture's just so pretty it's hard to read the text

I made a simple broad statement, which just so happens to be undeniably true. I wasn't pointing any fingers. I didn't mention any problem. There was no reason for you to get defensive about it.

2012 Equation Solved - Part 1/8

Though the time could be the 100 years scientists have speculated on, instead of 2012, nonetheless, this is what this whole presentation is about.

It relates to ice core samples and La Violettes Superwave theory as well.

Humanity is beautiful too:

Be the change you wish to see - Ghandi

Don't give up.

Let such beauty as is displayed in this thread refresh your heart with childlike wonder and love.

Yes, people can be full of darkness and evil, but so can they be full of love, and light.

ATS can overwhelm - it exposes the ugliness of the world... but let threads like this show the beauty also.

And know there is balance in all things.
