Human kind has made many improvements when it comes to science and technology, but human kind as people, have not improved much at all. I didn't live back then but weren't there villages where people helped eachother out within the community and everyone did what they could for the whole? Nowadays you can see a homeless person on the street, obviously in need, and watch them all day...how many people offer help? How many people even care a little?

I'll take it even further, since this is in the religion section. What about these huge churches that people go to, and pour money into? Is there space in there opened up for people in need? Once in a while maybe there is a 'feed the hungry' event but other than that, the multi-million dollar building is hardly used to its full potential. People will come to worship during the pre determined times and then go about their lives, and most likely walk right past the person on the street thinking 'its ok, i just gave the church money.' Anyway...like I said, as for being such a smart species it seems we are going forward with technology and backward with basic human needs.

not quite right, its more a point of view. if you look at statistics from all around the world, you could see that human kind is doing better than ever. for example, humans live longer and more healthy than a 100 years ago. a hundred years ago 15 % of new born died, today its 3 %, etc. thats is just circa numbers to show the tendency.

The entire 'be good because you are being watched always and you could go to hell' theory has worked well over the years as a scare tactic. People often will second guess things just because of their beliefs, and they go along with what is the 'right' decision not because that's what they really want to do, they do it because they want the 'gift' at the end, and fear being sent to a lake of fire for all eternity by the God that loves everyone so much.

1 John 4:13-18:

"This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love."

"The one who fears is not made perfect in love". Bam. There it is. Do you think God is looking for terrified religious nuts to enter Heaven, or little Jesuses?

Children do not just obey their parents because they're afraid of a stocking of coal at the end of the year though. At the end of the day, it seems most kids who choose to obey their parents do so simply to make them happy. I would agree with you that some people only choose to be Christians because they fear hell. Belief only becomes behavior when you allow God to do work in you. When we learn what does and doesn't make Him happy in our own lives, not just from inferring it out of the book. So I would say the obedience - which is never perfect - should come out of love, not fear.

OP, take into consideration what came first, God. God physically and historically came first. Figures like "Santa" were created to control and produce expectations of a society or demographic. The civilizations were created through the socio-political laws given to unto them by God or his servents. In those days, God proved himself countless times, he caused the destruction of entire armies, he was a pillar of fire in the night sky. Do you really think years of model behavior and production are the result of the ingenuity of one or more men?

Actually, cancer is more of a dietary and lifestyle cause. And Tesla was a great man, but his inventions would only have effect on the area immediately above or surrounding it. The "smog" that you're describing would just be like inhaling a large amount of negative ions, which would have the effect of being on drugs. We're exposed to much more EMR on a daily basis

Actually, Jesus is Santa and Santa is God for us, yes. It's true!

Check out my thread

Why did the Pope dress up as Santa?

You'll see.
