Well, I caved and joined ATS. I did it so I could subscribe to threads I find interesting. Maybe I'll want to take part in a discussion at some point as well. I won't really care about getting up to twenty posts so I can start my own threads, as it seems all topics are already covered.
Ultimately, I have concluded that the illiteracy rate (approx. 99%) of ATS users is actually in direct proportion to that of the rest of the population and therefore does not reflect poorly on those of us interested in these topics. In fact, I believe this is true of all negative aspects of the behavior of this online community as a whole.
Above Top Secret is a silly name, the slogan "deny ignorance" makes no sense whatsoever, the ban on profanity is more offensive to me than profanity is to anyone, and the ban on mentioning illegal drugs is questionable (though I can see the intention, in a way I find quite humorous), but I cannot deny my fascination with many of the subjects I've seen discussed on here, so whatever. I can deal.
I suppose what pushed me over the edge and made me join was this: Three of my friends saw UFO's in the last twenty-four hours. They all reported it on Facebook. All these posts disappeared. Granted, Facebook was on the glitchy side today anyway, but at the moment, something about this strikes many of us as odd. It's only fair to point out that, given the rise of technology and government secrecy, it would be strange if there were NOT more UFO sightings than ever before, but I've never used that abbreviation to imply anything other than its literal meaning anyway, so I feel that there clearly is something to this. I don't know if it really has to do with extraterrestrials, or extradimensionals (probably at least one, though), or anything... I don't know much of anything, really. Why have so many people reported seeing the "greys", describing them the same way? Why has every culture in history had legends of reptile people whose description matches the one people on Earth will give you to this day? I could go on for hours with rhetorical questions, but I already lost track of what my point was. I think it was "hello"... hey, what's up.

Are you serious? You really feel like you rights are being infringed upon because you are prohibited from verbally abusing another ATS member.

I feel like i am living in the twilight zone here !!

Haha... Man, I hope I'm not getting in fights already - I've barely been here ten minutes! No, that's not how I feel; I feel that swearing, in itself, is not verbally abusive. That's all. Like I said, though, I can deal.

Hi there. Managing a site this large with this many members can be quite the task. But because so many here "get it" and like the idea of having a safe place to discuss almost any topic (we do not allow any discussion of drugs at all), we also all try our best to govern ourselves to keep it a civil forum (profanity and fellow member abuse, name-calling and trolling are forbidden) .

Please review the following.

Welcome hallucipede

For now you can reply to any thread in any member forum you wish. Once you have achieved 20 post replies, you will then be able to start your own threads in the appropriate forums and additionally send & receive messages to and from fellow ATS members.

You are able to send & receive (PM's) Private Messages to Staff only for now (after the 20 reply-post minimum, you'll have full access to any member).

To save yourself a lot of searching and even possible future heartache and frustration, please review the below....

We encourage everyone to please contribute to existing threads rather than start a new one. This will also help guarantee that your thread won't end up as a duplicate located elsewhere. The ATS Search feature is your friend!

AboveTopSecret is much like a theme park with many, many rides, so with that said...
Here's a few thoughts before getting onto any one of the 1000's of topical rides at Above Top Secret, also known as ATS, the world's largest Civil & Unique Discussion Community.

* Please check out those links posted above before getting on one of the rides. This will save you a lot of future stress, frustration and possible action by one of your friendly neighborhood Mods!

* Please be sure to act like an 'civil' adult and are at least this tall to get on any of the rides, (Johnny stretches his arm outward).

* Please remember that some members are very passionate and vocal depending on what ride your all on. You should be mentally fit, stable and have a strong stomach for theories, conjecture, research and evidence presented that may be contrary to your own.

* Please be "open-minded" enough to understand that sometimes the ride isn't always what you might expect. Be aware you also might end up learning something new and 'out-of-the-box' before you get off the ride.

* Please note that at times the ride gets overly-heated and "it's strongly suggested" to get off the ride to regroup one's thoughts before continuing. This will also help guarantee that the ride will move forward without getting derailed or explode into a fiery trashbin.

* Please have fun! But be aware that if you act in an uncivil-like manner, use profanity, intentially spread a hoax and/or get verbally abusive, you will be removed off the ride by a Moderator. This is not only for your safety, but also for those both young and old on the ride with you.

So buckle up, keep your arms within the ride's comfort zone, have fun and "Deny Ignorance"...!
