As a member of society we all benefit at some level from services that are provided to us or others around us.

I believe that the framers of the constituion started with some basic things that should be provided by the central government. (Ideas like National Defense, the ability to coin money, to provide mail service, etc)

So here goes what should be publicly funded and what should be privately run?

Currency creation - Public or Private?
Miltary - Public or Private?
Nuclear waste dumps - Public or Private?
Drinking water delivery - Public or Private?
Nationwide transportation - Public or Private?
Energy research, production and development - Public or Private?
Air traffic control - Public or Private?
Space exploration - Public or Private?
Religious indoctrination - Public or Private?
Education and innovation - Public or Private?
Electing leaders - Public or Private?
Food production and delivery - Public or Private?
Cheap bauble and widget production (i.e. Slinkies, PS2, Barbie dolls, etc) - Public or Private?
Pornography, game shows, nightly news and other entertainment - Public or Private?
Healthcare (Broken bones, cancer, highly infectious diseases, etc) - Public or Private?
Pollution controls - Public or Private?
Terrorists containment and domestic spying - Public or Private?
etc

I'm sure there's more, many more areas that I am just not thinking of right now

Dear ImpartialObserver,

It all depends. If you put something in the hands of private industry then their job is to find a profit and if you put it in the hands of government, it tends to be slow to change. Both have a time and place. If the job itself naturally lends itself towards profit making in a competitive market (as opposed to a monopoly) then it should probably be privately run.

Private. All of them.
Second line.
