Jesse Jackson:" It's an honor to be food stamp president".

“It’s an honor to be a food-stamp president. Food stamps feed the hungry. Food stamps feed the children. Food stamps help the farmer,” the civil rights leader declared. “Food stamps help the truck driver. Food stamps help the warehouse. Food stamps help the store. Food stamps hire people and feed people. Food stamps save people from starvation and malnutrition."

Newt Gingrich called Obama the “food-stamp president,” .
It was supposed to be an insult to the way Obama is handling the economy.
It was supposed to be a slam that so many more people need food stamps now.
But Jesse Jackson says that it is not insulting to say that, but he thinks it is an honor.

Forbes

Democrats and liberals have become defensive and cranky over Newt Gingrich’s charge “that more people have been put on food stamps by Barack Obama than any president in American history.” But why are they so offended? Under President Obama more people are on Medicaid, another welfare program, than under any other president. And an estimated 16 million more will be added beginning in 2014—and Democrats boast about that.

So what say YOU ATS? Is it an honor to be able to say that you are helping more people with entitlements? Or is it a slam because so many more people actually need the help then when you first took office? Newt vs Jesse. Who is correct? Or is it a little of both?

To the people who actually NEED them i say that it is an honor to help them.

If a majority did NOT need them then i would be disgusted that i am helping people abuse the system

The problem is why most people who need them need them. It's nothing to be proud of.

When there's less of us paying taxes to support the entitlement programs...tilting our social economy to the majority of us requiring food stamps,.....What happens then. Hope Obama has a big dining room table......

Being known as someone who helps the poor ... that's good.
Being known as someone who caused there to be more people who need help .. that's bad.
Maybe "they" are trying to make more poor people so more will be dependent upon the government.
More people dependent upon the government means more control over the people.
