I can't even fathom the magnitude of the effect intervening in Syria would have, it's just saddening. Millions of innocent people are going to lose their lives. Yeah, it really is clear, the amount of "outright" lies that go so far beyond anykind of reasonable "journalistic editing" done with bias or spin, that it's beyond belief. What I always wonder is how do the on "scene" journalists feel or react to the stories they help cover? Do they come home from Libya after witnessing and experiencing this first hand believing they covered the real story? Did they meet and talk to the people? Were they held up in a hotel with a script to read, with "manufactured" chaos surrounding them? Were they even there?

I think instead of "The real housewifes of "wherever" " a much more interesting story would be " The real Journalists that covered Libya"

I was wondering the same thing. That's the first thing i did as well. The source says nothing about any genocide by NATO or anyone. It mentions rival tribal fighting that the MSM has mentioned recently as well.

It's amazing how members on here decry "the sheeple" constantly. Yet someone makes a post that has nothing to do with the source they cite and people follow that poster's comments blindly because it conforms to their own opinion or agenda.

On 12 and 13 February, 17 people were killed and 22 wounded in tribal fighting between the Tobu and Zuwayya tribes in Kufra. Nine were from the Zuwayya and eight were from the Tobu. Initially, only small-arms fire was used in the clashes when they started, but on the second day the situation escalated with RPGs and anti-aircraft guns being used. According to the Zuwayya, the fighting started when a young man from their tribe was killed three days before by three Tobu members. A head of the local NTC militia reported that the Zuwayya man was a smuggler and was killed after he opened fire on a Tobu militia, which was charged with combating illegal trafficking, killing five of the militiamen.[5] The Tobu, on their part, stated that they were being attacked by the Zuwayya, who were supported by the NTC, with the intention of exterminating them. The Tobu claimed discrimination by the Zuwayya, due to them being dark-skinned, on an even higher level than during the Gaddafi-era.[6] Farhat Abdel Karim Bu Hareg, the coordinator of social affairs in the local Kufra governement said that they will have to declare independance of the region if the NTC does not act against attacks by mercenaries, referring to Tobu fighters.[1]

On 14 February, clashes continued around Kufra, with the NTC sending reinforcement to help the Zuwayya tribe. Tobu spokesman said that they were besieged and were being heavily shelled by the Zuwayya, and added that it was an attempt to exterminate the Tobu tribe with government participation. An NTC spokesman stated that it was a low-level fight between revolutionaries and weapons smugglers backed by foreign elements. A Tobu member claimed five of his comrades were killed in the new round of fighting, while another stated that there were no deaths, only injuries.[8] The fighting continued, and on 15 and 16 February, another 15 Zuwayya were killed and 45 wounded. The Tobu reported that since the started of the clashes 55 of their members had been killed and 117 wounded, with the wounded not being able to be evacuated via the airport due to it being controlled by the Zuwayya.[9]

On 18 February, more clashes in Kufra left another two people dead. At this point, it was reported that the military sent reinforcements to the region, in an attempt to stop the tribal fighting.[10]

On 21 February, a Red crescent worker reported that 50 civilians were killed in the past 24 hours in Kufra due to mortar and rockets being fired on residential area.[4] A spokeman of the Zuwayya tribe said that three people were killed and 25 injured.[11]

The leader of the Tobu tribe Issa Abdelmajid, stated that 113 Tobu were killed (including six children) and 241 wounded in 10 days of fighting. For their part, the Zuwayya said 23 of their tribesmen were killed and 53 wounded.[12][2]

On 22 February, four people were killed and 10 injured in renewed fighting.[13] NTC leader Abdul Jalil said that Gaddafi loyalists were seeding sedition in Kufra but did not elaborate.[14]

On 23 February, the Libyan National Army was dispatched to Kufra to enforce the peace. Army commandos have taken control of airport, city and whole region according to Zuwayya tribial sources inside the city and both tribes used the renewed peace for evacuation of wounded to Tripoli.[15]

On 24 February, fighting resumed in Kufra, injuring several people, according to both tribes which each claimed that the other were responsible for the renewed fighting. A security official from the Zuwayya tribe said that the army had not done anything.[7] ICRC medic confirmed that fighting de-escalated but situation remained tense. ICRC also evacuated 28 wounded patients from both tribes to Tripoli hospital.[16]

On 25 February, United Nations team started providing relief supplies. Georg Charpentier, an UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Libya and chief of UNSMIL mission, confirmed that a ceasefire between the tribes was holding with the Libyan army contingent in place to prevent further clashes.[17] NTC chairman Jalil urged both tribes to make peace. [18]

(Reuters) - Ousted Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's spokesman said on Thursday that NATO air strikes and shelling of Sirte by interim government forces on Wednesday and Thursday had killed 151 people.

Spokesman Moussa Ibrahim, in a satellite phone call to Reuters in Tunis, also said the city's main hospital had run out of medical supplies and power.

His claims could not immediately be verified as Sirte, Gaddafi's hometown, is largely cut off from communication and is besieged on three fronts by ruling National Transitional Council (NTC) forces.

A NATO official told Reuters that it had attacked Sirte over the last 48 hours, but that the most significant target was a Gaddafi command center.

"The compound was clearly a military target since (Gaddafi) forces were using it to coordinate and support operations against civilians," the official said.

At the time of that strike, NATO had no indication there were any civilians in the area and Ibrahim's claims of civilian deaths were "unsubstantiated," he said.

"Between yesterday and this morning, 151 civilians were killed inside their homes as the Grad rockets and other explosives fell upon their heads," Ibrahim said.

"The city hospital stopped functioning altogether last night. Patients died simply because nothing can be done to help them."

A familiar figure in Tripoli while Gaddafi was in power, Ibrahim spoke on Thursday from an undisclosed location.

He made similar claims last week when he said that NATO raids on Sirte had hit a residential building and a hotel, killing 354 people.

A spokesman at the time said NATO was aware of the allegations but that such claims were often unfounded.

Sirte is one of only two major towns still under the control of pro-Gaddafi forces after the NTC took over most of another stronghold, Sabha, on Wednesday.

Ibrahim called on the United Nations, the European Union, the Arab League, foreign media and rights groups to try to get into the center of Sirte.

"We hold them directly responsible to expose the crimes committed against a whole city with the vigor and energy they had when they believed they were helping the cities of Misrata and Zawiyah from Libyan armed forces," he said, referring to a devastating Gaddafi bombardment of those cities during the war.

NATO says its air strikes in Libya since March have not killed large numbers of civilians.

Ibrahim also attacked the raising of Libya's new flag at the United Nations on Tuesday.

"Look at Palestine -- more than 60 years legitimate struggle for a state and still nobody wants to hear the case of the Palestinian people to have a seat at the U.N.," Ibrahim said.

"Yet some armed gangs, supported by NATO, get their flag raised at the U.N. before they're in even in control of the whole country. The Libyan people didn't vote for that flag. It's all through violence and rockets and bombs."

Moammar Gadhafi was one of the most righteous and valiant men I've ever read about. He was killed for trying to do the right thing, in the best interest of his country.

In January, Michel Chossudovsky reported British media confirming UK/CIA/MI6 operatives in Syria training anti-Assad Western-backed insurgents. They're also supplying them with arms, ammunition, and equipment.

"These reports confirm unequivocally (they're illegally) interfer(ing) in the affairs of a sovereign state. This is not a popular uprising. The insurrection as well as the killings of civilians were sponsored by the Western powers from the outset."

In February 2011, US/UK/French special forces and intelligence operatives actively began helping anti-Gaddafi NATO-backed militants. An armed insurgency followed, including bombing weeks later.

A year later, BBC confirmed it, saying:

"....British special forces were deployed on the ground in order to help the UK'S allies - the Libyan 'revolutionaries' often called the National Transitional Council or NTC."

Knowledgeable sources said "they did a tremendous job" conquering Libya. "The existence of E Squadron is well known within the special forces community but has not hitherto been discussed publicly. It was formed five years ago to work closely with the intelligence service MI6, and is mainly involved in missions where maximum discretion is required, say Whitehall insiders."

"It is understood that just under 250 UK special forces soldiers have been in Libya since before the launch of air strikes to enforce the no-fly zone against Gaddafi's forces."

Another hundred or more were on standby. They were comprised of Special Forces Support Group (SFSG) paratroupers drawn from the SAS (Special Air Service) and SBS (Special Boat Service). They were resupplied from Cyprus. Moreover, 800 Royal Marines were "on five days notice" to deploy to the Mediterranean.

Last March, six squadron members were caught red-handed. Dropped in by helicopter, they were dressed in black, well-armed with weapons, explosives, maps and false passports. Britain claimed they arrived to protect diplomats and monitor events in Benghazi, not military operations.

An official Ministry of Defense statement said, "We neither confirm nor deny the story and we do not comment on the special forces."

The Libyan model's being replicated in Syria, so far short of bombing. Expect it if current tactics don't achieve regime change.
