You know you found it before 6 am? Sounds like a nice Sunday breakfast to me.

Like one of those funny dishes the French used to eat? Drown the little bird in fragrant wine, then bake him whole, and then put a tea towel over your head and crouch over the table, stuff the entire little bird in your mouth and slowly suck the juices out, crunching slowly the now soft bones and savouring the flavours of his guts??

I just ate a chilli and everything tastes like agony. I don't think I want to think about this anymore that truely is f%*(ED UP!!!! but than you say french? lol who knows it is probably real nice.

The bird is captured alive, blinded and/or kept in a darkened cage to disrupt their feeding habits, then force-fed oats and millet to make it swell up to ridiculous proportions. After this measure of cruelty, the bird is then drowned in brandy and subsequently roasted. Then comes the eating.

The consumption of an ortolan is nearly ritualistic in nature, as the diner is required to place a napkin over their faces (so as to keep in the luxurious aroma of the cooked bird, but probably also to hide their crime from God). They would then place the entire bird inside their mouth, with only the beak or part of the head (unless the head has been removed prior to serving) protruding, which is then removed with a bite.

With headless bird in mouth, the diner now chews the tiny corpse for minutes on end, all the while savoring the multitude of flavors that wash over the tongue. Delightful.

I saw it on a doco years ago, but yeah, pretty funky way to have dinner lol.. o.O

should i just leave it die? or try and save it ? i think its chances of survival are pretty low, what have you done when been in this situation?

I hope the little thing is still alive,I have been in a similar situation with a very young baby crow and the most important thing to do is keep the little one hydrated, you can make up a simple energy and mineral giving solution by boiling up one litre of water and adding a Tablespoon of sugar(15-20ml) and a teaspoon of salt(5ml).remembering to let the solution cool down to room temperature before feeding the mouse with it.

I hope that you have success in keeping the mouse alive, and there are always wildlife rescue centres that you can contact for help.

When ever you found a helpless creature especially if its a baby
you should help him . keep it warm try to feed it
just do you best .. no one should be left to death .. not even a baby mouse

no mother around ??? first thing to do never touch a baby mouse
or the mother will not take it anymore

Just think .. you would like to have a good positive memorie about what you did
or a bad one that will hunt your soul down to eternity

I still have a bad memorie when i was young
made bad judgment call .. i still ask forgiveness to God to this day
it was a snake that i throwed a rock on it
i wounded it .. i still ask .. WTH was i thinking doing that
i learned from mistake not ever to repeat it again
it brings bad karma doing bad stuff or doing nothing to help a helpless creature

hey sorry for the late reply i thought i posted what happened on here....guess my internet or ATS didnt work.
the poor thing ended up dying....although
it was my fault. when i changed the rags after a couple of days (it was getting to health) i was putting the heating pad in down the side of the cup and baby rolled down the gap and i squashed it with the heating pad............ it wasnt really hard, but it was enough. it was still alive for a couple hours before dying.....i honestly felt terrible. that was over 3 months ago now, poor little fella im so sorry
